The Rise of the Youth in the War of Resistance

Chapter 20: Parting, who will meet first?

When He's mother heard that what Wang Shi described was exactly the same as what Zhao Shao described, she felt an indescribable excitement in her heart. The excitement was like a surging tide, almost drowning her.

Her heart was beating so hard it seemed like it was going to burst through her chest.

She held Wang Shi's hands tightly, the joints turning white from the force. Tears glistened in her eyes, and her voice trembled like a leaf in the wind.

"Yes, yes, that's him!

where is he?

Where are my children? "

Wang Shi deeply felt He's mother's anxious mood, which was like a raging fire. That anxiety seemed to turn into a tangible heat wave that hit him in the face.

But he also knew that now was not the best time to tell the whole truth.

He gently patted Mother He's trembling hands, as if soothing a frightened bird, and said softly:

"Auntie, don't worry.

I will tell you everything slowly."

Upon hearing this, He's mother nodded vigorously, trying hard to control her almost out-of-control emotions.

She took a deep breath, and the breath was trembling, as if it was tightly grasped by fear and anticipation.

Then he said slowly:

“Okay, I’m not in a hurry.

But please tell me, where is my child now?"

Her eyes were fixed on Wang Shi, full of pleading and desire.

Wang Shi looked at He's mother with a firm and gentle look, like the warm sunshine in spring.

He said softly:

"Auntie, don't worry, your child is safe now.

However, some things take time to explain. I hope you can trust me and give me some time. ”

His voice was steady and powerful, trying to convey a sense of reassurance to He's mother.

He's mother gritted her teeth, the muscles on her face trembled slightly, and nodded in agreement.

Although she was extremely anxious and her heart felt like it was being eaten by millions of ants, she also understood that things might not be simple and she needed to wait patiently.

Wang Shi then began to recount his encounter with Zhao Shao and the adventures they had shared. His eyes, sometimes deep, sometimes bright, brought every detail to life, making He's mother feel as if she were there herself.

As the story unfolded, He's mother's expression sometimes became so tense that her brows knitted together, with beads of sweat oozing from her forehead;

Sometimes his eyes would light up with surprise, and the corners of his mouth would unconsciously rise;

Sometimes she was so sad that tears welled up in her eyes and her lips trembled slightly.

She was immersed in Wang Shi's narration, feeling everything her son had experienced, and her heart also fluctuated.

When Wang Shi finished speaking, he stopped and looked at He's mother quietly.

At this moment, the air around seemed to have frozen, with only the sound of He's mother's rapid breathing.

He's mother's tears welled up in her eyes again uncontrollably, and she asked in a trembling voice:

"So...how is my child now?"

That voice was filled with endless concern and worry.

Wang Shi held Mother He's hands, which conveyed warmth and comfort, and replied with a smile: "

Auntie, your child has grown up and become strong, brave and responsible.

He has been trying to find his way home to see you."

Tears streamed down He's mother's cheeks like beads that had broken off a string. She said excitedly:

"really?

Very good!

Thank you, Xiao Wang."

Her voice was filled with joy and gratitude.

Wang Shi shook his head, with a trace of guilt on his face, and said:

"Don't thank me, I owe you this. If I hadn't caught him and sent him to the army, none of this would have happened."

"I believe that you will be reunited with your child soon."

At this time, a breeze blew gently, bringing a hint of coolness, but it could not blow away the expectations in He's mother's heart.

He's mother nodded vigorously, her eyes full of expectation and hope, the light seemed to be able to penetrate the darkness.

"By the way, you look like you're going to town?"

Wang Shi looked at He's mother and asked curiously.

He noticed that she was carrying a package that seemed heavy and bent her back.

Mother He nodded and replied:

"Yes, when Shao'er returns home and finds out I'm not here, he might go to town to look for me..."

There was a hint of worry in her voice and her brows furrowed unconsciously, worried that her son wouldn't be able to find her.

Wang Shi understood her concerns and comforted her:

"Don't worry, maybe the fever hasn't reached home yet."

He tried to reassure Mother He with a gentle smile on his face.

He's mother sighed and said helplessly:

"Yes, but he is still a child after all, and sometimes he can be a little naughty."

Her eyes were full of love and tolerance.

Wang Shi smiled and suggested:

"That's great, I'm going to town too, why don't we go together.

I have a companion on the road and can chat with him."

He's mother readily agreed to the suggestion, and they set out for the town together.

Along the way, they talked about various topics, including family, life and village affairs.

He's mother thanked Wang Shi for accompanying her on this journey and said that without his company, she might feel lonely and scared.

Wang Shi smiled and said:

"It's okay. I have to go to town to do some business anyway. It's just on my way."

