Eastern Han Dynasty, not the Three Kingdoms

Chapter 746: Sacrificing one's life to protect the master

Wu Anguo looked at the unconscious Ma Chao, then at Dian Wei, who was isolated but fighting desperately. He knew in his heart that he had no chance of survival today, and the only way to serve his lord was to die. He took a deep breath, and with all his strength, he raised his arms high, holding the thousand-jin valve tightly. The veins on his arms bulged, and every muscle was trembling. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead like raindrops, and his back was already soaked with sweat. But he gritted his teeth and said nothing, pushing the thousand-jin valve up inch by inch. Every inch of movement consumed his huge physical strength, as if it would drain his life as well. He roared: "My lord, Anguo will die today, just to repay you for your kindness!" The cry was full of sadness and determination. Gradually, the thousand-jin valve was lifted up bit by bit.

Dian Wei faced Lü Bu alone, undaunted. Each evasion and counterattack was delivered with unwavering resolve. But Lü Bu, a formidable warrior, unleashed a relentless onslaught of attacks, unstoppable. Behind him, Zhao Yun rushed to support him, his spear flashing with a cold gleam. Dian Wei dashed left and right, his fists whirring and swishing, dodging fatal blows time and again. But wounds gradually arose, and blood streamed out, quickly staining his clothes red. As time passed, Dian Wei's movements grew slower and slower, his breathing heavier. Finally, under the combined attack of Lü Bu and Zhao Yun, Dian Wei stumbled, struck in the abdomen by a spear, and fell backward. He lay on the ground, gazing at the sky, his gaze gradually unfocused, but the corners of his mouth curled slightly, as if he were relieved to have bought Ma Chao some time.

Ma Chao's BMW Aurora seemed to understand the critical situation as well. It raised its head to the sky and neighed loudly, its neigh full of indomitable spirit and struggle. Its four hooves dug the ground desperately, kicking up a cloud of dust, and it ran hard towards the outside of the city carrying the unconscious Ma Chao.

Wu Anguo's strength was also running out. His arms felt heavier and heavier, as if a thousand-pound weight pressed down on them. His vision went black, and his consciousness began to blur. But he persisted, with only one conviction in his heart: to keep Ma Chao alive. Just as Ma Chao's horse bolted out of the city gate, Wu Anguo could no longer hold on. His legs gave way, and he was crushed beneath the weight of the thousand-pound weight. Blood spread from beneath him, staining the ground red.

Dian Wei's burly body fell heavily. Lu Bu didn't have time to take a second look. He squeezed his legs against the horse's belly and drove the horse towards the city gate. There was a raging rage in his eyes. Only by capturing Ma Chao could he extinguish this fire.

In a flash, Lü Bu reached the city gate, only to be abruptly stopped by the sudden fall of a thousand-pound gate. The heavy gate seemed like an insurmountable chasm, completely separating him from Ma Chao's escape route. Lü Bu's chest heaved violently, his heavy breathing filled with resentment and anger.

At that moment, he caught a glimpse of Ma Chao's golden tiger-head spear, left behind in the city gate corridor. Its shaft gleamed with cold light, its tassel stained with fresh blood. Lü Bu snatched it up and gripped it tightly with both hands, as if grasping Ma Chao's lifeblood.

Lü Bu was furious, his face flushed purple, and veins bulged on his forehead, threatening to burst at any moment. He brandished his golden tiger-head spear and roared at the top of his lungs, "You useless bunch! What are you still standing there for? Quickly, raise the gate and chase Ma Chao out of the city!" The roar threatened to bring the entire city gate down. Trembling with fear, the soldiers scrambled to the capstan, desperately turning it.

Although Lü Bu was confident in his masterful archery, a few arrows left Ma Chao severely wounded, his life or death uncertain. Yet, a knot remained in his heart. How could he swallow his anger if he didn't personally bring Ma Chao's body back? How could he explain this to the forces behind him? A fierce determination to achieve his goal burned in his eyes.

At that moment, Zhao Yun arrived and joined Lü Bu, while Lü Bu's generals also presented him with his Red Hare and Fang Tian Hua Ji. Standing before the city gate, the two men scanned the newly assembled cavalry behind them, along with the soldiers who continued to gather. They quickly selected the elite from among them to form a vanguard force for pursuit. Under the two men's stern gazes, each selected cavalryman straightened their backs, gripped their weapons tightly, and prepared for the impending battle.

With a teeth-grinding "creaking," the gate slowly rose. The moment it opened completely, Lü Bu shoved his horse's belly, sending his Red Hare neighing to the sky. Like an arrow shot from a bow, Lü Bu charged out. Zhao Yun followed closely behind, and the cavalrymen behind him surged like a surging black tide, swirling clouds of dust as they raced towards Ma Chao's escape. They had a single thought: Ma Chao must be found alive or dead. The pursuit would never cease until this matter was resolved.

The BMW Aurora, carrying Ma Chao, whose fate was unknown, rushed out of the Chang'an city gates and, like an arrow from a bow, bolted toward the Xiliang army's encampment. Its hooves flew, stirring up clouds of dust, as if it knew its master's life was hanging by a thread and dared not pause for even a moment.

Jiang Jiong was leading his cavalry toward Chang'an when, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of a swift horse galloping in the distance. The horse was agile and graceful—wasn't it Ma Chao's BMW Aurora? But the rider, slumped over its back, motionless, his life or death unknown. Jiang Jiong's heart skipped a beat, and he was terrified. His heart leaped into his throat. Without a second thought, he bolted for the BMW Aurora.

As he got closer, he saw that it was Ma Chao. Jiang Jiong's heart suddenly sank. He anxiously called out, "General! General!" But Ma Chao didn't respond. His face was as pale as paper, and blood was still oozing from several wounds on his body, staining his clothes red.

