Three Women in the Cage

Chapter 13: Eye for Eye

Yang Yu brought Liu Chunxiang to the small courtyard outside and saw Zhang Erfa and his brothers-in-law packing up their work tools.

Liu Chunxiang saw Zhang Erfa at a glance. Zhang Erfa was really conspicuous among these people, and Liu Chunxiang also used some filters, so when Zhang Erfa looked at him, he couldn't wait to step forward and called out "Brother Zhang" with joy.

Looking up, Zhang Erfa was stunned for a moment. After all, they had only met once, so his impression was a bit vague. Seeing that Zhang Erfa didn't react, Liu Chunxiang said anxiously, "Chunxiang, we met at Sister Yu's house."

Hearing this, Zhang Erfa finally reacted and said, "Oh, I remember now, Chunxiang, why did you come here? Are you looking for your sister Yu? Well, come and accompany her more often, so that she won't be worried about all sorts of things all day long." "Well, I happened to come here for something, so I came to see sister Yu."

Actually, Zhang Erfa was not good at talking, and even worse at talking to women, so he hurriedly said, "You play first, I'll clean up here first," and then he hurriedly took his work tools into the storage room.

Yang Yu gave Liu Chunxiang a few instructions and went into the kitchen to help. The other brothers-in-law were busy with their own things, so Liu Chunxiang was left aside.

She looked around awkwardly, and was at a loss as to what to do when suddenly a hand patted her shoulder. "Hey, do you want to eat this?" She turned around and saw a boy of about seventeen or eighteen years old, holding a bunch of small red fruits picked from the mountain.

Liu Chunxiang looked at the small fruit in his hand. Before he could say anything, the boy urged, "Here, you can eat it. It's very sweet. Try one." Then he raised the red fruit in his hand to Liu Chunxiang.

Liu Chunxiang picked up one woodenly and put it gently into his mouth. A sweet and sour taste spread in his mouth. Liu Chunxiang squinted his eyes, smiled at the boy with satisfaction, and then said embarrassedly, "It's really sweet, thank you."

Just as the boy was about to strike up a conversation, Zhang's mother came over with a smile on her face and called out to Liu Chunxiang, "Chunxiang, come quickly, it's time for dinner." The food was already on the table. Yang Yu also came over and pulled Liu Chunxiang to sit down on the table chair.

After Zhang's father and mother sat down, the others also sat down one after another. Yang Yu sat on the left side of Liu Chunxiang, while Zhang Laosan had taken the seat on the right side first. Yang Yu glanced at Zhang Laosan and said nothing.

Zhang Laosan suddenly called out "Second sister-in-law" unexpectedly. Usually, these brothers-in-law treated him coldly, let alone respectfully calling him sister-in-law.

Yang Yu turned around to take a look in confusion, but Zhang Laosan looked up at Yang Yu with a forced smile and said, "Sister-in-law, is this your fellow villager? She is so beautiful. Why don't you introduce her to me?"

Yang Yu knew Zhang Laosan, a smooth talker who always made her parents-in-law smile. They liked him very much and showed a preference for him that none of her brothers-in-law, including Zhang Erfa, had.

That's right, they thought he would be the most capable in the future. Zhang Laosan often boasted in front of them, was arrogant, and usually looked down on them. Today, he lowered his posture to come to him to talk, so he must have taken a liking to Liu Chunxiang. No wonder Liu Chunxiang, young and beautiful, had set his sights on him.

To avoid any ambiguity, Yang Yu could only perfunctorily introduce Liu Chunxiang, "She's from my mother's village and my sister." Then, she said to Liu Chunxiang, "Chunxiang, this is Zhang Laosan. My parents-in-law usually call him Sanmao." After a casual remark, Yang Yu didn't go into detail. She didn't want her sisters to be abducted by someone like Zhang Laosan.

When Zhang's mother heard this, she grinned with joy and said, "Chunxiang, our third son, is a very sweet-spoken boy, and he does things decisively. You should get to know him better."

She didn't want to say it too directly, so she gave Lao San a look. Zhang Lao San immediately understood and became warm and said, "Hello, just call me Sanmao. Chunxiang, your name is really nice."

After listening to the boy's words, Liu Chunxiang turned around and took a good look at the boy sitting next to him. He found that this was the boy who had just given him wild fruits.

Suddenly, he looked at him with some ease, and couldn't help but compare himself to Zhang Erfa, thinking to himself, this person is a head shorter than Brother Zhang, his features are not as handsome as Brother Zhang's, and overall he looks just okay. Judging from his performance just now, he speaks more cleverly than Brother Zhang. Thinking this way, it's not completely without advantages.

After coming back to her senses, she replied shyly, "Thank you, your name is nice too." Liu Chunxiang probably just said it for the sake of it and didn't care too much about whether it was true or not.

"Puchi" a laugh suddenly burst out, followed by uncontrollable laughter "His name is also nice? Sanmao, Sanmao, three hairs, hahahaha", it was the fifth brother, Zhang Sheng, who was restless even when eating.

This person is active by nature, speaks without thinking, and likes to stir up trouble. He is only about fourteen years old, but he often joins others in fights outside. He is very restless. Zhang's father and mother are helpless about his misbehavior.

He could only say to Liu Chunxiang awkwardly, "Chunxiang, don't listen to what this kid says, he has been a troublemaker since he was a child." After saying that, he slapped Zhang Sheng on the head, and Zhang Sheng had no choice but to shut up and lower his head to eat.

After dinner, Zhang Laosan took advantage of the time when Yang Yu was cleaning up and kept talking to Liu Chunxiang, "Chunxiang, I'll go with you later. Your second sister-in-law just got married and is not familiar with the village. I'll take you around! I know a place that's really fun."

Listening to Zhang Laosan's excited speech, Liu Chunxiang was also aroused, and he relaxed and started laughing.

In the kitchen, Zhang's mother watched her third son giggle at Liu Chunxiang's amusement. She smiled from ear to ear and said to Yang Yu, "Yu'er, look, they are such a perfect match. You are good sisters and from the same village. If she marries into the family in the future, she will be a companion for you." After saying that, she smiled happily to herself.

Yang Yu laughed inwardly. "What a good idea!" he thought. "He fooled me, and now he wants to fool my sisters. He's broke, and I don't know where he got the nerve to do that." He didn't show it, and ignored Zhang's mother's words. He just kept busy, hoping to take Liu Chunxiang out for a walk soon.

Finally, the work was done. Yang Yu couldn't wait to pull Liu Chunxiang away from Zhang Laosan and said, "Chunxiang, let's go. I'll take you for a walk." "Sister Yu'er, Brother Sanmao said he would take us to dig out bird nests. Let's take him with us. He must know the village better than us."

Seeing Zhang Laosan so quickly hooking up with Liu Chunxiang, Yang Yu glanced at Zhang Sanmao with a complicated expression. He raised an eyebrow at him. Yang Yu knew that overt opposition now would surely displease both parties, so he silently responded.
