Demon Lord 3
Chapter 1023 A Kind Heart, Fang Chengzun
Standing at the foot of the mountain, we gazed at the distant mountains, which seemed to grow farther away, yet not closer. I began to wonder if what I was seeing was real or fake. Was it a paradise, forever beyond our reach, or a mirage, enchanting us? Ultimately, we learned that it was neither a mirage nor a paradise; it was simply reality, and we had simply been wandering back and forth at the foot of the mountain. When we found a map and discovered the true route, our enthusiasm reignited. We believed we would succeed this time; after all, we had found the map. This wasn't just some lucky escape; it was a deliberate bait from Providence, like a wolf drawn to the smell of sausage in the mountains. Could we say the sausage was fake? Or was the sausage's existence a fluke? Of course not. The sausage truly existed, and the wolf didn't know why it existed. But when the wolf saw the sausage, it couldn't help but run forward. There's actually another concept here: we're not wolves at all. We have independent thinking abilities. If we had turned back, wouldn't we have been trapped in that mountain? If we hadn't looked at the map, wouldn't we have been drawn there? When we finally find our ultimate goal, only to discover we've been on the wrong path for most of our lives, will we regret it? The result is inevitable, and of course we will regret it. All of this makes us regret our decision. We want to go back on that path, the path to our happiness. We can find our own happiness there, and we can experience different scenery there. But what can we do once we get there? We climbed to the top of the mountain, but all we saw was a pile of rubble, all we saw were those who had joined hands with us leaving one after another, and all we had gained after struggling for most of our lives. Now it has turned into a wisp of smoke, not even smoke, because smoke can still float upwards, while most of us have turned into dust, becoming worthless, so that we can’t find it even if we want to. Even if we find other people’s dust, it will cover our dust. When we understand the truth, there is no chance to repent, so the question is thrown to us again, if we are the person involved, what will we do? We try to escape this mountain, or we try to climb over it, only to discover throughout our lives that not only is it impossible to climb, but we've been looking in the wrong place. When I learned an allusion in elementary school, I could recite it, but when I learned the phrase "going in the opposite direction," I froze. I couldn't remember it. Perhaps the words were too difficult, or perhaps they were too harsh. Every time I learned this, I stopped wanting to study. I thought going in the opposite direction couldn't happen to me, that these two people were truly foolish. But when I truly understood the truth, I realized, aren't we all doing the same thing as those in the phrase "going in the opposite direction"? We want to head toward our goals, not seek our own happiness there. We want to lie low and do nothing, but we also want to rush to the front lines, paving a bright path for our future. We want all the honors and benefits, but we get them without any effort, engaging in hidden activities. Ask yourself: Who can guarantee that they haven't made a single mistake in their life? How many people have corrected their mistakes after doing something wrong? How many corrected them voluntarily? How many people relied on luck? How many people wanted to correct themselves but were led astray? People spend their entire lives striving to be respected, so a kind heart is what is respected. Here, when I say kindness, I don't mean allowing those who gain something for nothing to gain some benefits, nor do I mean providing some convenience for those people and doing so-called good deeds. Instead, I mean truly obeying our own hearts and doing something meaningful. Even if we only succeed in one thing in our lifetime, it must be a world-shaking event. We may work in obscurity for a lifetime, or we may do something world-shaking and be able to count on this halo for the rest of our lives. But no matter what, we should not do things that are so-called futile.
