Chapter 7: Burn, My Flesh

Feeling irritated, Xiao Yichen slowly walked out of the Sutra Library. Seeing him come out empty-handed, a senior sister at the door asked in confusion, "Didn't you find the secret manual that Senior Sister Yun wanted?"

Hearing this, he could only nod awkwardly and said, "I'd better let Senior Sister find it herself. I've only been practicing for a short time and am not very familiar with these secret manuals. I've been searching for a long time but haven't found it."

They didn't talk for too long. Xiao Yichen wandered around the sect aimlessly, thinking about where to find the body-tempering energy he needed. Before he knew it, he had walked to the back mountain.

As luck would have it, it happened to encounter the hunting rhubarb. At this moment, it was biting a goat's neck with its mouth full of blood. The goat in its mouth was completely dead.

When Dahuang saw Xiao Yichen walking towards him from a distance, he subconsciously ran away. But after running a few steps, he remembered that the plague god seemed to have changed his nature and would not beat him anymore. He threw the goat's corpse in his mouth aside and ran towards Xiao Yichen happily with a smile on his face, just like a silly dog.

Seeing this scene, Xiao Yichen couldn't help but smile. He gently rubbed Dahuang's head and followed it slowly towards the cave.

On the way, Dahuang was very human and noticed that Xiao Yichen was not in a good mood. He ran to him, lay down and motioned Xiao Yichen to sit on him. Seeing this, he didn't hesitate and grabbed Dahuang's two ears and rode on him.

Soon, the man and the beast returned to the cave. Xiao Yichen helped Dahuang clean the goat's body, plucking the hair and taking out the internal organs. When Dahuang was about to take a bite, he was stopped by Xiao Yichen. Facing Dahuang's puzzled look, he just smiled slightly.

"I'm giving you a day off today. I'll let you taste my cooking skills as a reward for beating you up these past few months." After saying that, he took Da Huang out of the cave and picked up some dead tree trunks in the nearby woods. Soon, the two of them returned to the cave dragging a large pile of firewood.

Relying on his memories of the previous world, Xiao Yichen began to set up the barbecue grill. After a while, a simple rack that looked unstable appeared in front of him.

"Alas... my skills have declined, so I'll just have to make do with it."

He took out a tinder from his bag and started a fire below. Then he found a relatively straight tree trunk, skewered the goat's body, and slowly roasted it over the fire.

After a while, the aroma of meat wafted out of the cave, causing Dahuang to drool all over the floor. If Xiao Yichen had not closed its mouth, the roasted whole lamb would have been ruined.

At this time, a strange noise was heard outside the cave. Xiao Yichen looked over and found that Xiaobai and Xiaohua had returned. At this moment, they were staring at the roasted lamb that was constantly emitting fragrance. Like Dahuang, they couldn't help but shed tears of happiness from their mouths.

The two beasts ran quickly to Xiao Yichen, one in front and one behind, and kept rubbing their heads against him. The meaning was obvious. After settling the three beasts, he turned his attention back to the almost cooked roasted whole lamb in his hand.

Soon, he tore off a piece of meat, put it in his mouth and started eating.

"Hmm...it's cooked, but without the seasoning, it doesn't taste very good. But this is all I have now."

He removed the four legs of the roasted whole lamb and stuffed one into each of their mouths. Looking at the three guys wolfing down the food, he curled his lips and muttered with disdain: "A bunch of guys who have never seen the world, are you satisfied with this?" Then he sat comfortably at the entrance of the cave and slowly began to eat the lamb leg in his hand.

Before he could finish eating the lamb leg in his hand, the whole lamb had been divided up by the three of them, leaving only the bones on the ground.

Then the three beasts came slowly to Xiao Yichen as if they had colluded with each other, squatted on the ground, staring at him as he continued to eat the lamb leg, and glanced at the two corpses on the ground from time to time.

How could Xiao Yichen not know what that meant? He knocked on their three heads, helplessly placed the lamb leg on a clean stone, rolled up his sleeves, and began to deal with the other two animal carcasses.

Two hours later, the three beasts enjoyed their food happily again. When Xiao Yichen finished eating the half-meter-long leg of lamb in his hand, he burped loudly, looked at the three guys lying on the ground practicing, smiled slightly, and inadvertently glanced at the burning firewood beside him, and was suddenly startled.

