Travels of a Female Physician in the Ming Dynasty
Chapter 52 I Really Just Want to Get Cure
When we returned to the clinic, it was completely dark.
As I stretched lazily, I sighed that today's trip to Cheng's house was finally a chance to do some serious medical work.
Although life in ancient times was thrilling, occasionally having a successful case was a comfort from God to me, a time traveler.
However, when I thought about having to deal with Li Wan'er's condition and the mysterious old lady, my heart became heavy again.
I'm really a doctor, why do I have to be involved in a bunch of royal secrets?
The next morning, as soon as I opened the door of the clinic, I found a familiar figure standing at the door.
"Zhou Yuan?" I was a little surprised. He came to me so early in the morning. Could it be that he had some new task?
"Miss Yang." Zhou Yuan had a cautious look on his face, and it was obvious that he had something to say.
Sure enough, nothing good happened.
"The prince has a new lead," he whispered. "According to the information we've gathered, several people secretly entered and exited the Li residence on the night the Crown Princess disappeared, and one of them was that old maid."
I was shocked. There was indeed something wrong with the old lady!
"Are you sure it's her?" I lowered my voice, afraid of being heard by passers-by.
Zhou Yuan nodded. "It's basically confirmed, but there's no definitive evidence yet. The prince wants you to continue to monitor her every move, especially her interactions with Li Wan'er."
I pursed my lips, feeling a little conflicted.
On one hand, there is Li Wan'er's illness, and on the other hand, there is the old nanny's conspiracy. These two things are mixed together, making it impossible for me to distinguish between the illness and the case.
"Miss Yang, if you feel it's inconvenient..." Zhou Yuan saw my hesitation.
"No, I'll keep paying attention." I interrupted him and sighed in my heart.
Now that I'm already involved, I might as well go all out.
In the afternoon, I went to Li's house as usual.
As usual, as soon as I entered Li Wan'er's room, the old nanny was already there.
She stood aside, staring at me coldly, as if waiting to see what I would do.
"Imperial Physician Yang." The old nanny's voice was still hoarse, and there was a chilling feeling.
I forced myself to remain calm, walked to Li Wan'er's bedside, and began to take her pulse.
Her pulse is much stronger than a few days ago. It seems that my prescription is indeed working.
"Ms. Li's condition is improving rapidly. She can stop taking the medicine in a few days." I said to Mrs. Li with a smile.
Madam Li nodded gratefully: "Thanks to Imperial Physician Yang."
"This is my duty." I said, glancing at the old lady standing in the corner.
Her expression remained grim, and she seemed unhappy about Li Wan'er's recovery.
Sure enough, this old lady was planning something.
Just as I was about to leave, the old nanny suddenly spoke up, "Imperial Physician Yang, you are such a skilled doctor. I wonder if you also know about the illnesses in the palace?"
My heart tightened. What did she mean by this?
"Illness in the palace?" I asked calmly.
The old nanny smiled slightly and said, "Yes, the nobles in the palace are often weak and sickly. I believe that a miracle doctor like Imperial Physician Yang, who can bring people back to health with his miraculous hands, must have many ways to treat them."
I burst out laughing: I have only been in ancient times for a few months, and there are so many people in the palace, how can I know anything!
"Ma'am, you're too kind. I'm just an ordinary doctor. How dare I claim to have the ability to bring people back to life?" I replied with a smile, trying to play Tai Chi.
The old nanny's eyes flashed, and the corners of her mouth rose slightly: "Imperial Physician Yang is too modest."
Her words made me uneasy. Was she testing me?
Could it be that she has noticed that I am secretly watching her?
After leaving the Li Mansion, I kept thinking about the old nanny's attitude.
Her conversations with me these past few times always contained hints, as if she was testing my bottom line.
What on earth does she want to do?
Back at the clinic, I was just about to take a good rest when someone suddenly knocked on the door.
"Imperial Physician Yang! Is Imperial Physician Yang here?"
