I walk sideways in the game world

Chapter 5: Pull back from the brink of collapse and see the light at the end of the tunnel

The flashing swords and shadows of the men in black intersected before his eyes. Ren Xiaoyao gritted his teeth, waved the sword in his hand, and tried his best to resist this violent attack.

His body was covered with wounds of varying sizes, and his clothes were stained with blood, but he still did not fall down, because there was still a belief in his heart that supported him - to survive and find the truth!

However, Ren Xiaoyao was eventually forced to the edge of a cliff due to being outnumbered. Behind him was a bottomless abyss, and in front of him were the enemies surrounding him. He was in a desperate situation.

"Give up resistance, Ren Xiaoyao!" The leading man in black sneered, "You have no way to escape!"

Ren Xiaoyao ignored him and just stared at the enemy in front of him, his eyes full of determination.

"Since you are still stubborn, don't blame us for being rude!" The man in black gave an order, and everyone prepared to rush forward and completely eliminate Ren Xiaoyao.

At this critical moment, a clear voice suddenly rang out: "Stop!"

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw that Xia Lin had appeared on a huge rock not far away.

"Ms. Charlene, what do you mean?" The leading man in black frowned slightly, with a hint of dissatisfaction in his tone.

"Brother Xiaoyao is innocent, you can't hurt him!" Xia Lin said loudly.

"Hmph, innocent? He is the man of destiny, entrusted with the responsibility of saving the world. How can he be innocent just because you say so?" The man in black said disdainfully.

"Destiny? Saving the world? Who told you that?" Xia Lin asked back, "You've all been deceived! Brother Xiaoyao isn't the one with destiny at all. He's just an ordinary person!"

"Nonsense!" The man in black waved his hand impatiently, "Come here, arrest her!"

Several men in black immediately responded and rushed towards Xia Lin.

"Brother Xiaoyao, let's go!" Xia Lin shouted anxiously.

Ren Xiaoyao watched this scene, his heart filled with emotion and guilt. He knew that Xia Lin had risked her life to come back for him. He couldn't let her take such a risk for him!

"Want to leave? Not that easy!" The man in black rushed to Ren Xiaoyao and slashed at him with a knife.

"Brother Xiaoyao, this way!" Xia Lin suddenly pointed at a vine on the edge of the cliff and shouted loudly.

Ren Xiaoyao understood what he meant, dodged the attack of the man in black, then jumped and grabbed the vine.

"Chase!" Seeing this, the man in black immediately took his men to chase after him.

Below the vines was a bottomless canyon. Ren Xiaoyao slid down the vines and finally stabilized his body on a protruding rock not far from the bottom of the valley.

He looked up and saw Charlene standing on the edge of the cliff, waving at him anxiously.

"Brother Xiaoyao, are you okay?" Xia Lin asked with concern.

"I'm fine." Ren Xiaoyao shook his head and asked, "How did you find this place?"

"I know a secret passage that leads here," Xia Lin replied. "It's well hidden here, they shouldn't be able to find us."

Ren Xiaoyao nodded, then looked around and found that this seemed to be the entrance to a cave.

"Let's go in and take a look." Xia Lin said, and walked into the cave first.

Ren Xiaoyao followed closely behind, and the two of them groped their way forward in the darkness.

"Wait," Ren Xiaoyao suddenly stopped, "Did you hear any sound?"

Charlene also stopped and listened carefully. After a moment, her expression changed slightly.

"It seems like someone is talking..."

The wind whistled in their ears. Ren Xiaoyao and Xia Lin held their breath, stepped lightly, and groped towards the source of the sound. The cave was pitch black, with only a faint moonlight streaming in from the cave entrance, dimly illuminating the path ahead.

"Be careful!" Ren Xiaoyao grabbed Xia Lin and protected her behind him. He saw a row of sharp blade traps gleaming on the ground ahead.

"It seems that this place is not simple." Xia Lin said in a low voice, with a hint of solemnity in her tone.

They carefully circumvented the traps and continued on their way. The further they went, the wider the cave became. Ancient patterns could be vaguely seen carved into the stone walls on both sides, giving it a mysterious atmosphere.

"These patterns..." Xia Lin carefully identified them in the dim light. "They look like ancient characters, but I've never seen them before."

Ren Xiaoyao also came forward to observe and found that the lines of these patterns were complex and full of power, as if they contained some kind of mysterious power.

