The difficult path of cultivation for a grassroots female practitioner
Chapter 3 Finally able to communicate
Xiao Han looked at the cell in this different time and space with the dim light in the corridor.
A pile of dry grass, a toilet, the dark and damp ground, and the musty air—that was what she saw and felt now.
What sin had she committed that she had to experience ancient prison life firsthand?
Xiao Han, whose ropes had been untied, stood blankly in the cell, feeling that he had no desire to live anymore.
However, she was only twenty years old, and she couldn't bring herself to end her own life.
In the end, she could only take off her sandals and use them as a cushion, leaning against the aisle and the fence-like prison door, blaming the heavens and the earth, praying to all the gods and Buddhas to bless her to put them back on, and then falling asleep in a daze.
Xiao Han, who was sleeping extremely uncomfortably, was woken up by a sharp and fierce female voice.
"Oh, you're sleeping soundly."
Immediately afterwards, the lock on the cell door was opened. Before Xiao Han could stand up, he fell head over heels as the door he was leaning on opened.
A tall and strong middle-aged woman looked down at Xiao Han, and then pulled her up like a chicken.
At this moment, the daylight shone in through the small window at the top of the wall, allowing Xiao Han to clearly see the burly figure of the person in front of him.
After weighing the difference in strength between himself and the other party, Xiao Han honestly did not resist and let the other party touch him all over and search his body.
It was discovered that the young woman had nothing on her body except a small, blood-stained, oddly shaped object that looked a bit like a key, not a single gold, silver, or jewelry, not even a copper coin.
"Bah! So poor, no wonder he has to sleep on the street and get arrested."
The female warden pushed Xiao Han out while cursing.
Xiao Han was brought before a middle-aged man. After the female jailer's babble, the middle-aged man looked at Xiao Han and asked, "If you have money or relatives in the city, tell them and let them redeem you. Otherwise, you'll have to work to pay off the debt."
Unfortunately, Xiao Han, who didn't understand and was exhausted and wanted to give up, just shook his head to express his feelings.
The middle-aged man waved his hand and said, "Take her and give her to Aunt Lin."
The female jailer then took Xiao Han out of the prison and walked around many courtyards until they entered one.
Afterwards, the female warden brought Xiao Han to an old woman with neatly combed hair and a serious face.
The female prison boss who had a loud voice and a fierce face now spoke in a soft voice and with a smile on her face. She said a few words to the old woman and left in a hurry.
The old woman, known as Nanny Lin, looked at Xiao Han for a few times. Seeing that she was absent-minded and her eyes were dull, as if she was indifferent to everything in front of her, she frowned and said, "Is it because you don't know the curfew rules of Lingyun City, or is there something wrong at home?"
She felt that the young woman in front of her was most likely wandering the streets in despair because of an emotional dispute between a man and a woman, and was then arrested by the law enforcement team and thrown into jail.
Unfortunately, Xiao Han didn't understand her words and could only shake his head.
Nanny Lin couldn't help but mutter, "They are all stupid women. They are willing to die for men."
She still believed that Xiao Han must be in this state because of relationship problems.
When she said this, she changed her language, but Xiao Han suddenly turned his head to look at her, with a scorching light in his eyes.
"Are you talking about dying for a man?"
The words the old woman said just now sounded very much like the Fujian dialect. She had been in Fujian Province for five years. Although she could only speak simple sentences, she could understand most of what she heard.
The old woman saw that she suddenly shook off her decadence and looked at her with burning eyes. She asked inexplicably, "What do you mean?"
She spoke the same words as those people did before.
Xiao Han hurriedly said: "No, no, that's not the language you just spoke."
She spoke in a very unstandard Fujian dialect, but Aunt Lin seemed to understand what she meant, so she asked in a language similar to Fujian dialect, "What's wrong with you?"
Xiao Han understood this sentence completely and she almost cried for joy.
"I don't understand your language, so I can't communicate."
Although she used Mandarin for some of her words because she couldn't pronounce the Hokkien dialect, Aunt Lin still understood the general meaning.
One of them spoke in a language that was very similar to the Min dialect, while the other spoke in a stammering pseudo-Min dialect. After some communication, they could barely understand each other.
But in the end, Xiao Han still went to work honestly.
Because now, she has no better place to go than to work in the City Lord's Mansion to pay off her debts and earn money for three meals a day.
