Eastern Han Dynasty, not the Three Kingdoms

Chapter 70: Han Sui's coalition forces win again

Han Sui pursued the enemy for a short distance before cautiously gathering his troops. He knew Dong Zhuo's army was formidable and could not be underestimated. He could not afford to let his temporary victory lull him into complacency. He was well aware that pursuing too far could lead to danger, so he dared not allow himself to be complacent. He hurried back to gather his troops and methodically made defensive arrangements, further fortifying his camp and preparing for a sudden counterattack from Dong Zhuo's army.

After escaping Han Sui's attack, Hu Zhen and Li Meng, with their remaining troops, hurried back like frightened birds, to meet Dong Zhuo's approaching army. Upon learning of the vanguard's defeat, Dong Zhuo's already dignified face became distorted with anger. Like a furious lion, he leaped into a rage and immediately inquired about the battle situation in detail. Upon learning that Hu Zhen's underestimation of the enemy and his reckless advance, driven by his greed for military merit, led to this situation, Dong Zhuo's rage was uncontrollable. His eyes widened, threatening to spit fire, and he loudly scolded Hu Zhen, "You, a general who has followed me for so many years, are so foolish! Most of Xiliang is following Han Sui's rebellion. The situation is so complex and dangerous. How can you rely on your vanguard troops to easily overcome it? You are courting death!"

Hu Zhen was so frightened by Dong Zhuo's momentum that he trembled in fear. He knelt on the ground, kowtowed repeatedly, and pleaded guilty to death.

Dong Zhuoyue was getting more and more angry, and his heroic spirit was fully displayed at this moment. He just waved his hand and shouted loudly: "Take this useless thing out and behead it!" This shout sounded like thunder in everyone's ears, which made people tremble with fear.

Seeing this, the generals and Li Ru were all anxious and rushed forward to plead with him. Li Ru said earnestly, "My lord, it is not a good idea to kill a general in battle! Now that we are facing a powerful enemy, we need men. My lord, you can allow Hu Zhen to make meritorious service while serving his sentence, and let him make amends. We can then make arrangements after we defeat Han Sui."

Dong Zhuo listened to Li Ru's words and pondered for a moment, his anger finally subsiding a little. His sharp gaze rested on Hu Zhen for a moment before he finally ordered Hu Zhen to be released temporarily.

Dong Zhuo then waved his hand majestically, urging his troops to advance quickly. He intended to confront Han Sui. His determined gaze revealed a thirst for victory, as if to tell everyone that he would defeat Han Sui, quell the rebellion in Xiliang, and achieve his ultimate goal. Under his leadership, Dong Zhuo's army advanced towards Han Sui with a mighty force, their imposing presence awe-inspiring.

In the sparsely populated Liang Province, the huge battle between Dong Zhuo and Han Sui was a truly spectacular sight.

On the battlefield, flags fluttered, drums beat, and Dong Zhuo's troops stood like a torrent of steel, exuding majesty and dominance. Han Sui's soldiers, likewise, stood ready, their eyes gleaming with a resolute determination. The soldiers of both sides were numerous, densely packed across the battlefield, their figures striking the vast landscape. War horses neighed, weapons gleamed, and the battle seemed to envelop the heavens and earth in an atmosphere of tension and grandeur, filling one's heart with awe at the ferocious clash to come.

Han Sui and Dong Zhuo, surrounded by their generals, reined in their horses before the battle. Dong Zhuo, his eyes wide with anger, shouted, "Han Sui, you traitor! You are such a fickle person! You were previously offered amnesty by the imperial court, but now you've rebelled again! You are nothing short of a treacherous, fickle villain!"

Han Sui's face remained calm as he spoke slowly, "Lord Dong, that's wrong! I'm not rebelling on my own initiative; it's simply the government forcing the people to revolt! Lord Dong is a man of great talent and strategy, a true hero of our time, and we, the Xiliang soldiers, are forced to do so. If Lord Dong can cease our hostilities and negotiate peace, we can join hands and achieve great things together!"

Dong Zhuo sneered after hearing this and said, "Hmph! Forget your sophistry! How could I, Dong Zhuo, be in league with a traitor like you? I will wipe you out today!"

Han Sui also raised his voice and said, "Lord Dong, if you insist on going to war, only the people will suffer! Do you really want to disregard the lives of the people?"

Dong Zhuo was enraged by Han Sui's words. He gritted his teeth and said, "Stop spreading these lies to confuse the people! You traitor, today is the day you die!"

After a few words of argument, Dong Zhuo suddenly turned around and shouted to the generals, "Who can help me capture Han Sui?!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the brave general Fan Chou in his tent shouted, "I am willing to go!" After that, he picked up the spear, squeezed his legs against the horse's belly, and rode to the front of the battle like an arrow.

