Chapter 20 Ghost-faced Spider and Bull

After devouring their feast, the group rested, sitting cross-legged to recover their energy. Time passed slowly until midnight, when each of them emerged from their trance. Silence reigned, broken only by the occasional chirping of insects.

After carefully analyzing the route, they flew along, skimming the surface of the water. A gentle breeze blew across the water, creating ripples. From then on, the patrolling monks they encountered became increasingly rare, and their flight speed increased accordingly. No longer was there any need to carefully sneak through the jungle, occasionally absorbing a few primary spirit stones.

The closer they got to the Dark Forest, the harder it was to find any trace of the human monks. The trees grew taller, blocking out the sun like giant green umbrellas, shrouding the ground in darkness. The sunlight reaching the ground grew scarcer, and the air was filled with a damp, decaying smell. The creatures flying in the sky and crawling underground grew larger, their auras growing stronger, forcing the group to be on high alert.

"Junior Sister... Are you sure Master sent us to this damned place? I feel like any creepy crawly here could easily crush us to death. It would be even worse if it awakened its spiritual intelligence..." The eldest brother muttered, his voice filled with anxiety and fear, staring intently at the dark gray spider with a snow-white face beneath his feet. The spider was enormous, like a small hillock. Its dark gray body was covered with a hard carapace that shimmered with a cold luster, like a layer of icy armor. Its eight long legs were thick and powerful, like huge stone pillars, and the hairs on them stood up like steel needles, which was terrifying. Most terrifying of all was its face. Atop the snow-white mask-like pattern, two huge compound eyes gleamed blood-red, filled with coldness and cruelty. Sharp fangs protruded from its mouth, dripping with sickening venom.

"Shut up... This is a ghost-faced spider, a social animal! If we alarm the Ghost-faced Spider King, we will only become scraps in its teeth. Each spider king has a certain intelligence and a strong sense of territory. Once they determine that we are invading their territory, it will inevitably end in a fight to the death..." Ni Fang responded, her voice stern and urgent, and fine beads of sweat oozing from her forehead.

We had just reached the outer edge of the Dark Forest, and it was already so terrifying. It would probably take another five days to reach the forest location marked by Master Ni Fang, and the dangers along the way were imaginable. Everyone's mood grew heavier, as if they were being weighed down by an invisible boulder.

The black-robed captain climbed to the top of a large tree, his movements as nimble as an ape's. He waved his hand, signaling everyone to ascend. "Fly just above the treetops. I'll lead the way. There are more and more reptiles below! There are birds in the sky, and this area is the separation zone between flying and reptiles. With our size, we probably won't attract any birds, and the reptiles in the trees won't easily venture to this height to become food for the birds in the sky..." The captain spoke with a serious and solemn expression, flying at the front of the group, neither too fast nor too slow. One had to admire the Shadow Tribe's understanding of the forest environment, a valuable experience accumulated through their long struggle for survival.

The journey lasted a peaceful day and night, but the sense of security gradually faded with the encounters along the way. The captain's spiritual sense could reach over 500 feet. The moment he spotted the bird, before he could even alert the others, it had already soared overhead at astonishing speed. The bird's outstretched wings were like a dark cloud covering the sun, stirring up a gust of wind. If they had encountered a truly targeted bird, they wouldn't have had a chance to react. Helplessly, they found a relatively safe branch to rest and ponder their response. Everyone's faces were gloomy, their brows furrowed, their eyes filled with worry and uneasiness.

Zhang Qiang wasn't idle either. The reptiles and birds he encountered along the way constantly challenged his understanding of the world of immortal cultivation, leaving him feeling as if he were in another world. His eyes flickered between fear and confusion, as if his soul were lost in this bizarre world. As soon as everyone sat down, they noticed something was wrong with him. "Zhang Qiang... you..." Ni Fang asked, a hint of concern in her voice.

"I'm fine... I'm just scared... by the situation here..." As he said this, Zhang Qiang couldn't help scratching his head in embarrassment, a blush appearing on his face, and he looked like a child who had done something wrong.

"It's normal... Back then, I also disdained Immortal Brew. Now... besides practicing, my mind is completely focused on it... I've slowly gotten used to it." The eldest senior brother was busy smoothing things over for Zhang Qiang, gesticulating as he spoke. Afterward, he felt something was amiss. Glancing around, he saw several pairs of eyes fixed on him, their gazes piercing through him. Helplessly, he tactfully turned away, casually brushing away the leaves that blocked his view.

As the leaves fell, the tree seemed to be hit by something suddenly. The impact was as strong as thunder, and several people were almost knocked over and fell down.

"Damn... Such a big bull..." the eldest brother exclaimed.

Everyone looked at the bull, as if something in the tree was attracting it. As it took a few steps back, it crashed into the tree they were standing in. The bull's eyes were red, and hot air was gushing from its nostrils, like a moving mountain.

"This cow doesn't eat grass anymore. It's thinking about us! Is it eating meat instead?..." The eldest brother said seriously. His expression was very exaggerated, and his wide eyes were full of confusion.

Several people were speechless on the spot. This train of thought was truly extraordinary! Zhang Qiang recalled everything that had just happened. He hadn't seen the bull hit the tree for a long time since he came up. How could it hit it without any hesitation? The bull was huge, more than twenty feet long, its massive body like a towering mountain. But compared to this huge tree, it still seemed tiny. This didn't seem like a tickle...

"Leaves... Senior Brother, the leaves you threw irritated it! Let's go... who knows what this commotion might attract," Ni Fang said, preparing to take off. Her face was filled with anxiety, beads of sweat oozing from her forehead.

"Wait..." Zhang Qiang said, casually picking up a few more leaves and throwing them down. These leaves were as wide as two men, covered with upright thorns, sharp as needles, making one's head spin! As the leaves fell to the ground, the bull rushed to chew them like crazy, swallowing them in a few bites. The chewing sound was like thunder. After eating, it looked up at the tree again, howling and screaming, the sound was deafening, as if it was tearing the sky apart.

"As expected... This bull must have a special liking for this kind of leaves, but it just can't eat them. The eldest brother's unintentional action made the unintelligent bull think that the leaves had fallen on its own, and it tried to hit the tree to see if it could drop a few more leaves. I guess this action happens every day in this forest. Collect the leaves and lead it to send us to our destination!" Zhang Qiang said.
