Chapter 31 Mysterious Letter

After finding Su Xiaoxiao at the inn, Lin Yu went out to look for clues early in the morning, but he had no clue.

Su Xiaoxiao and Lin Yu walked with light footsteps back to the inn where they stayed. This was a two-story wooden inn. Although the exterior looked a little old, the interior was clean and tidy, exuding a warm atmosphere.

"I'm really tired today. I hope I can rest early." Su Xiaoxiao rubbed her sore shoulders and said to Lin Yu beside her.

Lin Yu smiled slightly and nodded, "Yes, let's continue our investigation tomorrow."

The two pushed open the door of the room, and a faint woody fragrance came to their noses. Just as they were about to pack their luggage, Lin Yu's eyes were suddenly attracted by a letter on the ground at the door. "Xiaoxiao, look, there is a letter here."

Su Xiaoxiao heard this, walked over, bent down, and picked up the letter. The envelope was ordinary, without the sender's address or the recipient's name. It was sealed with a wax seal. On the wax seal was a strange symbol, like some kind of totem, or ancient text, blurred and difficult to decipher.

"This... what is this?" Su Xiaoxiao frowned, trying to find more clues from the envelope, but there was nothing else except that symbol.

Lin Yu took the envelope and looked at the symbol carefully, frowning, "I have never seen such a symbol before. It looks quite old."

The two carefully opened the envelope, revealing a yellowed piece of letter paper. The handwriting on the letter paper was also blurred, as if it had been eroded by time, leaving only a few recognizable words and that recurring strange symbol.

"This letter... seems to contain some secrets." Su Xiaoxiao said in a low voice, with an inexplicable curiosity in her heart.

Lin Yu nodded, a hint of determination flashed in his eyes. "No matter what, since this letter appeared at our door, it must be related to our investigation. We have to find out the meaning of this symbol."

As night fell, the town was immersed in tranquility. Su Xiaoxiao and Lin Yu decided not to wait until tomorrow and began their investigation immediately. They left the inn and walked through the narrow alleys, asking every resident who might know something.

"Excuse me, have you ever seen such a symbol?" Su Xiaoxiao took out a piece of paper with the symbol drawn on it and asked an old lady who was weaving a basket at the door.

The old lady squinted her eyes and looked at it, then shook her head. "I've never seen this before. This symbol is very strange. It doesn't look like something from our town."

Then they went to the town's grocery store. The owner was a middle-aged man who looked knowledgeable. Lin Yu showed him the symbol and asked, "Do you know what this is?"

The shop owner took the paper and studied it carefully for a long time. In the end, he was also confused. "This... I really don't know. However, if you are interested in the history of this town, you might want to go to the old library in the east of the town. There may be some ancient books there that can help you."

After getting this clue, Su Xiaoxiao and Lin Yu immediately went to the old library in the east of the town. The library was located in an old courtyard, surrounded by tall sycamore trees, which made it look particularly quiet. When they opened the door, a scent of old books filled their nostrils. The bookshelves were filled with all kinds of books, some of which were yellowed and some were even damaged.

Under the guidance of the librarian, they began to flip through the ancient books on the town's history and semiotics. As time passed, the sound of pages turning was particularly clear in the quiet library.

"Look, similar symbols are mentioned in this book!" Su Xiaoxiao suddenly shouted excitedly, holding a thick ancient book in her hand and pointing her finger at a page of illustrations.

Lin Yu hurried over and saw a symbol on the page that was very similar to the one on their envelope. There were a few lines of small words next to it. The handwriting was blurred, but it was barely recognizable: "This is the seal of the ancient gods. Legend has it that it can open the secret door hidden in the world."

"Seal of the Ancient God?" Lin Yu murmured to himself, his heart full of doubts and curiosity.

Su Xiaoxiao closed the book, her eyes determined. "It seems we have found a clue. This symbol may be related to an ancient secret."

The two decided to continue their investigation. They walked out of the library. It was late at night and there were almost no pedestrians on the streets of the town. Only a few lanterns were swaying in the wind, casting mottled light and shadows.

"What do you think is the secret behind this letter?" Su Xiaoxiao asked as she walked, with a glimmer of exploration in her eyes.

Lin Yu pondered for a moment, and said slowly: "No matter what it is, since it has found us, we must find out. Perhaps, there is key information about the town or even the incident we are investigating."

As she was speaking, a gust of wind blew by, bringing a hint of chill. Su Xiaoxiao couldn't help but pull at her collar, but her eyes became more determined. "No matter what, we have to find the answer."

Just then, a deep voice suddenly came from behind them, "Are you looking for the answer to that symbol?"

Su Xiaoxiao and Lin Yu turned around suddenly and saw a man in a black robe with his face hidden in the shadows standing not far away. His eyes seemed to be able to see through all the secrets.

"Who are you? How do you know we are looking for this symbol?" Lin Yu asked vigilantly, while grabbing Su Xiaoxiao's hand, ready to deal with any emergency.

The black-robed man slowly took a few steps forward. His voice was low and mysterious. "It doesn't matter who I am. What matters is that I know everything about that symbol. If you want to know the truth, follow me."

After saying that, the man in black robe turned around and disappeared into the night, leaving Su Xiaoxiao and Lin Yu looking at each other, their hearts full of unknowns and expectations.

"What should we do? Should we follow?" Su Xiaoxiao asked in a low voice, with curiosity and hesitation in her eyes.

Lin Yu took a deep breath and nodded. "No matter what, we have to find the answer. Let's go and follow and see."

The two men looked at each other, then took a step forward, following the black-robed man's trail, stepping into the deeper night, their hearts filled with curiosity about the unknown and a desire to explore.