Fan Chou's horse was neighing under his crotch. He stood there majestically, the spear in his hand shining with cold light, and his whole body exuded a brave and fearless aura.

Han Sui's army was not willing to be outdone. Liang Xing rode his horse and brandished his sword, charging out of the battle formation.

On the battlefield, two great generals, Fan Chou and Liang Xing, instantly engaged in a fierce battle. Fan Chou thrust his spear forward, his shadows like a forest, each strike accompanied by a piercing sound, showcasing his mighty power. Liang Xing, on the other hand, brandished his broadsword, its flashing blade gleaming, and his fierce attack descended upon Fan Chou like a violent storm.

The two war horses galloped at each other, their hooves kicking up clouds of dust. Fan Chou was agile and powerful, his attacks swift and fierce, each blow carrying a tremendous force; Liang Xing was also agile and his swordsmanship was tricky and strange, each swing of his sword carrying a deadly threat.

The two sides fought back and forth in a fierce battle. The sound of weapons clashing was endless, sparks flew, and the battle was extremely intense and thrilling.

On Dong Zhuo's side, Wang Fang and Yang Ding, seeing that Fan Chou and Liang Xing were still tied, rode out again. Han Sui's Li Kan and Zhang Heng also charged forward, spears drawn. The battlefield erupted in the sound of bloodshed, as the six generals engaged in a fierce, indissoluble melee. Fan Chou's spear, like a swift dragon, clashed fiercely with Liang Xing's broadsword, sending out dazzling sparks. Not to be outdone, Wang Fang and Yang Ding, brandishing their weapons, engaged Li Kan and Zhang Heng in a fierce, bloody battle.

Three pairs of generals galloped across the battlefield, swords and spears clashing, shouts of killing and the clash of weapons resounding through the air. Their physiques were agile, their moves unpredictable, sometimes engaging in close combat, other times displaying special skills at a distance. War horses neighed, dust billowed, and the entire battlefield was filled with a thick atmosphere of murderous destruction. The intensity of the battle was dizzying and breathtaking.

As the battle dragged on, after nearly a hundred rounds, Wang Fang of Dong Zhuo's army accidentally exposed a fatal flaw during the fierce fighting. Li Kan keenly sensed this opportunity, a fierce look flashing in his eyes, and his spear shot out like a venomous snake, stabbing Wang Fang fiercely.

With a "puff" sound, the spear pierced Wang Fang's body accurately. Wang Fang screamed and fell off his horse. His eyes gradually lost their luster and his breath of life was quickly fading.

The situation on the battlefield changed instantly. Seeing Wang Fang fall, Dong Zhuo's army suffered a certain blow to their morale, while Han Sui's army was greatly encouraged. Han Sui saw this opportunity and a flash of excitement in his eyes. He raised his arm high without hesitation, then swung it vigorously and shouted: "All troops, charge! Kill them!"

As Han Sui's order was issued, the morale of Han Sui's army suddenly soared. Like a group of wild horses unbridled, they shouted and roared, charging towards Dong Zhuo's army like a surging tide. Their morale was as fierce as a dragon, as if they were determined to tear apart and flatten everything that stood in their way.

Under this sudden and fierce attack, Dong Zhuo's army was momentarily caught off guard by low morale. Morale gradually wore thin under Han Sui's fierce attacks, forcing Dong Zhuo to order a temporary retreat. Though defeated, Dong Zhuo's army remained undeterred. The soldiers retreated in an orderly manner, following their designated route and maintaining close coordination, avoiding any signs of disarray or disorganization.

They returned to the camp quickly and in an orderly manner and took up residence there. During the retreat, the generals of Dong Zhuo's army directed their soldiers to maintain their formation while closely monitoring the movements of Han Sui's army to ensure their safe withdrawal.

As Dong Zhuo's army retreated into their camp, they quickly adjusted their deployment and reinforced their fortifications, preparing for a possible further attack from Han Sui's army. The atmosphere in the camp was tense and solemn. Despite the recent setback, the soldiers' eyes still revealed a steadfast faith and unyielding will. They knew that this was only a temporary setback; as long as they united, they would surely find an opportunity to strike back and regain the initiative on the battlefield.

On the other side of the battlefield, Han Sui's army seized the opportunity and pursued them, advancing triumphantly. Their morale was even stronger, as if they could already see victory beckoning them. However, Han Sui also knew that Dong Zhuo's army was no pushover, and their temporary retreat did not mean complete defeat. The next battle would be even more difficult and intense.
