College Competition (IV)

On the day of the semi-finals, the sun seemed to sense the intense atmosphere within the arena, growing ever hotter, mercilessly scorching the ground. The stands surrounding the arena were already packed, the audience's passion akin to a blazing flame, their shouts and cheers mingling and resonating in the air.

Carl stood at one side of the arena, facing the academy's star student, Allen. Allen stood tall and straight, his eyes radiating confidence and arrogance. He wore a magnificent robe, the magical patterns on it shimmering with the fluctuations of his magic power, demonstrating his immense strength. His appearance caused a stir in the audience.

"Look, it's Alan! He's the favorite to win!"

“I’m afraid Karl is going to be in big trouble this time.”

The bell rang for the match, and Alan launched his attack. He raised his wand with both hands and chanted a long, complex spell. A powerful magical force instantly gathered around him. The sky was covered with dark clouds, and lightning and thunder flashed within the clouds. Then, bolts of lightning, as thick as giant pythons, rained down on Carl. The lightning split the sky with a deafening roar, as if threatening to tear the world apart.

Carl's face was grim. He flashed and quickly cast a wind spell. A fierce wind howled around him, attempting to divert the lightning. However, Allen's magic was so powerful that some of the lightning broke through the wind and struck Carl. Carl quickly erected an earth magic barrier in front of him. The lightning struck the barrier, sending up a shower of dust and sparks. Carl was knocked back several steps by the powerful impact.

"Hmph, Carl, is that all you've got?" Allen sneered and launched another attack. This time, he unleashed fire magic, sending a massive fireball hurtling towards Carl like a meteor. Wherever the fireball touched, the air distorted and the ground scorched black.

Carl knew he couldn't remain passively on the defensive any longer. He focused his energy and began to counterattack. He fused water and ice elements, creating cones of ice that he fired at the fireball. As the cones collided with the fireball, a sizzling sound erupted, and steam filled the air. But Allen's attacks were relentless, and Carl gradually became passive. His magical defenses began to crack under Allen's powerful firepower.

"Come on, Carl!" Leo shouted loudly in the audience, his voice a little hoarse.

"Carl, you can do it!" Ellie also waved the magic flag in her hand to cheer for Carl.

Carl heard his companions' cries, and a surge of strength surged within him. He took a deep breath, calmed himself, and began to carefully observe the rhythm of Allen's attacks. He discovered that although Allen's magic power was powerful, there were extremely short intervals between each attack.

Carl seized the opportunity, and while Allen was about to launch another attack, he unleashed a unique combination of magic. He first used the light element to create a dazzling beam of light, which instantly blinded Allen and caused his attack to pause for a moment. Then, Carl quickly cast a spatial magic, his figure vanishing from the spot and appearing behind Allen.

Alan sensed the danger and turned hastily, but it was too late. Carl cast an attack spell that combined wind, thunder, and fire. Powerful magical energy swept towards Alan. Alan quickly cast a shield spell, but Carl's attack still broke through his shield and knocked him away.

"Ahem..." Allen got up from the ground in a mess, his eyes full of surprise and anger, "You guy, you actually managed to hurt me."

"The game isn't over yet," Carl said, his eyes firm and confident.

Furious and humiliated, Alan unleashed his most powerful spell—Elemental Storm. He channeled all his magical energy into it, sending the surrounding elements into a frenzy. Seven elements—wind, fire, water, earth, thunder, light, and darkness—intertwined and collided, forming a massive storm. The energy at the center of the storm swirled like a vortex, devouring everything around it and sweeping towards Carl.

Carl couldn't help but feel a flicker of fear as he watched the powerful elemental storm. But he knew this was a crucial moment, decisive for victory or defeat, and he couldn't retreat. He closed his eyes, summoning all the magic within him, while recalling ancient texts on how to deal with elemental chaos.

Suddenly, Carl opened his eyes, a strange light glimmering in them. He began to draw a massive magic circle around himself. This magic circle was a fusion of various ancient runes, created by Carl based on his understanding of the elements of magic. Once the magic circle was complete, Carl continuously poured his own magic power into it.

The elemental storm drew closer, its powerful suction and destructive force causing the entire arena to tremble. Just as the storm was about to engulf Carl, his magic circle erupted with a brilliant light. This light countered the elemental storm, disintegrating and absorbing its energy wherever it passed.

"This... How is this possible?" Alan widened his eyes. He couldn't believe that his strongest magic was blocked by Carl.

