The 1970s: Military Family Beauty

Chapter 16: I Want to Take Care

Jiang Furong waited for a while and found that things did not develop as expected at all.

She thought that in most families, as long as there were elderly people, they would go over to help when they heard a child crying, and at the very least, they would ask what was going on and whether it was serious.

I just heard Luo Danfeng comforting the child in the room, saying "baby, don't cry, baby, don't cry."

However, the child's heart-wrenching cries grew louder and louder, drowning out Luo Danfeng's increasingly anxious attempts to comfort him.

The child's grandmother, who was sitting in the living room, listened to the child's crying for a while with her eyes squinted, then stood up unhappily and said to Jiang Furong, "You sit down, I'm going to rest." Then she poutingly went into another bedroom, closed the door, and locked it with a click.

Jiang Furong was left alone in the living room.

If it were another girl, she would feel embarrassed when being a guest and would find a way not to come next time.

After a moment of embarrassment, Jiang Furong quickly calmed down. She saw how helpless Luo Danfeng was when she was in trouble.

"Sister Luo, where did the child fall?" Jiang Furong was the first to find a way out in the chaos. She walked to the door of the room and suggested, "The clinic is not far away. Can I go with you to check the child?"

Luo Danfeng carried the child out of the room, her forehead smeared with sweat. She was obviously anxious and her voice was tearful. "Xiao Jiang, I don't know where she fell. I can't help her. Do the clinics take care of such a young child?"

Jiang Furong didn't really know, but she was very good at analyzing. "If the clinic won't treat you, I'll take you to the hospital. The field hospital isn't far from here, and it'll only take ten minutes."

Her idea was simple: if the child fell, it would be considered timely medical treatment. If not, it would be like going out for a walk. Taking the child outside to breathe fresh air was always better than staying at home and walking around helplessly.

"Okay, okay, I'll take my child to see her." Luo Danfeng seemed to have found her backbone and was no longer so panicked. She carried the child to the door of her mother-in-law's bedroom and called out, "Mom, I'll take Xiaotang to the health center for treatment."

The door opened, and Grandma Luo Danfeng lifted the curtain, frowning: "What could possibly be wrong with the child? If the child cries, you hold her and walk around the room and she stops crying, but all you do is stand there and pat her. Your hands are so heavy that even if she doesn't cry, you'll make her cry."

Luo Danfeng was scolded and quickly defended herself: "I was just walking around in circles in the room. I didn't take any strong shots."

"Why go to the hospital if you are not sick? It's unlucky!" Luo Danfeng's mother-in-law said coldly, slammed the door curtain, turned around and closed the door again.

Luo Danfeng wanted to argue, but the door curtain hit her face. She looked bitter and dared not say a word, tears welling up in her eyes.

Jiang Furong was also shocked by what her mother-in-law Luo Danfeng did, and she didn't know what to say for a moment.

In the unbearable silence, the child's crying never stopped, and each cry was long-lasting, making people worry that she would suffocate to death without time to breathe.

Jiang Furong couldn't bear to listen any longer. Before deciding to leave, she tried to ask, "Sister Luo, do you want me to go with you?"

She knew at a glance that Luo Danfeng usually submitted to the power of her mother-in-law, and dared neither speak nor get angry. She didn't know why she was thinking about making up for her cultural studies.

If Luo Danfeng is really ambitious, she is willing to help her.

Luo Danfeng's tears fell heavily. Looking at the child's flushed face and gradually hoarse crying, she gritted her teeth and stamped her feet: "Come on, take me to the clinic."

Jiang Furong curled her lips and said, "Okay, let's go. By the way, do you want to take anything with you?"

Luo Danfeng sniffed and tried hard to swallow back her tears: "No need, just go like this. If the journey is not far, you won't starve."

Just as they were about to walk out of the hallway and turn onto the street, Luo Danfeng's mother-in-law ran out and shouted, "Don't go to the hospital! Seriously, they're naive, and you're not naive too? Why go to the hospital if you're not sick?"

Jiang Furong pointed at the small bump on the child's head and said, "It's swollen. We need to get some medicine."

Luo Danfeng was so busy holding the child that she didn't notice the swelling on the top of the child's head. When she found out, she couldn't help but burst into tears again. She turned back and begged, "Mom, please let me take Xiaotang to get some medicine."

Someone happened to be passing by on the road. He heard the noise and stopped to look over here curiously.

Luo Danfeng's mother-in-law snorted angrily: "It's just a small matter and you're going to the hospital. Let's see, I'll kill you. Go, go, go. If anything happens to the child in the future, don't blame me for not warning you."

This round of indirect criticism even included Jiang Furong.

Jiang Furong's stubborn temper flared up, and she said loudly, "The doctors at the field hospital are renowned throughout the army, and their medical standards are among the best in the country. Sister Luo, you can go see them without worry. It will definitely be good for the child."

Originally, this was someone else's family conflict, and she wouldn't have gotten involved. But when the blame was directed at her, she wasn't polite at all, throwing a heavy hat back at him: "Only when you and the children are safe can Secretary Liu do his job without worries. We can't let trivial matters at home hinder Secretary Liu's progress."

Luo Danfeng nodded repeatedly: "Yes, yes, I will never let my Zhiguo down. Xiao Jiang, take me with you. I can take good care of the child."

The bystander was also a family member. After hearing what they said, he enthusiastically pointed the way: "Yes, yes, Doctor Fu from the field hospital can treat children. I just saw her talking to someone at the entrance of the clinic. You should take the child and see her quickly, otherwise she will pass away soon."

Luo Danfeng wished she could grow wings and quickly responded, "You're so kind. I'll go right away."

After saying that, she followed Jiang Furong without looking back, leaving her mother-in-law's anger behind.

When we arrived at the clinic, we saw Dr. Fu checking the usage of medicines in the clinic and busy sorting them out with the nurse.

Luo Danfeng carried the child over. Perhaps she was too anxious and stammered, unable to utter a complete sentence: "I fell, my head is swollen..."

"Don't worry, put the child on the table." Doctor Fu knew what was going on. The table was empty, so he used it as a small examination table. He turned around and glanced at Jiang Furong: "Are you her sister? How did the child fall?"

Jiang Furong simply answered based on what she knew: "He fell off the bed while sleeping and kept crying, so I brought him here."

While Dr. Fu was asking questions and listening to the answers, he had already swiftly unwrapped the child's blanket, skillfully pinched the child's arms and legs, and felt the child's abdomen and chest. Finally, he confirmed that the swelling on the head was the only injured part, and he took the medicated oil and applied it to the child himself.

Perhaps it was because Dr. Fu's touch during the examination was very comfortable that the child's crying gradually stopped, and when the medicated oil was applied, he even bit his little hand and smiled.