"Fire? It seems to be a kind of energy in nature. Can it be used to temper the body?" Thinking of this, he didn't say anything more and just did it. He piled all the wood together. The temperature in the cave began to rise continuously, and Dahuang and the others were awakened by this change.

Xiao Yichen had rebuilt a new grill in the cave, which was much larger than the previous one. At this moment, he was holding on to the wood, enduring the burning sensation coming from below.

Da Huang and the other two stared at Xiao Yichen on the shelf in amazement, probably thinking, "Could it be that this big brother is too excited about the barbecue and is afraid that they won't have enough, so he's going to roast himself as a snack for them?"

The three beasts rushed towards the fire quickly. Xiao Yichen had no time to stop them. He saw the flames that had been ignited with great difficulty below being extinguished. As soon as he let go, his buttocks sat directly on the firewood that had not yet been completely extinguished, and he screamed in pain.

"You three are more trouble than help. Can't you see I'm busy? And yet you come here to mess things up?" He scolded Da Huang and the other two, leaving them stunned. They must be thinking, "How can humans be so weird? They saved him and then turned around and scolded them. Is this their way of expressing gratitude?"

Looking at the firewood that was almost completely extinguished, Xiao Yichen could only sigh. He knew that Dahuang and the others were trying to save him, but all their efforts were in vain.

When he was burned by the fire on the fire rack, in addition to the severe pain, he could also clearly feel that his body was indeed being tempered, which showed that this path was feasible. As long as he continued like this, he would break through to the Body Tempering Realm sooner or later.

After driving Dahuang and the others out of the cave, he picked up the wood again and prepared to continue. The faster his strength increased, the greater the shock to others would be.

Two days later, Xiao Yichen, covered in black, staggered back to the sect and walked straight towards the alchemy room. When he found Liu Qingqing, he really scared her.

"Junior brother, where did you go to dig coal? How did you get yourself like this?" As he said that, he held Xiao Yichen's arm and slowly led him into the alchemy room and began to help him treat his wounds. For injuries like this, the sect did not manage them so strictly. They were just superficial injuries and only needed some bandages.

After a while, a mummy-looking Xiao Yichen appeared in Liu Qingqing's eyes. Trying to suppress the urge to laugh, Liu Qingqing looked up and down at her masterpiece, but in the end she couldn't help it and laughed out loud.

"Haha, little junior brother, where have you been these past few days? Did you do something bad and get struck by thunder? Haha, I'm dying of laughter." Regardless of Liu Qingqing's laughter, Xiao Yichen heard a key piece of information in her words, thunder...

He kept thinking in his heart: "Lei? Lei? Lei... What a good idea. Instead of being roasted by fire every day, I might as well take a big gamble." In his excitement, the wounds on his body were torn open, and the pain made him gasp with a hissing sound.

"Senior Sister Liu, do you have any elixir that can heal wounds quickly? I'd like to buy it at a high price." Xiao Yichen turned his head with difficulty and looked at Liu Qingqing, his eyes sparkling.

Liu Qingqing was frightened by this look, and goose bumps appeared all over her body. She rubbed her arms with her hands and asked, "What's wrong? Did you meet an enemy? Have you forgotten the sect rules again?"

Hearing this, Xiao Yichen had already prepared an excuse: "The sect rules mean this is not easy to solve. It's better to not get caught. After all, the injury I have now will heal by night. When I'm better, you can just give it to me secretly. Who would know? I'm not injured and come to you for treatment. You can just keep it with me temporarily. That way, I'll wake up, right?"

Listening to Xiao Yichen's specious arguments, Liu Qingqing wanted to refute him, but she couldn't find a point to refute. It seemed that this was actually possible. After all, the sect only stipulated that injured disciples could not be treated, but it didn't say that elixirs could not be given to others for safekeeping. Xiao Yichen had indeed found a bug, but Liu Qingqing always felt that she was being fooled. She continued to ask, "Well, let's not talk about the sect's rules for now. Do you have money? You pauper."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Yichen felt a little embarrassed. It seemed that he really couldn't afford it. He didn't have a penny on his body. He hadn't even paid Liu Qingqing for the last time he had troubled her to make medicine. Now he was asking for it again. It was really unreasonable.

The man and the mummy stared at each other with wide eyes. Xiao Yichen felt very embarrassed at the moment, and said in anger:

"It's true that even a penny can make a hero fall, and the debt is more than a penny."