Carl ignored Allen's shock and continued to increase his magic output. The magic circle's light grew stronger, gradually suppressing the elemental storm. Finally, with a loud bang, the elemental storm was completely dissipated, transforming into a sky full of elemental light points, which spread across the arena like beautiful fireworks.

Allen knelt on one knee due to excessive consumption of magic power, his face as pale as paper. Although Carl was also exhausted, he still forced himself to walk towards Allen.

"You lose," Carl said.

Allen gritted his teeth and finally lowered his head: "You win, Karl, you are stronger than I thought."

"Carl wins!" The referee's voice echoed across the arena. The audience fell silent for a moment, then erupted in thunderous applause and cheers. They were deeply moved by this brilliant match, and Carl's name was etched in everyone's memory at that moment.

Carl walked off the arena and his friends immediately surrounded him.

"Karl, you're amazing! How did you do it?" Leo asked excitedly.

"Yeah, that magic circle is amazing!" Ellie was also amazed.

"I simply found a way to deal with his attacks based on my understanding and control of magical elements." Carl replied with a smile. His voice was a little weak, but his eyes were filled with satisfaction.

During the match, Carl noticed some peculiar changes in Allen's attack magic. These changes were very subtle and could easily be overlooked without careful observation. However, Carl keenly perceived that these changes were similar to a form of mutated magic he had encountered in his previous life while studying advanced magic.

Back then, during his previous life's magical research, he had discovered a record of this type of mutated magic in an ancient, tattered tome. The tome described this form of magic as arising under specific circumstances and conditions, with unique magical fluctuations and attack methods. Now, witnessing this similar change in Allen's attack magic again, Carl fell into deep thought.

"What secrets does this world's magic system hold? Why would the mutated magic of my previous life reappear in a similar form in this life?" Carl pondered in his heart, and he realized that the magic of this world was far more complex and mysterious than he had imagined.

This semi-final victory made Carl the focus of the school. Both teachers and students were talking about his wonderful performance in the game.

"Karl's magical talent is truly amazing. His understanding and application of magical elements have reached a very high level." A teacher was discussing with colleagues in the office.

"Yes, he was able to remain calm and come up with a way to deal with such a powerful opponent. This is not something that ordinary students can do." Another teacher nodded in agreement.

In the college cafeteria, students were also talking about Karl.

"Did you see what Carl did in the semifinals? He was so cool!"

"I think he will definitely win the final."

But Carl was not carried away by the praise. He knew that the finals would be even more difficult and he needed to prepare even harder. He looked up information in the library every day, researching new magic, and also constantly honed his skills on the training ground.

During a training session, Carl tried to apply a new way of fusing magical elements into actual combat, and his companions became his sparring partners.

"Carl, it seems like your magic has undergone new changes this time." Leo said while practicing with Carl.

"Well, I'm trying some new things that I hope will work in the finals," Karl replied.

"Then we have to be careful, your new magic is quite powerful." Ellie said with a smile.

During his training, Carl encountered some challenges. While the new fusion of magical elements was powerful, it also consumed a significant amount of mana and was difficult to control. Several times, Carl was injured due to his uncontrolled magic.

"Carl, don't try too hard. It's too dangerous." Leo looked at the injured Carl and said distressedly.

"It's okay, I'll find a way to control it." Carl said firmly, his eyes revealing determination.

After continuous attempts and adjustments, Carl gradually mastered the control techniques of the new magic, and his strength was further improved.

In the last few days before the finals, Carl also visited several teachers who had in-depth research on magic to ask them for advice on some possible situations and coping methods in the finals.

"Carl, your opponent in the final will definitely be tough. You must be fully prepared," a teacher warned.

"I know, teacher. I would like to ask you, if I encounter an opponent with more powerful magic than me, how should I deal with it?" Carl asked.

The teacher thought for a moment and replied, "You should be good at exploiting your opponent's weaknesses and avoid a head-on battle of magic power. You can disrupt your opponent's rhythm through clever magic combinations and tactics."

Carl listened carefully to the teacher's advice and took it to heart. He knew that the final was his last battle in this college competition and he had to give it his all.

The day of the finals finally arrived, and the entire academy was immersed in an atmosphere of tension and excitement. Carl, clad in neat wizard robes and holding his wand, walked towards the arena. His eyes were firm and confident; he was ready for the final challenge. In his heart, his thoughts and questions about the system of magic became his driving force. He longed to not only win this final, but also to discover some clue to the secrets of magic.