I quickly got up and opened the door, only to see a strange servant standing at the door, panting and bowing to me: "Imperial Physician Yang, please go and see our master!"
"Your master? Who is he?" I was a little confused.
"It's the master of the Zhu Mansion! He suddenly fell ill and is unconscious." The servant said anxiously.
Zhu Mansion? I seem to have heard of him. He seems to be a person of some importance.
"Okay, I'll go right away." Without thinking too much, I quickly grabbed the medicine box and went out.
When I arrived at the Zhu Mansion, I realized that this family was no ordinary family. There were more guards at the door than in any other mansion I had ever seen.
It seems that the identity of this Mr. Zhu is indeed not simple.
I was taken to the inner courtyard. The room was filled with a strong smell of medicine. Mr. Zhu lying on the bed had a sallow face and weak breathing.
"Imperial Physician Yang, what happened to him?" a young lady asked anxiously.
I walked up and took Mr. Zhu's pulse, and suddenly felt something was wrong.
This is clearly a symptom of poisoning!
"Did he eat something wrong?" I asked.
The lady was startled, then shook her head: "No, the master has been in the mansion these days and has been eating normal meals."
I frowned and thought to myself.
If it's not food poisoning, then someone deliberately poisoned it.
"Madam, this is not an ordinary illness. Mr. Zhu has been poisoned." I said directly.
"Poisoned?" The lady's face changed drastically. She obviously didn't expect the matter to be so serious.
I nodded, immediately took out the antidote from the medicine box, and started giving acupuncture to Mr. Zhu.
Time is running out and I have to race against time, otherwise his condition is likely to worsen.
After some intensive rescue efforts, Mr. Zhu's breathing finally returned to normal and his complexion gradually improved.
I breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from my forehead.
"Imperial Physician Yang, thank you so much!" Madam was so excited that she almost knelt down in front of me.
I quickly supported her and said, "Madam, you're welcome. Saving lives is a doctor's duty."
Just then, a middle-aged man in official uniform hurried in. Seeing that Mr. Zhu was safe and sound, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Imperial Physician Yang, you saved my father's life." He bowed deeply to me, his expression full of gratitude.
Only then did I realize that Mr. Zhu was an important official in the court, and this middle-aged man was his eldest son, the eldest son of the Zhu family.
"Imperial Physician Yang, where did my father get the poison? Is there any way to find out?" asked Master Zhu.
I shook my head. "The source of the poison is still unclear, but I have prescribed several antidotes. Please take good care of Mr. Zhu and prevent him from coming into contact with any suspicious food."
Master Zhu nodded and said, "Don't worry, Imperial Physician Yang, I will investigate this matter thoroughly."
It was already dark when we left Zhu's house.
I walked down the street, feeling somewhat uneasy.
Mr. Zhu's poison came out of nowhere. Could it be related to something happening in the Li Mansion or the palace?
Coupled with the old lady’s recent strange behavior and Zhou Yuan’s reminder, I increasingly feel that this situation seems to be much more complicated than I imagined.
Alas, I really just want to be cured!
When I returned to the clinic, I was about to take a good rest when I suddenly heard footsteps coming from the door.
When I looked up, it was Zhou Yuan.
"Miss Yang, something has changed." He walked closer to me, a hint of nervousness in his tone.
"What has changed?" My heart tightened.
Zhou Yuan whispered, "We've found some new clues. The Crown Princess' disappearance might not only be related to the Li Mansion, but also... the Zhu Mansion."
I was stunned.
Zhu Mansion? I just came back from the Zhu Mansion. Could it be that these two families are also involved in the same conspiracy?
"Miss Yang, it seems that things are much more complicated than we imagined. You have to be more careful, especially in the contact between the Li and Zhu Mansions." Zhou Yuan's expression was more solemn than ever.
I suddenly felt like throwing up. Am I possessed by Conan? Wherever I go, there are suspects.
