I walk sideways in the game world

Chapter 99: Guardian of the Foreign City

The golden sword energy, like a mighty sword, fiercely ripped through the overcast sky. Sunlight pierced the clouds, a ray of hope, showering the war-torn land. Bathed in golden light, Ren Xiaoyao, like a god descending from heaven, led the last of the coalition forces in a desperate charge toward the imperial general.

"for freedom!"

"For home!"

Deafening roars echoed through the sky, and the eyes of the allied warriors gleamed with a gleam of determination to face death. They were warriors from different races and tribes, united for a common goal: to resist the invasion of the Empire.

Ren Xiaoyao led the charge, his longsword wielding the Grim Reaper's scythe, reaping the lives of his enemies. Behind him, Xia Lin wielded her staff, unleashing powerful magic to carve a bloody path for the coalition forces.

"Damn it! How dare these ants resist!" The imperial general's face turned livid as he watched the advancing coalition forces. He had never imagined that this army, which he had dismissed as a ragtag bunch, could actually unleash such formidable combat power.

"General, be careful!" exclaimed a deputy general.

I saw a sharp arrow with a sound of breaking through the air, heading straight for the face of the imperial general.

The imperial general snorted coldly, swung his sword, and cut the sharp arrow to the ground. However, this was just the beginning.

A hail of arrows shot out from the coalition forces like locusts, aiming directly at the imperial general on the platform.

"Protect the general!"

The imperial soldiers raised their shields and formed a human wall to try to block the dense rain of arrows.

However, they were not facing just ordinary arrows, but enchanted arrows cast with magic by Charlene.

boom! boom! boom!

A series of explosions sounded in the imperial army. The power of the enchanted arrows was far beyond their imagination, and they instantly tore through their defenses.

"Come on!"

The allied soldiers seized the opportunity and rushed towards the imperial army like a flood.

The imperial general fled the platform in disarray, protected by his personal guards. Without the general's command, the imperial army immediately fell into chaos and was completely defeated by the coalition forces.

Watching the fleeing imperial soldiers, the allied soldiers erupted in thunderous cheers. They had won, at least this battle.

"We won!" Xia Lin ran to Ren Xiaoyao excitedly, her face filled with the joy of victory.

Ren Xiaoyao did not relax his vigilance. He looked into the distance, his brows slightly furrowed. He knew that this was just the beginning. The main force of the empire had not yet appeared, and the real challenge was still to come.

Suddenly, there was a rapid sound of horse hooves. A messenger hurriedly ran to Ren Xiaoyao, knelt on one knee, and said in a hurried tone: "Report! His Royal Highness Prince Jin..."

"Report! His Royal Highness Prince Jin is... injured! Seriously injured!" The messenger was sweating profusely and spoke in a hurried tone, as if he was frightened.

"What?!" Charlene exclaimed, grabbing the messenger's arm. "Where is the injury? Is it serious?!"

Ren Xiaoyao's heart sank. Prince Jin was the prince of a foreign city-state and an indispensable and powerful general in the coalition forces. His safety was of paramount importance. "Take us to see it!"

Prince Jin was placed in a makeshift tent in the rear, his face pale and his breathing weak. His armor was shattered on his chest, and a deep wound that was so deep that the bone was visible was shocking. Blood had already stained the bandage red.

"Brother Xiaoyao..." Seeing Ren Xiaoyao and Xia Lin come in, Prince Jin tried to get up, but Xia Lin gently held him down, "You should rest well and don't move."

"It's all my fault. I underestimated the enemy..." Prince Jin's face was filled with self-blame. "If I hadn't been impulsive, I wouldn't have fallen into the Imperial General's trap..."

"Now is not the time to talk about this," Ren Xiaoyao patted his shoulder, "Just focus on recovering from your injuries. Leave the affairs of the empire to us."

"But..." Prince Jin wanted to say something, but was interrupted by a violent cough, and a trace of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.

Seeing this, Xia Lin quickly said, "Xiaoyao, let's send Prince Jin back to the foreign city first. The conditions here are poor and not conducive to his recovery."

Ren Xiaoyao nodded. He knew Xia Lin was right. Prince Jin's injuries were too severe, and he had to return to the city-state as soon as possible to receive better treatment.

"Sand Wolf King, Snow Girl!" Ren Xiaoyao walked out of the tent and shouted to the two leaders who were gathering the team.

"Pioneers!" The Sand Wolf King and the Snow Girl rushed over upon hearing the sound. Although they came from different races, they were surprisingly consistent in their stance against the empire.

"Prince Jin is injured, and we need to send him back to the foreign city-state," Ren Xiaoyao said quickly. "I'm leaving this up to you. You must stop the imperial army and buy us some time!"

