After the separation, I took my whole family to eat delicious food and drink spicy
Chapter 49: What are you going to do with such a big fish?
During lunch, Li Xiaoxiao said to Mrs. Bai, "Mom, didn't we say we were going to catch some chicks and ducklings to raise? September is almost here, so if we catch them now and raise them until Chinese New Year, they should be good enough to eat. If possible, we could also catch a piglet and raise them together to make bacon for Chinese New Year."
After hearing what Li Xiaoxiao said, Mrs. Bai nodded and said, "Okay, then I'll go to the market with you this afternoon."
"Mom, sister, after we catch the chicks and ducklings, can Linlin and I be responsible for feeding them?" Li Fang asked excitedly.
"Of course you can. I've seen you two take good care of the rabbits. Once we get the chicks and ducklings home, you'll be responsible for feeding them every day," Bai agreed. Li Xiaoxiao also smiled in agreement.
Li Fang and Li Linlin were very happy to see that everyone agreed.
After dinner, Bai took Li Xiaoxiao and her two siblings to the market. The market was bustling with all kinds of poultry and livestock.
They walked around for a while and finally picked out eight chicks, three ducklings, and a chubby piglet, spending more than one or two taels of silver.
Li Xiaoxiao and the other two happily carried the cage and followed Bai home.
Along the way, Li Fang and Li Linlin were thinking about taking good care of these little guys in the future and letting them grow up quickly.
After arriving home, Mrs. Bai found an old cage in the utility room and placed the chicks and ducklings inside. She also prepared some brown rice and water for them. The chicks and ducklings chirped and looked very happy. Li Fang and Li Linlin squatted nearby, watching them intently.
"Don't just stand there and watch. Go get some food for the chicks and ducklings," Mrs. Bai said with a smile.
"Okay!" Li Fang responded, pulling Li Linlin out. A moment later, the two returned with some vegetable leaves, chopped them up, and fed them to the chicks and ducklings. Seeing the chicks and ducklings eating with such gusto, the two were overjoyed.
"Go get some food for the piglets later," Mrs. Bai reminded.
"I know, Mom!" Li Xiaoxiao replied.
Afterwards, the family worked hard to build a nest for the piglet so that it could sleep peacefully. By the time they finished everything, it was almost dark.
"It's been a really busy day today." Mrs. Bai said, patting her waist.
"But I'm also very happy because our family has so many new members." Li Xiaoxiao said with a smile.
Everyone is looking forward to these little animals growing up healthily and bringing more vitality and energy to the home.
In the evening, the family sat around the dinner table.
"When these chicks and ducklings grow up, they will be able to lay eggs. Then we will have chicken and duck eggs to eat." Bai said happily.
"And the little piglet. When it grows up, we can eat delicious pork." Li Fang licked his lips.
"Haha, then you must take good care of them." Bai said with a smile.
"Yes, we will!" Li Xiaoxiao and Li Linlin answered in unison.
After dinner, Mrs. Bai took the children to feed the animals. Watching them eat happily, Mrs. Bai felt extremely satisfied.
"I hope our lives can get better and better, just like these little animals," Bai said softly. The children nodded, their eyes filled with longing for the future.
The next morning, after Li Xiaoxiao had breakfast, she went to tidy up the vegetable garden. Now all the vegetables in the garden were ready to eat.
She planned to pick some fresh vegetables to sell in town. Li Xiaoxiao, bent over, busily worked in the vegetable garden. Soon, she had gathered a large basket of veggies: lush green vegetables, bright red tomatoes, purple eggplants, and more. Looking at the fruits of her labor, Li Xiaoxiao smiled with satisfaction. She packed the vegetables into a bamboo basket and prepared to carry them to town. Just then, Li Fang and Li Linlin ran over.
"Sister, we also want to go to town with you." Li Fang said.
"Okay, but you have to be good and don't run around." Li Xiaoxiao reminded.
So, the three siblings, carrying their vegetables, walked towards the town together. They chatted and laughed along the way, and soon arrived in town. Li Xiaoxiao found a suitable spot and displayed the vegetables. It wasn't long before customers came to inquire about the prices.
"Little girl, how much do you sell these vegetables for?" asked an aunt.
"Auntie, these vegetables are all grown by us. They are very fresh. You can buy them with confidence." Li Xiaoxiao answered enthusiastically.
The aunt looked at the vegetables and thought they were great, so she bought some. Then, other customers came in one after another, and soon, all of Li Xiaoxiao's vegetables were sold out.
Li Xiaoxiao counted the money he earned from selling vegetables, and it was exactly one hundred and twenty coins.
She patted her brother and sister's head happily and said, "Come on, let's go buy some meat and bring it home to make a meal for everyone."
The three of them came to the meat stall and chose a piece of pork belly with alternating fat and lean meat.
The stall owner weighed it and quoted a price: "Twenty-two cents."
Li Xiaoxiao paid the money, took the meat, and felt very happy.
She thought she could make a dish of braised pork in the evening for her family to try.
While strolling around, Li Xiaoxiao noticed an old man selling a basket of fresh grass carp. Li Xiaoxiao instantly remembered the modern-day chopped pepper fish head and pickled fish, and her mouth watered. "Uncle, how much are your grass carp?"
"Little girl, if you want to buy some, I'll give you seven cents per pound, how about that?" the fishmongering uncle said enthusiastically.
I heard it's only seven cents per pound, which is much more cost-effective than eating meat. "Uncle, please pick a bigger one for me."
"Okay!" When the uncle heard Li Xiaoxiao wanted to buy something, he put the bucket directly on the street next to him, picked out the largest grass carp for Li Xiaoxiao, weighed it, and it was eight kilograms. Li Xiaoxiao readily paid fifty-six cents to the uncle. The uncle strung the grass carp with a straw rope and handed it to Li Xiaoxiao.
Li Xiaoxiao put the grass carp in the backpack and went home with Li Fang and Li Linlin.
After returning home, Mrs. Bai was shocked to see that Li Xiaoxiao had bought such a big fish. "Xiaoxiao, why did you buy such a big fish? We can't finish it. Besides, if the fish is not cooked well, it will easily become fishy."
Li Xiaoxiao smiled and said, "Mom, don't worry, I can cook the fish very deliciously. I guarantee you will all say it's delicious after eating it."
