I want to ruin the country
Chapter 191: Anti-Opium Hero Lin Zexu
When Lin Zexu saw the emperor was so excited, he also said with trembling lips,
"How could I possibly deserve your Majesty's concern for me? I feel so ashamed!"
Yining looked carefully at this legendary figure in modern history who was the most courageous and the first to take the first step in quitting smoking.
Lin Zexu is sixty-six years old this year, of medium height and slightly plump.
He had a broad forehead, big earlobes, thin eyebrows, big double eyelids, bright and sharp eyes, a straight nose, a short mustache on his upper lip, a long beard on his chin, and his eyebrows and beard were all gray.
I didn't expect that such a decisive and ruthless famous minister would have such a kind face.
If he wasn't wearing the uniform of a first-rank official, I would have thought he was just an ordinary rich man!
Lin Zexu was born in 1785, with the courtesy name Yuanfu, and was a native of Houguan County, Fujian Province.
He was the greatest politician, thinker, poet and famous flood control official of that era.
He served as Governor-General of Huguang, Governor-General of Shaanxi and Gansu, and Governor-General of Yunnan and Guizhou.
He was appointed as the imperial commissioner twice and is a national hero in China's fight against opium!
Although he fought against the Western invasion of China all his life, he advocated "learning the enemy's strengths to defeat the enemy" and advocated learning the best and using it!
He was proficient in English and Portuguese, and was in charge of compiling "Records of the Four Continents" and "Illustrated Records of Maritime Countries".
He was the first to collect foreign newspapers and books, obtain valuable information from them, and proposed that we should manufacture cannons and build ships. He was considered the first person to awaken China.
Lin Zexu was the first person to arrange for people to compile and study "International Law".
He was also an expert in construction and water control, and his footprints can be found in Zhejiang, Shanghai Taihu Lake, the Grand Canal, the Yellow River and the Yangtze River.
He wrote a water conservancy work called "Northern Zhili Water Conservancy Book".
He personally took part in everything and once advised Emperor Daoguang on strategies for suppressing bandits in northern Shaanxi.
He agreed with the poet Zhang Jiliang's suggestion that the Yellow River should flow into the sea at Lijin, Shandong instead of Jiangsu.
Lin Zexu spared no effort in disaster relief.
He sold more than one million dan of grain in the government warehouse to the people at market prices, and he also ordered the adoption of the elderly, weak and sick who had no money to buy food.
He invented the karez and the spinning wheel.
He traveled all over from Yili to Xinjiang while sick.
He was the first to discover the threat posed to us by Tsarist Russia.
He proposed to General Buyantai of Yili to "establish military farms and engage in warfare" to be prepared for any eventuality.
Before his death, he warned the Chinese people: "Russia will eventually become a disaster for China!"
Sixty years later, China lost millions of territories to Russia!
In September 1838, Lin Zexu, then the Governor-General of Hunan and Hubei, wrote a letter to the emperor, bitterly accusing him of the harmful effects of opium. Emperor Daoguang finally realized the dangers of opium and appointed Lin Zexu as an imperial envoy to Guangdong to ban smoking.
He was far-sighted and knew that the British would never give up. While banning opium, he recruited more than 5,000 fishermen to form water warriors to prepare for war. He believed that the people's hearts could be used.
These water warriors did not disappoint him. They repeatedly defeated the provocations of the British army and won victories in the Battle of Kowloon and the Battle of Kawana Guanyong.
He confiscated kilograms of opium in Guangzhou. On June 6, Lin Zexu ordered the destruction of opium at Humen.
This is an unprecedented feat in human history, demonstrating the great image of the Chinese nation and its determination to never succumb to aggression.
Be knowledgeable and know foreign languages, understand politics and have foresight, understand military affairs and can fight, understand the dangers and can quit smoking, understand water conservancy and can repair rivers, understand safety and must guard against Russia, do not be arrogant or impatient in good times, and do not complain or bow your head in bad times!
Judging from the above, how many people are there who are so versatile and how many people have such advanced ideas?
What do you think of this person? Is he awesome or great? If Emperor Daoguang could continue to use him, do you think Chinese history would be rewritten?
Historically, Lin Zexu died on the way to suppress the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom when he was sent by the insane emperor.
The real cause of Lin Zexu's death has not been figured out to this day.
There is a saying that because Lin Zexu's ban on opium in Guangzhou caused huge losses to the Thirteen Hongs in Guangzhou, they hated Lin Zexu to the core, so they bribed the chef to put croton seeds in his porridge, causing him to die of diarrhea!
However, when an imperial envoy died, the court had to investigate. After much investigation, they could not find any problems, so they concluded that he died of dysentery!
Yining calculated that this respectable and lovely old man had a little more than nine months to live. How could he be helped to escape this disaster?
Yining was willing to believe that he was murdered. If that was the case, why not just protect the old man in this life?
Even if we can’t cure the disease, we can still save your life!
As a second best option, he would like to believe that Lin Zexu died of exhaustion!
Because when he was seriously ill, he still insisted on lying in a sedan chair in order to reach Guangxi as soon as possible.
If he is not overworked and his hernia is cured by a good doctor, maybe he will be safe!
No matter what, we can’t let him die of illness so early. Yining needs you, and Greater China needs you!
As I thought about it, tears welled up in my eyes.
He thought so much in an instant, but Lin Zexu never expected that he would feel embarrassed when he saw the emperor holding his hands and staring at him.
"emperor……!"
This sentence made Yining realize that he had lost his composure. He laughed at himself.
"Haha, Master Yuanfu, I miss you so much that I can't bear to let go of you when we meet. Please sit down quickly."
Lin Zexu thanked the guest graciously and then sat down, but he only sat for most of the time.
You Zongtang felt uncomfortable. He felt that he had gotten a seat thanks to Lord Lin, but he really didn't dare to sit down. He had no choice but to sit down, so he could only let his butt touch the edge of the chair. It was more comfortable than standing!
Yining had noticed him a long time ago, and he had great respect for the man who carried the coffin to recover Xinjiang!
In modern Chinese history, if it were not for him, China's territory would be missing a large part of Xinjiang, which is 166 million square kilometers.
If Xinjiang is really lost, future generations will not live on a land of 960 million square kilometers, but on a humiliating 794 million square kilometers of territory.
Based on this alone, no matter how much respect he has, it is not excessive. However, he is nothing right now. If he is too enthusiastic towards him, people will inevitably wonder why. He can only be wronged for the time being.
"Master Yuanfu, are you feeling well along the way?"
"Thanks to the Emperor, everything is fine!"
Although Lin Zexu took many boat trips along the way, he did not feel particularly uncomfortable.
Yining said,
"You've been through a lot, sleeping in the open air, so I won't talk to you too much today. I'll just talk about the important things.
After we’re done, we’ll have dinner together, and then you can go and rest first.
I'll have the imperial physician examine Lord Lin and treat any minor ailments he has!"
Lin Zexu was extremely moved. He did not expect the emperor to be so considerate.
"Your Majesty, I am in good health. There is no need to trouble the imperial physician!"
Yining waved his hand and said,
"No, no, no, listen to me on this matter. Don't refuse. I want you to be in good health. I and the court need you!"
