It's not too late to meet in the book

Chapter 4: Ancient Daily Life, Getting Better

Su Xiaoxiao's days at the Su Mansion slipped away like flowing water. Ever since that day of lunch with Master Su, she had begun a new journey of life—adapting to the rhythm of life and cultural customs of the ancient times.

In the early morning, when the first rays of sunlight penetrated the clouds and gently brushed the eaves of the Su Mansion, Su Xiaoxiao was awakened by Cui'er's gentle voice. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked out the window, only to see the flowers in the courtyard, moistened by the morning dew, looking even more beautiful.

"Miss, it's time to get up. Today we are going to start learning the etiquette of the Su family." Cui'er said as she prepared toiletries for Su Xiaoxiao.

Su Xiaoxiao felt a mixture of nervousness and anticipation upon hearing this. She knew that to truly integrate into this era, she must master the local etiquette and culture. So, she quickly dressed and followed Cui'er to the main hall of the Su Mansion.

Inside the hall, several elderly women from the Su residence had been waiting for a long time. They were dressed in gorgeous clothes, their faces dignified, and their eyes revealed a sense of majesty. Seeing this, Su Xiaoxiao couldn't help but feel a little uneasy.

"Miss, come and meet the elders." Cui'er reminded softly.

Su Xiaoxiao hurried forward and saluted, saying respectfully, "Greetings, elders."

Seeing this, the elders all smiled with satisfaction. One of the older women said softly, "Xiaoxiao, you're new here, so you might not be familiar with the rules of our Su Mansion. But it's okay, we'll teach you slowly. Just remember that etiquette is the foundation of how you conduct yourself in society. Never forget this, no matter where you go."

Su Xiaoxiao felt a surge of warmth in her heart when she heard this. She knew that although these elders were strict, they were all doing it for her own good. This strengthened her resolve to learn etiquette.

In the days that followed, Su Xiaoxiao began to systematically learn the etiquette of the Su Mansion under the guidance of her elders. She memorized everything from how to greet others, how to address elders, how to dine, how to talk to people, and how to handle interpersonal relationships.

Whenever she encountered a problem she didn't understand, she would humbly ask the elders for help, and the elders would patiently answer her questions, sometimes giving practical examples to help her better understand.

In addition to learning etiquette, Su Xiaoxiao also began to understand the culture of this era. She discovered that the culture here was completely different from the modern culture she was familiar with. Whether it was poetry, song, calligraphy and painting, or music, dance, opera or other art forms, each one possessed a unique charm and appeal.

Whenever she had free time, she would beg Cui'er to take her to the Su Mansion's library. The vast collection of books and scrolls there made her feel like she was immersed in a vast ocean of culture. She greedily absorbed this knowledge, feeling the breadth and depth of ancient culture.

As time went by, Su Xiaoxiao gradually adapted to life in the Su Mansion. Not only did she master the etiquette and culture of the Su Mansion, she also developed deep relationships with everyone in the Su Mansion. Whether it was the care and guidance of the elders or the companionship and playfulness of her peers, she felt an immense warmth and happiness.

That day, Su Xiaoxiao and several sisters of the same age were playing in the garden. They chased butterflies, picked flowers, and their laughter filled the whole garden.

"Xiaoxiao, look how beautiful this flower is!" said a sister named Wan'er, pointing to a blooming peony.

Upon hearing this, Su Xiaoxiao hurried over to take a closer look. She saw the peony's petals, layered and vibrant, resembling the elegant beauty of a noble lady. She couldn't help but exclaim, "Yes, it's beautiful! The flowers here are much more vibrant than those of today!"

As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly realized that she had said something wrong. She quickly covered her mouth and looked at the sisters around her. They were all staring at her blankly, their eyes full of confusion.

"Xiaoxiao, what did you mean by 'modern' just now?" Wan'er asked curiously.

Su Xiaoxiao was startled and quickly explained, "Oh, it's nothing. I mean, the flowers here are more beautiful than any I've ever seen before."

After hearing her words, the sisters all smiled in relief and continued playing as if nothing had happened.

Yet, Su Xiaoxiao's heart was filled with ripples. She knew that although she had gradually adapted to life here, she could not let go of the secret deep in her heart. In the quiet of the night, she would lie in bed, looking out the window at the starry sky, thinking of that distant time and her loved ones.

But she also knew that she couldn't continue to immerse herself in the memories of the past. She had to cherish her present life and work hard to adapt to everything here. So, she secretly made up her mind to study etiquette and culture more diligently so that she could truly become a young lady of the Su family who belonged to this era.

The days passed quietly in a busy and fulfilling atmosphere. Su Xiaoxiao's life in the Su Mansion became more and more handy. She not only mastered more etiquette and cultural knowledge, but also established a deeper relationship with everyone in the Su Mansion.

That evening, Su Xiaoxiao and Cui'er walked together on the corridor. The afterglow of the setting sun shone on them, as if covering them with a layer of golden coat.

"Miss, you are gradually adapting to life here." Cui'er said softly.

Su Xiaoxiao smiled slightly when she heard this: "Yes, thanks to you and everyone's help. I now feel like a real Miss Su."

Cui Er smiled with satisfaction after hearing her words: "That's good. In fact, I have always admired you, young lady. You are not only smart and clever, but also work so hard to learn etiquette and culture. I believe that you will become the pride of the Su family in the future."

After hearing Cui'er's words, Su Xiaoxiao felt a surge of warmth in her heart. She looked at Cui'er and said gratefully, "Cui'er, thank you for your constant companionship and support. I will continue to work hard and will not let you down."

The two of them walked and talked, and soon returned to Su Xiaoxiao's dormitory. They sat together in front of the window, looking at the night sky outside, and talked about each other's thoughts and dreams.

"Miss, what are your plans for the future?" Cui'er suddenly asked.

Su Xiaoxiao was stunned for a moment, then fell into deep thought. She knew this was a question worth pondering. So, she slowly said, "Actually, I haven't thought about it yet. But I think that no matter what I do in the future, I must strive to be a useful person. I must not only bring honor to myself, but also to the Su family."

Cui Er listened to her words and nodded approvingly: "Well, I believe that you can do it. No matter what difficulties you encounter in the future, I will always be by your side and support you."

Su Xiaoxiao felt an inexplicable surge of emotion upon hearing this. She looked at Cui'er and smiled gratefully. She knew that in this strange time, she had found her home and family. This rare bond of family and friendship would become the most precious treasure of her life.

"Cui'er, thank you. It's great to have you by my side." Su Xiaoxiao said softly.

Cui Er also smiled when she heard this. She held Su Xiaoxiao's hand tightly, as if to pass on this warmth and strength to her.

The two smiled at each other and looked forward to a better life in the future.
