Chapter 32: The Lost Walker on the Ancient Star Road
The Xingchen Ancient Road, like a sleeping dragon, winds its way through the mist-shrouded mountains, every inch of it exuding an ancient and mysterious aura. Yun Yi treads with firm steps, each a silent dialogue with the ancient road, a reverence for the unknown and a challenge to his own limits.
Sunlight filtered through the sparse clouds, dappling the ancient road, adding a touch of warmth to this lonely path. However, this tranquility did not last long. A burst of hurried and frantic footsteps shattered the surrounding silence, like a stone dropped into a calm lake, stirring up layers of ripples.
Yun Yi turned around suddenly and saw a ragged, haggard man stumbling towards him, his eyes filled with fear and despair. It was Jason, a traveler who also cherished dreams of adventure, but now seemed to be haunted by a nightmare.
“Brother, save me!” Jason cried, his hands tightly grasping Yun Yi’s sleeves, as if grasping the last straw. “There are monsters on this ancient road, and countless traps. I can’t hold on any longer!”
A glint of determination flashed in Yun Yi's eyes. He knew that on this ancient Star Road, everyone was the helmsman of their own destiny, but in this perilous moment, unity and cooperation became the only way out. "Don't be afraid, we'll go together." He reached out and firmly supported Jason. Their eyes met at that moment, as if they had reached some kind of tacit understanding.
"My name is Yun Yi, what's yours?" Yun Yi's voice was gentle but powerful, trying to use this strength to infect his travel companion who was on the verge of collapse.
"I'm Jason, a wanderer who loves adventure but always gets lost." Jason laughed self-deprecatingly, but the light in his eyes gradually regained some vitality. "I didn't expect to be stuck on this ancient road this time. However, meeting you, Brother Yun Yi, may be my good fortune."
The two walked side by side. The winding and steep terrain of the ancient road was no longer an obstacle to them, but a touchstone to test their will and wisdom. The strange birds and beasts in the Star Forest occasionally let out heart-pounding cries, their sounds echoing along the empty ancient road, adding a touch of eeriness and tension. But Yun Yi and Jason were like two unshakable rocks, steadfastly walking on this road leading to the unknown.
“These creatures in the Star Forest seem to be endowed with some strange powers by the power of the stars,” Jason whispered, glancing around vigilantly. “We must be more careful to avoid becoming their meal.”
Before he could finish his words, a massive star beast suddenly burst out of the forest. Its eyes burned like flames, and it let out a deafening roar, as if it was determined to tear to shreds any creature that dared to enter its territory. Yun Yi and Jason reacted almost simultaneously, quickly taking up their positions and preparing for this sudden battle.
Yun Yi's longsword slashed through the air in a dazzling arc, its gleam like a dragon's, piercing the Star Beast's vitals. Jason, with his agility, maneuvered around the beast, searching for the perfect moment to strike. Their coordination was seamless, as if they'd practiced countless times. After a fierce battle, the Star Beast finally collapsed in a pool of blood, dissolving into a dazzling ball of light before vanishing into thin air.
"Well done, Brother Yun Yi!" Jason panted and wiped the sweat from his forehead, his eyes flashing with admiration and gratitude. "Your swordsmanship is truly amazing!"
Yun Yi smiled slightly and shook his head, "This is just the basics. The real challenge is still to come." His words revealed unquestionable confidence and determination.
As the two continued their journey deeper into the ancient path, the traps along the way became increasingly complex and varied. Some were hidden beneath runes, imperceptible; others were moving walls or floors, making them impossible to defend against. But Yun Yi, with his keen insight and exceptional wisdom, solved each one, while Jason watched from the sidelines to ensure their safety.
"Brother Yun Yi, you are truly one of the smartest people I have ever met." Jason praised sincerely. He had never seen anyone who could handle the various challenges on the ancient road so easily, as if all this was a piece of cake for him.
"You're too kind," Yun Yi responded modestly. He knew his growth was inseparable from the hardships and perseverance along the way. "In fact, these mechanisms all have their own internal logic and rules to follow. As long as you observe and think carefully, you can always find a way to crack them."
As the two chatted, Yun Yi suddenly stopped, his gaze drawn to a stone slab beneath his feet. The slab, emitting a faint, star-like glow, stood out against the dim surroundings. "It seems this slab is somewhat unusual." He crouched down and examined it more closely, discovering that its surface was covered in intricate runes, seemingly imbued with some mysterious power.
"What is this?" Jason came forward curiously and observed the stone slab with Yun Yi, trying to find some clues from it. "Could it be the clue to the Star Ruins?"
Yun Yi pondered for a moment and said slowly: "It is very likely. The runes on this stone slab are different from the other runes on the ancient road. It seems to hide some secret." He carefully tried to touch the stone slab. Suddenly, a warm and soft star power surged out from the stone slab and into his body, making him feel comfortable and peaceful.
"It seems I guessed right." A hint of surprise flashed in Yun Yi's eyes. He quickly took out a clean cloth from his arms and carefully wrapped the stone slab, fearing any damage. "This stone slab may be the key to the Star Ruins."
