It's not too late to meet in the book
Chapter 62 An unexpected encounter
Sunlight shone slantingly on the busy streets, bustling with people and traffic. The hustle and bustle of the city seemed particularly vivid at this moment. Renault, dressed simply in a T-shirt and jeans, a small backpack slung over his shoulder, moved briskly among the crowds. Since returning to reality from that strange world and choosing to temporarily live with Su Xiaoxiao and Lin Yu, life seemed to have gradually returned to normal, but the deep desire to explore the unknown had never subsided.
One day, he was planning to go to the nearby library to look up some information on the mysteries left behind by that world. As he turned the corner, a scene not far away caught his eye: a white-haired old man, carrying a heavy shopping bag, suddenly stumbled and fell forward, spilling the contents of the bag to the ground.
Renault rushed forward almost instinctively, quickly and steadily supporting the old man, and asked gently: "Old man, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?"
The old man was still in shock, his face pale. He held Renault's arm tightly with both hands and said in a trembling voice: "Thank... Thank you, young man. I'm fine, but my legs are a little weak."
Renault carefully helped the old man sit down on a bench by the roadside, then bent down and began to pick up the scattered items and put them back into the bag one by one. Some passers-by hurried by, while others stopped and cast approving glances, but few stepped forward to help.
At this moment, a clear voice sounded in my ears: "Do you need help?"
Renault looked up and saw a girl in a light blue dress standing not far away. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, dappling her body and adding a touch of gentleness to her. This was Su Xiaoxiao's friend, Wang Jing.
Renault smiled slightly and nodded: "Thank you, there are quite a lot of these things, it would be great if you could help pick them up."
Wang Jing joined in without hesitation, and the two of them worked together in perfect harmony, quickly putting everything back in its place. The old man watched this scene, his eyes filled with gratitude: "What kind young people! Thank you."
Renault patted the old man on the back and comforted him, "You're welcome. Be careful when you go out in the future. It's best to have someone accompany you."
The old man nodded repeatedly, looked at them gratefully, slowly stood up and left, his back gradually disappearing into the crowd.
After taking care of everything, Renault turned to Wang Jing. The two smiled at each other, and a subtle atmosphere filled the air. "I'm Renault. Thank you for your help just now." Renault spoke first, his voice gentle and polite.
Wang Jing smiled slightly, revealing two shallow dimples. "I'm Wang Jing. Actually, I should be the one thanking you. You looked so handsome just now. You helped the old man without hesitation."
Renault scratched his head embarrassedly: "I just did what I should do, it's no big deal."
Wang Jing shook her head and said seriously, "In this fast-paced society, many people choose to turn a blind eye. Your behavior is very heartwarming."
The two walked and talked, and before they knew it, they had reached a cafe on the corner of the street. Renault suggested, "Why don't we go in, sit down, rest for a while, and chat?"
Wang Jing readily agreed, and the two of them walked into the cafe together and found a seat by the window. The waiter quickly brought two cups of steaming hot coffee, the aroma filling the air and adding a touch of comfort to the afternoon.
"So, you are Xiaoxiao's friend?" Renault stirred the coffee gently, with curiosity in his eyes.
Wang Jing chuckled. "Yes, we're college classmates and good friends. Xiaoxiao told me you've been staying at her house lately. How's that?"
Renault took a sip of coffee and smiled warmly: "Very good, Xiaoxiao and Lin Yu both take good care of me and make me feel like home."
"Then the place you went to before... must be very special, right?" Wang Jing's eyes flashed with inquiry, but she was still polite.
Renault was slightly stunned, then nodded, his eyes becoming profound. "Yes, it's a world that's hard to describe in words, full of unknowns and miracles. But now, I want to cherish every moment in front of me."
Wang Jing listened quietly, without interrupting, only occasionally casting an understanding glance. After Renault finished speaking, she slowly spoke: "That sounds like an incredible experience. Sometimes, life just needs these little unexpected surprises, doesn't it?"
Renault smiled, a smile of relief and a hint of longing: "Indeed, just like meeting you today, it was also a beautiful accident."
Wang Jing's cheeks flushed slightly as she lowered her head and took a sip of coffee, concealing the throbbing in her heart. Soft music played in the cafe, and the sunlight outside the window was just right. Everything seemed so harmonious and beautiful.
"By the way, what do you like to do in your daily life?" Renault tried to make the atmosphere more relaxed.
"I like painting and traveling," Wang Jing said with a twinkle in her eyes. "I always feel that a brush can record the beautiful moments in life, while traveling allows me to see a wider world."
Renault nodded with interest. "That's great. I also like to explore the unknown, whether through books or personal experience. Perhaps, we can share some travel stories or paintings together next time if there is a chance."
A hint of surprise flashed in Wang Jing's eyes, and then she smiled and said, "It's settled then. I look forward to our next meeting."
The two continued chatting, from hobbies to perspectives on life, the topic gradually deepened, and the distance between them seemed to be getting closer. Time in the cafe seemed to slow down, and it was intoxicating.
When the afterglow of the setting sun shone through the window onto the table, the two of them stopped talking at the same time, smiled at each other, and there was unfinished words in their eyes.
"Time flies so fast. I should go back." Wang Jing said softly, with a hint of reluctance in her tone.
Renault stood up and pulled out a chair for her like a gentleman: "Then I'll take you there, or at least let me help you carry your bag to the station."
Wang Jing did not refuse. The two walked out of the cafe side by side and merged into the evening streets, leaving behind a string of laughter and gradually fading away in the afterglow of the sunset.
"I'm really happy today. Thank you, Renault." Wang Jing stopped in front of the station, looked back at Renault, with sincerity shining in her eyes.
Renault smiled and responded, "Me too, Wang Jing. I look forward to our next meeting."
The bus slowly approached, Wang Jing waved, and stepped onto the carriage. The door closed, and the bus slowly drove away, leaving Renault standing there, watching her go, with an inexplicable feeling welling up in his heart.
This unexpected encounter seemed to open a new window in Renault's life, filling the future with more possibilities and expectations. And it all started on that sunny afternoon, with a simple yet extraordinary encounter.
