The Rise of the Youth in the War of Resistance
Chapter 100 Historical Materials of the Battle of Yongxin
Chapter 1: A sudden change
In 1927, China was in turmoil. Chiang Kai-shek launched the April 4.12th counter-revolutionary coup in Shanghai, massacring revolutionaries. This rapidly deteriorating situation quickly spread to Yongxin.
Yongxin, a small town once brimming with revolutionary fervor, was now shrouded in a haze of gloom. The Kuomintang rightists, colluding with local tyrants and evil gentry like Long Jingquan, bribed counter-revolutionary forces like Li Yiran and Yin Shousong, and orchestrated the horrific June 6.10th counter-revolutionary incident. They launched a surprise attack on the county seat, destroyed the county Party headquarters and various mass organizations, and rounded up the self-defense forces and workers' pickets, confiscating over 40 guns and arresting over 80 Communists, progressive figures, and workers and peasants.
Yan Yan, He Xuemin, Long Zhonggui, and others were arrested and imprisoned. During the enemy's widespread manhunt, Ouyang Luo, with his composure and resourcefulness, narrowly avoided interrogation. With the help of a blacksmith at Shuinan Gate in the county seat, he safely evacuated the county and moved to Ji'an. Liu Zhen, Liu Zuoshu, and Liu Jiaxian escaped danger by leaping over a building and then traveling to Anfu and then Ji'an, escaping the enemy's clutches. They subsequently met at the Ji'an office, where several Yongxin County Party Committee leaders actively discussed contingency plans and sought to rescue the revolutionaries.
He Zizhen, who had been transferred from the CCP Ji'an Local Executive Committee to chair the Women's Committee, escaped this ordeal. It was decided that Ouyang Luo would report to Nanchang, while Liu Jiaxian and other comrades would each head to Anfu, Lianhua, and Ninggang counties to request the Peasant Self-Defense Forces to attack Yongxin County. Liu Zuoshu and others returned to their hometown, Litian District, Yongxin County, to organize a peasant uprising and support the Peasant Self-Defense Forces from the three counties in their attack on Yongxin City.
Chapter 2: The Spark of Revolution
Hanshan Village, Litian District, Yongxin County, is Liu Zuoshu's hometown. In early 1926, Liu Zuoshu brought the revolutionary spirit back to his hometown. He established peasant night schools in Hanshan and Jiantian, organized peasant associations, trained key members of the associations, including Li Liankui, Li Shizhong, and Li Renqing, and mobilized five to six hundred members of the associations and labor unions.
In March of the following year, Liu Zuoshu, Liu Jiaxian, and others led a peasant self-defense force to destroy the private "samurai corps" of local tyrant He Tiaoyuan. They confiscated his property, burned his house, and executed him. The local people applauded, and the burgeoning peasant association movement spurred the establishment of numerous peasant associations throughout the county.
Liu Zuoshu knew that this place had a good revolutionary foundation and was a place where talented people could hide. He decided to launch an uprising here to recapture the lost county power.
Chapter 3: Danger lurks on every side
Liu Zuoshu traveled through the night to return to his hometown, choosing Jiantian Village as the site for his uprising. However, upon reaching Litian Street, he encountered dozens of Litian District KMT right-wing security forces conducting a "mopping-up" operation. Unfortunately, he was arrested.
Upon learning the news, the Jiantian Village Farmers' Association quickly organized a self-defense force and called on farmers' associations from neighboring villages, over 500 of whom rushed to the Ritian District Office to surround it and elect representatives to negotiate for Liu Zuoshu's release. The security forces, terrified by the situation, turned to negotiations. Liu Zuoshu was finally rescued.
The next day, the right-wing Kuomintang Litian District Office was afraid that the revolutionary flames would burn even more, so they pretended to make a medal with the words "Sacrifice and Struggle" written on it and presented it to the Jiantian Farmers' Association. They also held flower sticks, set off firecrackers, and asked for peace to appease the people.
Chapter 4: Burning with Rage
Upon arriving in Jiantian, Liu Zuoshu quickly mobilized the peasant association to organize an uprising and persevered in the struggle. He secretly organized over 30 people to retake the lost county power. However, all this attracted the attention of Long Qinglou, the security captain of the Litian District Office.
Furious and humiliated, Long Qinglou dispatched troops in the middle of the night to round up more than ten Farmers' Association cadres, including Li Huide and Li Leisheng, and their families. They also set fire to several of their association buildings. Negotiations by the association proved ineffective, and the kindhearted gentleman Li Xiele volunteered to lobby, but was met with rebuff. At this point, the association members realized that the only solution was force.