"Don't worry, Pioneer!" The Sand Wolf King patted his chest and promised, "Even if we fight to the last drop of our blood, we will never let the imperial army cross the line of defense!"

"Please!" Ren Xiaoyao nodded solemnly, and then he and Xia Lin, carrying the seriously injured Prince Jin, rushed towards the foreign city-state under the escort of several personal guards.

As they watched them go, the Sand Wolf King and the Snow Girl exchanged a glance, each seeing a hint of solemnity in the other's eyes. They knew that the real test had just begun.

"Pass the order down, all soldiers, prepare for battle!" The Sand Wolf King shouted, his deep voice echoing throughout the camp, "Prepare to meet the enemy!"

The Snow Girl also waved the staff in her hand, and snowflakes began to fall from the sky, quickly forming an ice and snow barrier in front of the coalition forces, ready for battle.

As night fell, tiny flames flickered across the distant desert, signaling the approach of the imperial army. A fiercer battle was about to begin.

At the same time, in a hidden valley behind the coalition forces, an old man wearing a feather robe and a bone ornament on his head was sitting cross-legged. There were some strange instruments in front of him, and a mysterious atmosphere filled the air.

"Witch doctor, look..." A coalition soldier walked in anxiously and spread a map in front of the old man. "This is the marching route map of the Imperial Army that we just intercepted..."

The witch doctor slowly opened his eyes, a gleam of light flashing in his cloudy gaze. He stretched out his bony fingers and gently stroked the mark on the map, a meaningful smile curling his lips...

In the dim valley, only a faint firelight flickered, illuminating the witch doctor's wrinkled face. His cloudy eyes now gleamed with wisdom, as if seeing through everything. His bony fingers tapped gently on the map, each pause a pluck at the heartstrings.

"The Empire has changed their tactics this time. They want to divide and encircle the enemy..." The witch doctor's hoarse voice echoed in the valley, carrying a hint of solemnity. "Their goal is not only the front battlefield, but also to cut off the coalition's retreat."

"Then how should we respond?" the soldier asked anxiously, as if he would be swallowed by darkness in the next moment.

The witch doctor was silent for a moment, then a gleam of light flashed in his cloudy eyes. "Send the order. Have the Sand Wolf King change his defensive formation and concentrate his forces in the southwest, as that's the focus of the Imperial Army's attack. Also, send someone to notify the pioneers to be careful. The Empire may have set an ambush."

The soldiers took the order and left. The valley returned to silence again, with only the occasional crackling of flames, as if foreshadowing the coming storm.

Meanwhile, Ren Xiaoyao and Xia Lin were speeding through the desolate Gobi Desert with the seriously injured Prince Jin. To avoid the imperial army's pursuit, they had to choose this less traveled route, but danger also came with it.

"Xiaoyao, we have been gone for almost a day. Prince Jin's injury can't be delayed any longer." Xia Lin looked at the pale Prince Jin, her tone full of worry.

"Hold on a little longer. The Black Wind Canyon is ahead. You'll be safe once you pass it." Ren Xiaoyao comforted while observing his surroundings vigilantly.

However, just as they were about to enter the canyon, a burst of rapid horse hoofbeats suddenly came from the front, and then a group of imperial soldiers in black armor appeared in front of them. Leading them was the empire's famous "Blood Wolf General".

"Pioneer, we've been waiting for you for a long time." General Blood Wolf sneered, pointing his long sword at Ren Xiaoyao, "If you know what's good for you, surrender. I'll consider giving you a quick death."

"Hmph, you think you can stop us with just a bunch of you?" A cold light flashed in Ren Xiaoyao's eyes. He knew that a fierce battle was inevitable.

"Kill!" General Blood Wolf gave an order, and the imperial soldiers rushed in like a tide, surrounding Ren Xiaoyao and others.

Facing a powerful enemy, Ren Xiaoyao and Xia Lin stood back to back, showing no fear. Prince Jin struggled to stand up and join the battle, but was pulled back by Xia Lin.

"Prince Jin, protect yourself and leave this to us." Xia Lin said, waving the sword in her hand, and a sharp sword energy went straight towards General Blood Wolf.

"You are overestimating yourself!" General Blood Wolf snorted coldly, blocked with the long sword in his hand, and easily resolved Xia Lin's attack.

"Xiaoyao..." Xia Lin realized how powerful the other party was, and couldn't help but look at Ren Xiaoyao with some worry.

Ren Xiaoyao didn't say anything, but just patted the back of her hand gently, telling her not to worry, then took a deep breath and slowly closed his eyes...
