Chapter 91 Sympathies
Suddenly, in the silent night, there was a sound of light footsteps, coming from far away and getting closer. Cui Xueying's heart suddenly tightened, and she couldn't help but think of her previous experience. Could it be that Bai Tingting's men were catching up again?
She pressed herself nervously against the wall, keeping herself in the shadows, trying not to be seen. The footsteps grew clearer, as if each step was treading on her heart. Her palms began to sweat, her heartbeat quickened, and the nervousness almost made it hard for her to breathe.
However, when the figure appeared at the entrance of the alley, Cui Xueying breathed a sigh of relief. It turned out to be a strange girl who looked nothing like Bai Tingting. But why would she appear here alone at this late hour?
Just when Cui Xueying was confused, the girl seemed to sense her presence. Her eyes flashed with curiosity and friendliness in the darkness. Cui Xueying looked at her warily, not sure whether she would bring trouble to herself.
"Do you need help?" the girl asked softly, her voice gentle and kind. Cui Xueying hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded. After all, she was in urgent need of a way out of her current predicament, and this girl might be able to provide some help.
The girl slowly approached Cui Xueying, exuding a reassuring aura. She gently helped Cui Xueying up and asked with concern, "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Cui Xueying shook her head slowly, with gratitude flashing in her eyes. She stared at the girl in front of her and said softly, "I just escaped from those hateful gangsters with great difficulty. We have to find a safe place to hide quickly. We must not let them find us, otherwise we will be in big trouble!" Then, she briefly explained her current dangerous situation to the girl.
The girl pondered for a moment, then suddenly raised her finger and pointed forward, saying seriously, "Follow me. I know a place where we can hide."
Cui Xueying followed the girl without hesitation, a glimmer of hope slowly growing in her heart. They walked out of the alley and came to an abandoned building. The girl carefully opened the door and led Cui Xueying inside. "It's hard for ordinary people to find here. I think it should be relatively safe. Why don't you rest here for a while? Once you've recovered some strength and energy, we can consider what to do next."
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Cui Xueying was so moved that her eyes filled with tears. She thanked him repeatedly. She slowly sat down against the wall, closed her eyes, and tried to calm herself down.
The girl smiled and nodded, then found a corner to sit down. Cui Xueying closed her eyes and recalled what had happened in the past few days. Her mood became heavier. After a while, she felt someone patted her shoulder gently. When she opened her eyes, she saw the girl handing her a bottle of water and a piece of bread.
"Eat something, you'll feel better." The girl said gently.
Cui Xueying gratefully accepted the food and thanked him again. After eating, she felt her strength had recovered a little and her spirits had improved a lot.
"Thank you for saving me." Cui Xueying said to the girl sincerely, "If it weren't for you, I might not be here safely."
The girl smiled, revealing two cute dimples. "You're welcome. It's just a simple favor. But, how did you fall into the hands of a group of thugs? And you look so weak."
Cui Xueying hesitated for a moment, but decided to tell the girl about her experience. After all, the girl seemed kind, and if she could get her help, she might be able to find a way out faster. So she simply told the girl about her kidnapping, escape, and injury.
After hearing Cui Xueying's story, the girl frowned. "How abominable! Those kidnappers are simply insane! But don't worry, we will definitely find a way to leave here."
Cui Xueying nodded, her heart filled with hope, like a beacon in the darkness, illuminating the road ahead. Although she didn't know who this girl was, she believed that as long as the two of them worked together, they would be able to overcome the difficulties, just like two small boats supporting each other in the turbulent waves.
Then, Cui Xueying curiously asked the girl: "By the way, what's your name? Why are you here so late?"
The girl was silent for a moment, then replied: "My name is Lin Xiao, I..."
Cui Xueying noticed that the girl seemed to have something to hide, so she comforted her and said, "It's okay, it's okay if you don't want to say it."
However, Lin Xiao shook his head, lowered his head and whispered, "Actually, I escaped. My family forced me to marry someone I didn't like. It was like pushing me into a cage without sunlight, so I ran away."
Cui Xueying looked at her in surprise, having never thought her experience was so similar to her own. She felt a sense of sympathy. She couldn't help but recall that she had also been forced into an engagement for family interests, and ultimately chose to escape, like a bound bird struggling to break free from its cage.
