Chapter 33 Fire Scorpion and Giant Snake
Without a clear understanding of the ghost's characteristics, he would never rashly explore it. After all, in the Dark Forest, towering ancient trees blocked out the sun, and a gloomy mist swirled around like a veil. The ghosts and most of the ferocious beasts here had never been fully and comprehensively documented, so simply having their names and images was a real achievement.
Because of this, Zhang Qiang had only hunted the Crimson-Blooded Centipede throughout his journey, avoiding all other beasts. "Alas, facing these unknown and powerful beasts, I dare not act rashly. If I lose my life, it's all over..." Zhang Qiang thought to himself. Perhaps the only relatively low-level creatures at this moment were the Crimson-Blooded Centipede and the flying bats he'd seen when he first entered the forest. The Crimson-Blooded Centipede was a Level 5 demonic beast, and the flying bat was estimated to be around Level 4.
The deeper into the forest, the quieter it grew. Tall trees stood upright like ancient guardians, their lush branches interwoven into a dense shade. Sunlight struggled to penetrate, casting thin beams of light. The ground was covered with thick fallen leaves, which rustled underfoot. The occasional chirping of unknown insects in the grass made one feel alert. "This forest gets scarier the deeper we go. I wonder if I can find a way to avoid the ghosts..." Zhang Qiang muttered to himself as he cautiously advanced. The aura of the ferocious beasts grew stronger. The aura of the black snake, the shadow spider, and others was much stronger than that of the red-blood centipede.
"How do the beasts here avoid ghosts? I need to find one and observe, and emulate their methods. Otherwise, I'll be lost for where to rest this night. Walking won't work..." He pondered this as he continued deeper into the forest. Dappled light and shadow danced across his body, like mysterious guidance, but Zhang Qiang had no time to admire them. His mind was consumed by anxiety about how to survive in this dangerous place.
A quarter of an hour later, Zhang Qiang spotted another giant black python, similar to the previous one. This one, however, was coiled in a cave at the foot of the mountain! The surrounding weeds swayed gently in the breeze, as if telling a hidden secret. The rocks were jagged, some sharp as fangs, others as tranquil as crouching beasts. A playful smile crossed Zhang Qiang's face. "Hey, it's you! I hope I can find some useful clues from you." With a soft "Open...", a passage wide enough for one person slowly appeared on the mountainside above the giant black python's cave, appearing silently...
Immediately afterwards, Zhang Qiang dodged and appeared in the stone cave at the end of the passage. The stone cave Zhang Qiang opened happened to be more than a hundred feet above the snake cave. He then used his spiritual sense to control the rock molecules at the entrance, quietly disguising the cave entrance. He also opened several hidden holes for observation.
Having been terrified by the appearance of the phantom Golden Eagle Ancestor, Zhang Qiang didn't want to experience that fear again. "I have to be extremely careful this time. No more mistakes..." After doing all this, Zhang Qiang kindly placed a large directional arrow above the entrance to the black python's cave, pointing to the snake's lair. "I wonder if these directional arrows, so common on Earth, will work here... Let's see if these ghosts will attack the beasts... and how..." With this, Zhang Qiang sat down cross-legged in the newly opened cave, his mind focused, his consciousness constantly activated, closely observing the python's every move.
Fortunately, the black python didn't notice anything unusual and remained coiled motionless in the cave. The surrounding stone walls were damp and cold, emitting a hint of chill. Zhang Qiang calmed down and meditated, absorbing spiritual energy to cultivate. As time passed, the black spiritual energy in the air gradually became thicker. Through the observation hole, Zhang Qiang could clearly see all kinds of ghosts moving around. There were spiders, scorpions, and even snails. The sky was also full of various flying ghosts: bats, various birds, and even winged centipedes. They lit up with a variety of colors, even more spectacular than the lantern shows on Earth! At this time, the dim moonlight shone through the thick clouds, casting a faint glow, making this mysterious area even more eerie.
Just as Zhang Qiang was lost in thought, a fiery ghost scorpion crept up from the foot of the mountain. Its body was pitch black, as if bred from the deepest darkness. Its massive, thick claws resembled two razor-sharp sickles, gleaming with a chilling coldness. The teeth on its claws were sharp and dense, seemingly capable of tearing through anything with ease. Its tail was raised high, its sharp barb tipped like a deadly spear, gleaming with a faint blue light that sent a chill down its spines. Its carapace was impenetrable, each lamella gleaming with a mysterious luster, as if forged from the strongest metal. The pale blue flames enveloping it shone with a perpetually pulsing and swaying aura, lending it an air of mystery and terror. Though only a dozen feet long, Zhang Qiang sensed that this fiery scorpion was immensely powerful. As it staggered closer to the mountain, the surrounding grass withered and curled in its flames, and the stones on the ground seemed to be melting in the intense heat. The other ghosts around seemed frightened and were deliberately avoiding it.
As it approached, Zhang Qiang's nerves began to tense up, and he activated his spiritual sense to the fullest. This was not to observe the fire scorpion's movements, but to be ready to open a passage to the black giant snake's cave at any time. If the fire scorpion came towards him, he would open the passage without hesitation and enter the black giant python's cave at the first opportunity! This distance of more than 100 feet was the maximum distance that Zhang Qiang's spiritual sense could control the separation of molecules.
As the saying goes, when the sky falls, the tallest ones hold it up first. Even if the black snake couldn't hold it up, holding it out for a while would be good. He'd rather die inside the snake's belly if that didn't work out. At least his body wouldn't be torn to pieces, Zhang Qiang thought to himself as he closely observed the fire scorpion's every move.
As if sensing an unfamiliar presence, the Fire Scorpion couldn't help but look up in Zhang Qiang's direction. "Have we been discovered?" Zhang Qiang suddenly felt the urge to urinate, a feeling he couldn't control. Those fiery red eyes, the iron hook gleaming coldly in mid-air, the shiny black armor shrouded in pale blue flames...every aspect of it betrayed its terrifying presence.
