Chapter 79 Beautiful Ancient Architecture

Passing through the hanging flower gate, one arrives at the second courtyard, known as "Jingya Garden." This is the master's residence. The main room is tall and spacious, constructed of mahogany. A string of red lanterns hangs from the eaves. At night, the lanterns emit a soft glow, illuminating the entire courtyard, as if transported to the vast courtyard of an ancient mansion. Passing through the veranda, the wing rooms on either side of the main room come into view, where the family lives. Each room is spacious and bright, decorated in a simple yet elegant style. The rooms are furnished with a complete set of mahogany furniture, including tables, chairs, and beds, all intricately carved with patterns, giving them an antique charm and revealing the owner's taste and wealth.

Leaving the main house and walking along a veranda, one arrives at Jingya Courtyard. This courtyard, covering approximately three mu (approximately 1.5 acres), is surrounded by a wall, forming a self-contained space. The courtyard is paved with bluestone paving, lined with a variety of exotic flowers and plants, each vying for attention with its beauty. The lush greenery and fresh air create a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere.

Walking along the bluestone path to the end, you'll find a rockery covered in moss. Several springs flow through it, forming a small waterfall that cascades into the pool below, creating a shimmering, sparkling water. A few goldfish swim freely in the pool, adding a touch of life and vitality to the courtyard.

Walking around the rockery, you will see a small and exquisite pavilion, surrounded by green bamboos. The breeze blows through, and the bamboo leaves rustle. Sitting in the pavilion, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery in the distance and feel the tranquility and beauty of nature.

After leaving Jingya Courtyard, the group continued walking forward, passing through several moon-shaped gates, and finally arrived at the third courtyard, called Yixin Courtyard. This is the place where family gatherings and important events are held, and it is also one of the most lively places in the house.

Upon entering Yixin Garden, the first thing that catches your eye is a spacious and bright back hall. The back hall's elegant architecture, constructed from fine nanmu and mahogany, is magnificently decorated with carved beams and painted buildings. Famous calligraphy and paintings adorn the walls, adding a touch of literati flair.

In the center of the back hall stands a large round table, surrounded by several armchairs. On weekdays, families gather here for meals and enjoy the company of their loved ones. During major holidays or celebrations, the back hall is adorned with lanterns and colorful decorations, creating a festive atmosphere.

The backyard is located just outside the hall. It's much larger than the front yard and more beautifully decorated. In the center of the yard sits a small pond filled with lotus flowers, their leaves swaying in the breeze. Beside the pond stands a pavilion, known as the "Lotus Viewing Pavilion," offering the perfect spot for viewing the lotus blossoms.

In a corner of the backyard, there's a bamboo forest. The bamboo grows lushly and green year-round. A path through the bamboo forest provides a tranquil and pleasant stroll, as if you're in a fairyland.

In another corner of the backyard lies a garden, planted with a variety of colorful and fragrant flowers. The garden also features a rockery, planted with pine and cypress trees, ensuring an evergreen landscape. At the foot of the mountain lies a cave, from which flows a clear spring, which converges into a small pool. A stone bridge spans the pool, and at the end of the bridge stands an octagonal pavilion, known as the "Tingquan Pavilion." Sitting in the pavilion, one can hear the mesmerizing sound of the spring's water, its crisp, melodious rhythm intoxicating.

In the corner of the courtyard, there's a large, ancient tree with a thick trunk and lush branches. It's said to be over a century old, having witnessed the family's rise and fall. Beneath the tree, several stone tables and benches offer a perfect spot for the family to enjoy tea and chat during their free time.

As Lu Ling'er and the others entered the main room of the Shen Mansion, Ji Yun and Gu Yazhu took their seats, Gu Yichen and Lu Ling'er sat beside them, and Ji Junche stood aside, respectfully greeting everyone. Although this reunion brought the warmth of family, in Lu Ling'er's view, the history of this family and its twists and turns were already filled with complex emotions and stories.

Gu Yichen, the eldest son, was stolen years ago and has only recently been found. This background adds a sense of mystery to him, and his existence is clearly part of the family's reconstruction. As the fourth son of Prince Jing'an, Ji Junche now bears the responsibility of being the crown prince. Although he and Gu Yichen have very different personalities, the blood relationship between them is obvious.

Ji Junche walked up to Gu Yichen, smiled gently, and said gently: "Brother, it's been a long time since we last met. My parents have been thinking about you, and today we are finally reunited."

Gu Yichen, Lu Linger, Mo Yan, and Mo Xian looked at Ji Junche with complicated expressions. Lu Linger nervously stuttered, "Are you and your boyfriend going to meet in person? In disguise, right?" Her tone was filled with confusion and curiosity.
