Lock and secure

Chapter 12 Do it yourself

Luo Yao thought about going back to his parents' home tomorrow. He hadn't taken a bath since he entered the palace. If he had a miserable time when he went back to his parents' home, his grandfather would worry.

There was no firewood in the kitchen, not even a single piece, so Luo Yao couldn't use the kitchen.

But! It’s early summer now, hot during the day and cold at night, and the midday sun is enough to heat up the water!

Luo Yao fetched water from a broken wooden barrel, poured it into a wooden washbasin, and took it to the yard under the scorching sun to dry. He then went into the kitchen and got a larger wooden basin for washing vegetables to fetch water and also to dry it. At the same time, he also filled a broken wooden barrel with half a bucket of water and took it there to dry as well.

The sun was scorching at noon, and the two basins were not deep, so they became warm after a while.

Luo Yao grabbed Luo Xinchen, who was watching ants carrying bugs in the yard, and brought him over to take a bath.

Neither of them had any change of clothes. Luo Yao had one wedding suit and another one Bei Zhenting had thrown him. He had changed into the wedding suit in the main hall that day, and that was gone! Luo Xinchen only had the one he was wearing.

So, he and his brother only had one piece of clothing! Luo Yao felt very stupid. He had never noticed this problem before!

However, people in ancient times wore clothes one on top of another, and each piece of clothing had an inner lining and an outer layer. Luo Yao thought about this and came up with an idea.

"Brother, the water is warm!"

Luo Xinchen sat in the vegetable bowl and happily played with water with his hands.

Luo Yao carefully washed his body and then used the water in the basin to wash Luo Yao's hair. There was nothing, so Luo Yao directly grabbed the ashes from the kitchen fire! Ashes from burning wood are naturally considered as plant ash!

Rub one side of your hair with fine fire ash and then rinse it with clean water. Even if it is a simple cleaning, as the Princess of Yong'an, all that can be used in the courtyard has been emptied out, so this is the only way!

After washing his little brother and drying his hair, Luo Yao carried him into the house and gently placed him on the soft mattress. He carefully pulled the quilt over his brother, gently covering him to ensure he wouldn't catch a cold.

Luo Xinchen's hair was wet and hung over the edge of the bed. Luo Yao carefully wiped it with a towel, absorbing the moisture bit by bit. His fingers gently ran through his brother's hair, afraid to hurt him.

Seeing his brother being quiet and well-behaved, Luo Yao felt very relieved.

"Chenchen, lying like this with your hair dripping, wet hair will make you sick."

Luo Xinchen had never lay horizontally on the bed before, and he thought it was very fun, so he nodded obediently.

"Brother is taking a shower in the next room. When he's done, he'll wash the clothes and make you something nice."

What good stuff? Luo Xinchen blinked.

Luo Yao ignored him and went to the yard to pour some water from the wooden barrel into the washbasin, added cold water, and carried the water in the vegetable basin that had not been exposed to the sun for a long time into the house, leaving a little warm water in the bucket for washing his hair.

Luo Yao went into the inner room and took off his clothes. He had overestimated the temperature of the water. His hands were fine, but when a handful of cold water was poured on his body, it was very cold.

Luo Yao quickened his shower speed. His numb body adapted to the cold water and didn't feel so cold anymore.

After taking a shower, I took the water out and poured it away. The sun was about to set.

Luo Yao poured the water in the wooden barrel into the washbasin, and then fetched half a bucket of well water. Having long hair was a problem for people in ancient times. If there were no shampoo and foam, this amount of water would not be enough to wash their hair!

Luo Yao soaked his long hair, then grabbed a handful of fire ash and gently rubbed it. After a while, the dirt and grease on his hair were absorbed by the fire ash. Then, he washed it with clean water, rinsing away the fire ash. His hair became clean and refreshed.

Although this simple way of washing hair is not as sophisticated as modern shampoo, it makes Luo Yao feel very comfortable and at ease.

Luo Yao quickly packed up his own and his brother's clothes, and put the coats that came into direct contact with the outside environment and the small clothes that came into contact with the body into the vegetable bowl.

The inner garment does not come into direct contact with external dust, and it does not touch the body directly, so it is relatively clean and can be worn for the time being.

Next, he drew water from the well and poured some wood ash into it. Then, he began to scrub the clothes vigorously, allowing the wood ash to fully exert its cleaning effect.

After rubbing them several times, they rinsed the clothes with clean water and finally hung them on the low branches of the osmanthus tree next to the well to dry.

By the time he finished washing the clothes, the sun had already set. Yesterday, around this time, servants had brought in leftovers. But now, there were none, and Luo Yao had no expectations.

Luo Xinchen's hair was dry, and he was lying down obediently, almost falling asleep.

As soon as his brother entered the room, Luo Xinchen no longer felt sleepy.

“Brother, what’s this good thing?!”

He turned over and lay on the bed, supporting his face with his hands, looking at his brother with sparkling eyes. His brother said he would give him something good, but he didn't tell him what it was, so he was always curious!

Luo Yao covered his eyes when he saw his short hair, picked up the same red and gold hairband as Luo Xinchen's on the coffee table, and unskillfully tied a bun for Luo Xinchen, leaving a small ponytail.

"Brother will make you some clothes."

"Brother can make clothes?!" Luo Xinchen opened his eyes wide

"Aren't all the clothes bought?"

"Little fool, the clothes you buy are made by others. You don't think that clothes just appear out of thin air, do you?"

"Who did this?" Luo Xinchen became interested.

Luo Yao picked up the hair crown she wore at her wedding on the low table. The hair crown was decorated with very fine jewels, and the decorations were connected by very fine gold threads.

"Of course it was done by the embroiderer."

Luo Yao examined the interwoven gold threads and tested their hardness. As expected, they were just as he'd imagined. Ancient metallurgy was immature, making it difficult to create gold products free of impurities. Pure gold is relatively soft, leaving a mark with teeth. The alchemy technology of this dynasty was far from 21st-century standards. These fine gold threads, due to the presence of impurities, had a certain hardness.

Luo Yao followed the gold threads, checking for any "needle-like" strands. The threads intertwined in an orderly pattern. Along the crown, a row of gold threads connected to pearls, one end tapering, the other curved to a point where it met another small pearl. Given the harsh conditions, he had to make do.

Luo Yao plucked out the two connected tiny pearls and took some effort to pull out the golden needle.

He took the tablecloth and the wedding bed sheet, and used a valuable porcelain teacup as a blade.

Luo Yao thought about it for a while and came up with some styles one by one.

In ancient times, clothes did not require much sewing unless they were embroidered. Most ordinary clothes were simply made of spliced fabrics, and some were not even sewn but connected directly with "straps".

Luo Xinchen had already put on his undershirt and was lying on the edge of the bed, covered with a quilt, watching Luo Yao skillfully cut and sew.

One side of the tablecloth is black, the other side is festive. Luo Yao wanted to make clothes with a bit of a B-style. As a top student in the School of Design, he was very familiar with fashion design after participating in many fashion shows during college.

Luo Yao looked at the cut fabric and settled on a design idea. Ancient sleeves were too wide, making them inconvenient for active children. Luo Yao narrowed the cuffs and created a suit-like collar with a two-color lining, turned outward. Currently, only black and red are available. The sheets are soft, while the tablecloth is stiffer. The sleeves are red, as is the dress. The shoulders and collar are lined with black for added stiffness, and the hem is a combination of red and black.

Without a needle hole, Luo Yao could only draw with thread. The thread was a stronger black thread drawn from the tablecloth, and the drawing speed was much slower.

At the beginning, Luo Yao was not familiar with it and pricked his fingers several times.