This atrocity further inflamed the hatred of the Jiantian peasants. Seeing the time was ripe, Liu Zuoshu decided to formally launch an armed uprising. Li Shizhong, a cadre of the Farmers' Association, had a family of 30 dan of grain, and his wife, Chen Qingji, came from a wealthy family in the Huanggang area. The couple donated grain and silver dollars to support the insurrectionary force. The insurrectionary force quickly acquired over 7 bird stalks, seven pine trees, dozens of spears, as well as spears, shovels, and other weapons, establishing a considerable offensive force.
Chapter 5: The Jiantian Riot
On July 7, the insurgents slaughtered a pig and held a feast in Jiantian. Mingluo gathered over 2 peasants. Liu Zuoshu was the general commander, Li Liankui was the team leader, and Li Zhongxian was the deputy team leader. They stormed the Litian District Office.
The march was full of activity, with resounding singing along the way. "Hundreds of workers and peasants from Jiantian have formed a line to riot, carrying out peaceful struggles. Today we will overthrow the Litian Office, and tomorrow we will recapture Yongxin City."
As the group crossed Fairy Goose Bridge, they were ambushed by security forces sniping behind a small hill. Instantly, battle erupted, with deafening gunfire, smoke, and a hail of bullets. The rioters charged the hillock several times, firing volleys of cannonballs and pistols at the enemy.
Nineteen members of the Farmers' Association, including Li Shizhong and his wife, Li Anli, and Li Mingyuan, lost their lives on the scene. However, the overwhelming influx of rioters forced the enemy to flee in panic. The rioters pursued them bravely, all the way to the Litian District Office, and the security forces scattered. The rioters quickly rescued over ten imprisoned Farmers' Association officials, including Li Huide and Li Fusheng, seized some military supplies, and occupied the Litian District Office, effectively dealing a blow to the Kuomintang's reactionary arrogance.
Chapter 6: Light of Hope
The victory of the Jiantian Uprising was like a ray of light in the darkness, bringing new hope to the revolution in Yongxin.
Liu Zuoshu and his companions knew that this was only the beginning. They had to continue fighting, supporting the peasant self-defense forces from the three counties in attacking Yongxin City, retaking the lost county power and avenging the arrested Communists and progressives.
On the land of Yongxin, the flames of revolution burned brightly once again. They firmly believed that as long as they united as one and persisted in the struggle, they would be able to defeat the enemy and usher in the dawn of victory.
Chapter 7: Difficult Journey
The victory of the Jiantian Uprising caused great panic among the Kuomintang reactionaries, who began to mobilize more troops and launch a frenzied counterattack against the Litian District.
Liu Zuoshu and others led the rioters to stubbornly resist the enemy's attack. They took advantage of the terrain and launched a fierce guerrilla war with the enemy.
However, the enemy's forces grew in number, their weapons and equipment became more sophisticated. The rioters faced immense pressure, but they did not flinch. They knew they had a crucial mission and could not let down their fellow villagers.
Chapter 8: Unity
During this difficult period, the peasant self-defense forces in Anfu, Lianhua, and Ninggang counties learned of the Jiantian uprising and responded one after another. They quickly organized their forces and prepared to attack Yongxin County.
Liu Zuoshu and others also actively contacted the peasant self-defense forces in the three counties to formulate a battle plan. They knew that only by unity could they defeat the powerful enemy.
With the joint efforts of all parties, the battle to attack Yongxin County is about to begin.
Chapter 9: Decisive Battle of Yongxin
Finally, the peasant self-defense forces of the three counties and the insurgents from Yongxin gathered together. Their morale was high, and they were ready to launch a general attack on Yongxin County.
The battle began, the roar of gunfire and artillery was deafening. The self-defense forces and rioters bravely advanced and engaged in fierce street fighting with the enemy.
During the battle, Liu Zuoshu and his colleagues led the charge, fearless of powerful enemies, fighting tenaciously and even sacrificing their lives for the victory of the revolution.
After fierce fighting, the self-defense forces and the riot team finally captured Yongxin County and rescued the imprisoned Communists and progressives.
Chapter 10: Dawn of Victory
The liberation of Yongxin County marked a major victory for the Jiantian Uprising. This victory greatly inspired the revolutionary spirit of the Yongxin people and made an important contribution to China's revolutionary cause.
Liu Zuoshu and his companions did not indulge in the joy of victory. They knew that the road of revolution was still long. They had to continue working hard to realize the great ideal of communism and to ensure that the people lived a happy life.
On the land of Yongxin, the flame of revolution is burning brighter and brighter, and the dawn of victory is becoming brighter and brighter.
