Chapter 56 The Shadow Stalker's Threat

At the Forgotten Spring, sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of trees, dappling the tranquil waters, as if draping a golden veil over this time-forgotten secret realm. Yun Yi and Arya stood by the spring, whispering about their new discoveries, which they would soon report back to the academy. Their faces beamed with the joy of having discovered a treasure. However, this tranquility was short-lived as a chilling atmosphere quietly spread, interrupting their conversation.

"Be careful, something's happening." Yun Yi suddenly looked up, his sharp gaze piercing the gaps between the leaves, catching sight of several ghostly figures in the distance. His voice was low and firm, and his hand had quietly tightened around the longsword at his waist.

Arya whirled around at that, her longbow instantly drawn to full length, the arrow pointed directly at the quietly approaching figures. "Shadow stalkers?" she whispered, frowning, a hint of solemnity flashing in her eyes. As an elite archer in the academy, she was no stranger to these enemies skilled in stealth and assassination.

With a deep roar, the shadow stalkers finally emerged from the shadows, like a pack of wolves in the night, quickly surrounding Yun Yi and Arya. Their figures flickered in and out of the woods, as if blending into the surrounding darkness, making them elusive.

"Yun Yi, we must break out and notify the academy." There was unquestionable firmness in Arya's voice, and her eyes flashed with determination.

Yun Yi nodded, his eyes scanning the surroundings as he quickly formulated a breakout plan. "You go east, I'll go west. Draw their attention, and then we'll meet up at the academy's north gate," he ordered briefly and forcefully.

Arya nodded slightly without saying anything, then vanished into the eastern woods like a swift swallow. Yun Yi took a deep breath, unsheathed his sword, and pointed it forward, his eyes gleaming with fearlessness.

"Come, servants of the shadow!" he shouted, leaping up like a bolt of lightning, he charged at the nearest shadow stalker. His longsword slashed through the air in a dazzling arc, aiming for the enemy's throat. However, as if anticipating his move, the shadow stalkers dodged and attacked him from all sides.

Sword light and shadow intertwined, each clash accompanied by the crisp sound of metal clashing, echoing through the forest. Yun Yi's figure shuttled between the enemies, his sword skills were swift and fierce, and each swing of the sword was intended to kill with a single blow. However, the number of shadow stalkers was too great, they seemed endless, and time and again, they forced Yun Yi into a desperate situation.

"This isn't going to work," Yun Yi thought to himself. He knew he had to find a way out quickly. So, he deliberately exposed a flaw, luring a Shadow Stalker closer. Just as the enemy was about to succeed, Yun Yi suddenly turned and struck the enemy in the throat with a single blow, severing the enemy's throat.

"Arya!" He took advantage of the situation and shouted, trying to attract the enemy's attention and buy time for Arya to escape. Sure enough, the shadow stalkers rushed towards him and surrounded him.

Meanwhile, Arya faced a similar dilemma. Relying on her exceptional archery skills and agility, she darted through the trees, constantly shooting down the approaching enemies. However, the shadow stalkers were too numerous, and she soon began to feel exhausted.

"Yun Yi, you must return alive!" she muttered to herself, then made a bold decision. She quickly found a relatively open area, took a deep breath, and drew her longbow. The arrow drew a perfect arc through the air, heading straight for the distant signal tower.

"Boom!" With a loud bang, the fireworks on the signal tower shot up into the sky, illuminating the night sky with dazzling light. This was the academy's urgent call for help, meaning that reinforcements would be dispatched immediately.

Seeing this, Arya finally breathed a sigh of relief. She knew she had completed her mission. However, she didn't let her guard down. Instead, she observed her surroundings with even greater vigilance. She knew she had to protect herself and wait for Yun Yi's return before reinforcements arrived.

Meanwhile, Yun Yi was desperately trying to fight the Shadow Lurkers. His clothes were soaked with sweat, but his eyes were determined. He knew this battle wasn't just for his own survival, but also to expose the Shadow Council's conspiracy and protect the academy's safety.

"Come, servants of the shadow!" he shouted again, leaping upon the enemy like a tiger descending from a mountain. In this life-or-death struggle, his wisdom and courage were fully demonstrated. He exploited the terrain's advantages and the enemy's weaknesses, repeatedly escaping danger and turning peril into safety.

Finally, after a thrilling and fierce battle, Yun Yi, relying on his extraordinary strength and unremitting efforts, successfully escaped the siege of the Shadow Lurkers. He stood in the woods, covered in wounds, gasping for air, but his eyes were unusually bright. He knew that he had finally won this life-or-death battle.

At this moment, Arya was anxiously awaiting Yun Yi's return. Seeing Yun Yi, scarred but with a resolute gaze, she couldn't help but smile with relief. She knew that no matter how great the difficulties and challenges, Yun Yi would always find hope and overcome them with his wisdom and courage.

"We did it," Arya whispered, her voice filled with emotion and admiration. She took a few steps forward and stood shoulder to shoulder with Yun Yi, gazing out at the distant sky, which was about to usher in the dawn. In that moment, they both deeply understood the meaning of finding hope in adversity and the value of overcoming difficulties with wisdom and courage.
