Chapter 84 Hope in the Morning Light

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the windows. Lu Ling'er and Gu Yichen rose early to enjoy a hearty breakfast with Ji Yun, Gu Yazhu, and Ji Junche. While the table was filled with warmth, a hint of unease was evident on Ji Yun and his wife's faces. Ji Junche's condition hung like a dark cloud over their hearts.

After dinner, Lu Linger suggested going to the clinic to get some herbs for Ji Junche's medicinal bath. She told everyone that she and Gu Yichen would wait for Ji Junche at the south gate of the city that afternoon, and then return together to Gu Yichen's suburban home, the Shen Mansion. Ji Yun and Gu Yazhu agreed, but deep worry remained in their eyes.

After Lu Ling'er and Gu Yichen had finished their preparations, they headed to the Jishitang Clinic. Ji Yun and his wife, clearly worried about their youngest son, decided to go to the Shen Residence to accompany Ji Junche. While they used the excuse of helping with his illness, they truly didn't want to miss a moment with their son.

Arriving at Jishitang, Lu Linger approached the clinic's manager, Mo Xi, and inquired about the clinic's recent progress. Mo Xi, looking slightly grave, mentioned that while the clinic's patient count had decreased recently, some strange symptoms had recurred—several patients had developed unexplained high fevers and were profoundly weak, and other doctors couldn't pinpoint the cause. Lu Linger frowned, feeling a sense of unease, but she set these concerns aside for the time being, intending to investigate further after resolving Ji Junche's case.

Gu Yichen was in the warehouse, checking the medicinal materials and the accounts. He carefully inspected the quality of each herb, fearing even the slightest mistake. Lu Linger noticed his meticulousness and smiled to herself, unable to resist teasing, "Are you afraid I'll take the wrong medicine or spend money recklessly?"

Gu Yichen chuckled and shook his head. "This is for your uncle, so of course we have to make sure it's foolproof." Although he spoke lightly, a hint of worry flashed in his eyes. Lu Linger looked at him and knew that he, like her, was not taking Ji Junche's condition lightly.

Mo Xi quickly prepared the necessary herbs. Lu Ling'er thanked him gratefully and then went to the backyard to find Xuan Ping and Xuan An. She urged them to continue their martial arts and medical training, striving to become independent in the future. The two nodded earnestly, watching Lu Ling'er disappear into the courtyard, and silently resolved to do the same.

After arranging everything, Lu Linger and Gu Yichen left the clinic and headed to the south gate to wait for Ji Junche and the others. As they walked along, Gu Yichen couldn't help but smile bitterly, "It seems our world of two is about to be broken."

"What? Do you still want to monopolize me?" Lu Linger hit him with a smile, a hint of playfulness flashing in her eyes.

"I wouldn't dare, but... with you around, my life is indeed full." Gu Yichen sighed helplessly, but the tenderness in his eyes betrayed him.

Not long after they arrived at the South Gate, they saw Ji Yun and the others. Ji Yun and Gu Yazhu rode ahead, with a pale-faced Ji Junche sitting in the carriage. As soon as Ji Yun saw Lu Ling'er and Gu Yichen, he hurriedly dismounted and walked quickly over to them.

"Sorry for the long wait!" Ji Yun was slightly out of breath, but there was a smile on his face.

"It's okay, father. Are you here to see my uncle off?" Lu Linger was a little confused.

"We are worried about Ache, so we'd like to go with him to check it out. Ling'er, you don't mind, right?" Gu Yazhu said embarrassedly, but with anticipation in her eyes.

"What are you talking about, mother? My husband and I certainly welcome my parents and uncle to come along." Lu Linger answered sincerely.

Gu Yichen sighed silently beside him, feeling helpless: He clearly wanted to spend some time alone with Ling'er, but now he not only had to take care of his sick uncle, but also had to deal with these two stubborn parents. It seemed like there would be no peace and quiet from now on.

They all walked together toward the Shen Mansion outside the city. Along the way, Ji Yun frequently inquired about Ji Junche's condition. Though he tried to remain calm, his occasional nervousness made Lu Linger sense their inner anxiety. She explained the effects of the medicinal bath in as much detail as possible, but she also knew that true healing depended on the patient's reaction afterward.

"I hope this time we can completely solve Ache's drug problem and let him recover his health." Ji Yun's expression was a little helpless and his voice was low.

"Yes, thank you for your hard work." Gu Yazhu nodded slightly, her eyes unconsciously falling on Ji Junche's pale face.

Everyone finally arrived at the Shen Mansion. Mo Xian opened the door, and two wolf pets quickly ran out, circling around the group like long-lost friends. They obviously recognized these familiar figures and excitedly led everyone into the mansion.

"Father, Mother, you should still live in the previous rooms. Mo Yan, you should arrange for my uncle to live in the room next to theirs so that it will be easier for him to be looked after." Lu Linger made careful arrangements.

Everyone went into the main house to rest, and Gu Yichen led his parents and Ji Junche to the side room. Ji Junche lay in bed, his face even paler than before. Lu Linger frowned secretly, knowing that there was no time to delay, and went to prepare the medicinal bath.

She poured various precious herbs into the water, and the aroma gradually filled the room. As the liquid gradually boiled to a thick consistency, Lu Ling'er carefully poured it into the wooden barrel, adjusting the water temperature. Each movement was performed with extreme concentration, as if this wasn't just a treatment, but a salvation for life.

Ji Yun and his wife stood aside, silently watching Lu Ling'er's back, their hearts filled with gratitude and admiration. Gu Yazhu gently held Ji Yun's hand, and the two looked at each other tacitly. Ji Yun sighed softly, "What a good child."

Gu Yichen looked at the busy Lu Ling'er, his heart filled with pride and heartache. Although they had just gotten married, he knew that this smart and kind wife was destined to be the most precious companion in his life.

As the medicinal bath was ready, the entire Shen Mansion was filled with an atmosphere of anticipation. They hoped that the glimmer of light in the morning light would bring hope of recovery to Ji Junche.