"Perhaps, the truth we want to know is hidden here." Ren Xiaoyao said in a deep voice.

Just as he finished speaking, there was a sudden "click" sound from the front, and then the torches on the stone walls on both sides ignited automatically, illuminating the entire cave.

"Be careful!" Ren Xiaoyao pushed Xia Lin away, only to see a thick wooden stake falling from above his head, hitting the ground heavily and stirring up a cloud of dust.

"It seems we have triggered a mechanism." Xia Lin said in shock.

"Don't worry, I will protect you." Ren Xiaoyao gripped the sword tightly in his hand and looked around vigilantly.

Next, they encountered a series of traps, including hidden arrows, rolling stones, and even a poisonous snake slithering out from the corner. However, thanks to Ren Xiaoyao's quick reaction and Xia Lin's familiarity with the terrain, they were able to resolve them one by one.

Finally, after passing through a long and narrow passage, they came to a spacious cave. In the center of the cave stood a stone table, on which lay an ancient book.

"What is that?" Charlene asked, pointing at the books.

Ren Xiaoyao walked forward and carefully opened the book, and found that it was filled with densely packed text, the handwriting was ancient and unfamiliar.

"This looks like..." Ren Xiaoyao examined it carefully, "a diary?"

"Diary?" Charlene leaned forward. "Whose diary is it?"

Ren Xiaoyao did not answer, but continued to flip through the diary. He saw the following sentence written on the first page:

"I have recorded everything in this world in this diary..."

"I've recorded everything in this world in this diary..." Ren Xiaoyao muttered to himself, turning to the next page. The diary paper was yellowed, but the handwriting was clearly visible, revealing a sense of vicissitudes and helplessness between the lines.

The owner of the diary recorded the origin of the game world in detail, a story about gods, power, and betrayal. It turns out that this world was not originally a game, but a paradise created by a powerful god.

However, the god's most trusted disciple coveted his power and eventually launched a rebellion, sealing the god and distorting the paradise into the game world we see today.

"So... this is the truth..." Charlene covered her mouth, her eyes filled with shock. The secrets recorded in the diary were so shocking that they overturned their understanding of the world.

"It seems we've stumbled upon a terrible secret." Ren Xiaoyao closed the diary, his expression solemn. He knew that if this diary were leaked, it would cause an uproar.

"We have to leave here!" Xia Lin realized the seriousness of the situation and pulled Ren Xiaoyao to leave. However, it was too late.

"Want to leave? Not so easy!" A deep voice echoed in the cave, carrying a chilling sense of oppression. A figure wearing a black cloak, his face hidden in the shadows, slowly emerged from the depths of the cave, each step seeming to trample on people's hearts.

"Who are you?" Ren Xiaoyao protected Xia Lin behind him and asked vigilantly.

"Haha, it's okay to tell you." The black shadow sneered, "I am the Lord of Shadows. This diary is mine!"

"Don't even think about it!" Ren Xiaoyao drew his sword and pointed it at the Lord of Shadows. "If you want the diary, you'll have to step over my dead body!"

"You are overestimating yourself!" A cold light flashed in the eyes of the Lord of Shadows, and a powerful pressure instantly enveloped the entire cave.

"Hurry up!" Ren Xiaoyao shouted, pushing Xia Lin towards the cave entrance. He knew that with his current strength, he could never be a match for the Lord of Shadows.

"Want to leave? Dream on!" The Lord of Shadows flashed and instantly appeared in front of Xia Lin, his five fingers forming claws and grabbing towards her throat.

At the critical moment, Ren Xiaoyao threw the sword in his hand with all his might, forcing the Lord of Shadow to retreat. "Quick! Now is the time!"

Xia Lin knew this was no time to hesitate, so she turned and ran out of the cave. Ren Xiaoyao followed closely behind, and the two of them ran wildly through the narrow passage. The Shadow Lord was in hot pursuit, and his powerful force shook the cave to the point of collapse.

"Hurry, over there!" Charlene shouted as they reached the fork in the road, pointing to one of the passages. It was the secret passage they had discovered when they arrived, and it was very well hidden.

The two rushed into the secret passage without hesitation, and the Shadow Lord's angry roar came from behind them. At the critical moment, Ren Xiaoyao pulled the mechanism, and a huge rock fell, sealing the secret passage.

"We...should be safe, right?" Charlene said breathlessly, her face pale.

"It's safe for now." Ren Xiaoyao said solemnly, "But, this is just the beginning..."