Jiang Jiong was anxious and was about to check on Ma Chao, but Aurora, seemingly urged on by something, refused to stop and continued to gallop forward, carrying Ma Chao on his back. Jiang Jiong paused and was about to catch up when suddenly, a dull and rapid rumble echoed, like thunder rolling from the sky. His heart tightened, and he turned to look. In the distance, he saw dust rising and a cavalry force approaching like a black torrent.

At the forefront of this cavalry, a single rider led the charge. His steed, a brilliant crimson steed, resembled a blazing flame, its hooves whirring with the wind, its momentum unparalleled. The mounted commander, wielding a Fang Tian Hua Ji (a painted halberd), held a commanding presence. Who else could it be but Lü Bu? Lü Bu's expression was as gloomy as the sky before a storm, his eyes fixed fixed on the Aurora, ablaze with murderous intent, as if to reduce anything that stood in his way to ash. Seeing this, Jiang Jiong's face paled instantly, and he dispatched a detachment of cavalrymen to follow the Aurora.

Jiang Jiong gazed upon the menacing Lü Bu and Zhao Yun, showing no sign of retreat. With a stern expression, he suddenly drew the long sword from his waist, raised it high, and shouted, "Brothers, follow me and kill!" His voice was firm and powerful, echoing in the air. The remaining cavalrymen behind him, though few in number, were all moved by his aura. They gripped their weapons tightly, let out earth-shaking shouts, and followed Jiang Jiong without hesitation, charging head-on at Lü Bu. The sound of their horses' hooves shook the earth.

Lü Bu watched the cavalry charging forward with such force that he felt no fear. Instead, the warlike instinct in him was aroused. He roared, his voice resounding like a bell: "To try to stop a chariot with a mantis arm is to overestimate one's own strength!" Then, with his legs clamped against the horse's belly, he charged into Jiang Jiong's cavalry like a flash of black lightning. He swung his Fang Tian Hua Ji with impenetrable force, a flash of cold light. Each swing carried immense force, sending blood and flesh flying everywhere it touched, and Jiang Jiong's cavalrymen fell one after another.

Zhao Yun, with his keen eyesight, spotted Wang Jiguang carrying Ma Chao, about to flee. Knowing Ma Chao's importance, he quickly detached a portion of his troops and led the charge, pursuing Wang Jiguang and his escorting cavalry. His swift physique, his spear wielded with dexterity, his momentum unstoppable, he dispatched the soldiers who attempted to stop him, his single-minded goal being to overtake Ma Chao and complete the pursuit.

Jiang Jiong, fully aware of the disparity in numbers, showed no fear, his sole concern buying Ma Chao more time. He charged forward, brandishing his sword, charging towards Lü Bu. The clash of blade and halberd sent sparks flying. However, Lü Bu's martial prowess was so exceptional that after a few rounds, Jiang Jiong began to struggle.

Seeing Jiang Jiong locked in a fierce fight, his guards, eyes red, roared and rushed to protect their master, only to be easily killed by Lü Bu. Jiang Jiong's heart ached, but he had no time to distract himself and could only grit his teeth and resist. Lü Bu, seizing an opening, roared loudly, and with a mighty force, he thrust his Fang Tian Hua Ji into Jiang Jiong. Unable to dodge, Jiang Jiong was pierced through the chest by the halberd.

His eyes widened as he stared at Lü Bu, blood oozing from the corners of his mouth. He held on, refusing to collapse. With his last remaining strength, he roared, "You think you can hurt my general? Dream on!" Then, he plummeted to the ground. The battlefield was a cacophony of shouts and screams. Jiang Jiong's cavalrymen fell one after another, their blood staining the ground red.

The BMW Aurora was like a streak of black lightning, streaking across the vast landscape at lightning speed. As it neared the camp, it discovered a chaotic battle still raging ahead. Guan Yu and Zhang Liao were locked in a fierce battle, the outcome still undecided. Swords flashed, and the cries of battle were deafening. As if possessed of a true spirit, the BMW Aurora sensed the danger ahead. With a high-pitched neigh, it suddenly veered off, darting in the other direction for its life.

Zhao Yun pursued relentlessly, his spear darting up and down, a flash of cold light. The cavalrymen who had followed the BMW Aurora to protect Ma Chao were powerless to withstand his fierce attack. Zhao Yun charged left and right, his spearpoint sending blood and flesh flying everywhere he pointed. In a matter of moments, he had utterly annihilated them all.

After beheading Jiang Jiong, Lü Bu's eyes flashed with a cold light. Without a moment's hesitation, he slammed his legs onto his Red Hare and shouted, "Go!" The horse neighed to the sky, unleashed its hooves, and galloped away. Lü Bu knew that such a great achievement could not be easily granted to Zhao Yun. Even his cavalrymen were still lagging far behind, but he was too anxious to care about anything else. He only wanted to catch up with Ma Chao.

Soon, Lü Bu had caught up with Zhao Yun. He watched the BMW Aurora's retreating figure, his eyes thick with murderous intent, and shouted, "Zilong, this time we must capture Ma Chao. Whoever captures him first will get the credit!" With that, he gave the reins a shake and took the lead in pursuit of the BMW Aurora.

The Aurora galloped along at full speed, its mane dancing wildly in the wind. Its hooves seemed to never touch the ground, leaving only a cloud of dust in its wake. Lü Bu and Zhao Yun pursued relentlessly, determined to capture Ma Chao. Their eyes were fixed on the Aurora ahead, and they galloped at full speed, their hooves clattering so hard that the ground trembled slightly.

I don’t know how far I ran. When BMW Aurora came to his senses, he found that a big river blocked his way.