In this way, they walked and chatted, and time passed quickly.

It was already noon when they arrived in town.

The sun was high in the sky, and the scorching rays were baking the earth.

After saying goodbye to Wang Shi, He's mother hurried to look for Zhao Shao.

Wang Shi continued to his destination - the teahouse.

Wang Shi gently pushed open the somewhat old door of the teahouse, and the noisy sounds inside instantly came into his ears.

But he remained unmoved, his expression calm, and he walked straight to the corner, found a quiet place and sat down.

He ordered a cup of tea, quietly savoring the aroma while silently thinking about his next plan of action.

His brows were slightly furrowed, and his eyes were thoughtful.

Just then, there was a sound of hurried footsteps at the door, followed by a familiar figure walking in.

The man shouted:

"Waiter, bring me a pot of tea!"

While casually glancing around, when he saw Wang Shi sitting in a corner of the house, a look of confusion and surprise appeared on his face.

Just as he was about to ask, Wang Shi stood up and walked quickly to him.

Wang Shi's eyes were firm and serious. He stared at the other person and said:

"Are you looking for your mother?"

His voice was not loud, but it carried an unquestionable power.

Zhao Shao was stunned for a moment. His eyes widened in disbelief, and he asked curiously:

"how do you know?"

Wang Shi did not answer his question directly, but simply replied:

"Because your mother is looking for you too."

His expression was serious, as if he was hiding many secrets.

After saying that, he pulled up Zhao Shao's clothes without saying anything else, turned around and walked out.

The waiter behind saw the man leave and hurriedly called out:

"Sir, you haven't paid yet?"

After hearing this, Wang Shi stopped and turned to look at the waiter.

His eyes were calm as water, and then he took out a few copper coins from his pocket and threw them over.

The waiter took it with a smile and replied:

"Have a safe journey, sir."

Zhao Shao and Wang Shi continued to walk forward, but Zhao Shao suddenly exerted force and stopped, his face full of confusion, and asked:

"Where are you taking me?"

Wang Shi looked at Zhao Shao's reaction strangely. He turned around and replied with a hint of anger:

“Isn’t this nonsense!

Of course, I'm going to find your mother."

His voice rose a little with anger.

"To be honest, I really owe you. I see you doing that kind of shit everywhere," Wang Shi complained, seeming dissatisfied with what happened this time.

His brows were tightly knitted together, and his face was full of helplessness.

When Zhao Shao saw the other party getting angry, he felt a little panicked. What if the other party didn't take him to see He's mother?

He knew that his attitude just now was indeed a bit excessive, so he quickly adjusted his tone and whispered comfortingly:

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you angry.

Actually, I just wanted to express my concern and care for my mother, but my choice of words may have caused you to misunderstand.

Please believe that I have no ill intentions.”

His eyes were full of sincerity and apology.

After saying this, Wang Shi also understood the importance of his mother to Zhao Shao, and patted her shoulder gently to express his understanding and support.

Then he added:

"I know that finding your mother is very important to you, but now you'd better just follow me obediently, because I know your mother's whereabouts."

Zhao Shao really followed Wang Shi obediently. After a while, they arrived at the place where Wang Shi and He's mother separated - a small bridge.

Zhao Shao looked around and asked anxiously:

"Where's my mother?"

"I'm probably going to look for you. Okay, I'll go with you, okay?"

Wang Shi said helplessly.

Zhao Shao finally let go of the hand that was grabbing Wang Shi's clothes.

"I hope you can find it, otherwise you know the consequences of deceiving me",

There was a glint of ruthlessness in his eyes.

He searched along the river bank, shouting loudly and asking everywhere.

The wind was blowing, ruffling their hair and clothes.

In the evening, the setting sun was blood-red. I searched half of the town but could not find any sign of it.

The two stopped to rest, their clothes soaked with sweat.

A little beggar came up to them and asked:

"Are you looking for a gray-haired lady?"

Zhao Shao excitedly hugged the little beggar and asked in a trembling voice:

"Do you know where she is?"

The little beggar said:

"Come with me…"

Zhao Shao followed with the mentality of giving it a try, and Wang Shi followed without saying anything.

The two followed the little beggar into the dilapidated courtyard wall. There was a bonfire in the courtyard, and the dancing flames reflected the faces of the two old men.

Zhao Shao was very familiar with both of them. One was an old man who casually helped on the roadside, and the other was He's mother, whom Zhao Shao had been thinking about all the time.

Zhao Shao looked at He's mother lying on the straw mat, and immediately knelt on the ground, tears streaming down his face, and cried out:

"Mom, I'm sorry I came late and made you suffer."
