Chapter 622: The Dragon's Hometown
When Alvin heard this request, the first thing that popped into his mind was the ancient riddle about the Sphinx that almost all adventurers had heard in the tavern - "What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"
But he immediately suppressed the thought.
No, this is too common, and the opponent is an arcane creation, so he may not fall for it.
What if it was asking about the origin of a lost civilization in Azeroth, or the synthesis formula of some rare magical material, wouldn't I be dumbfounded?
He was more cautious and decided to test the scope of the other party's questions first.
Alvin raised his head, a humble expression on his face. "Your Excellency, Norim, I am only a human with a short lifespan and limited experience. If your question involves the mysteries of the Titans' creation, or some long-lost ancient magic, I'm afraid I can't answer it at all. It doesn't seem fair."
Norim's body, made of pages and arcane energy, rustled softly, as if chuckling.
The resonant, overlapping voices echoed again, with the tolerance of an elder: "Don't worry, young priest. My duty is to protect knowledge, not to abuse it to harass visitors. My three questions will be limited to the history that has already occurred and been recorded on this continent of Azeroth, and will never go beyond the scope of mortal wisdom. I can assure you that the questions will not be deliberately unsolvable."
Hearing this promise, Alvin felt a little relieved.
He shrugged and spread his hands in a casual manner, saying, "Well, since you are so fair, I am willing to accept the challenge. What is the first question?"
The pages of the book on Norem's body flipped quickly a few times, as if searching through a question bank.
Its blazing eyes of energy flickered, and it spoke: "Very good. Since my creator has a deep connection with dragons, and your companion is a noble dragon, then the first question will be related to dragons. Tell me, where is the recognized and original origin of the five-colored dragonflights of Azeroth, their ancient homeland?"
As soon as the question came out, Akalitrassa, who was standing next to Alvin, immediately poked him with her little hand and whispered in his ear, "Wetlands! I know! The area near Grim Batol east of the wetlands used to be where our red dragons lived!"
Elwin gave the little red dragon a grateful yet helpless smile and whispered, "The eastern wetlands are indeed an important habitat for your red dragonkin in recent times. As far as I know, the blue dragons are in Coldarra, the green dragons are in the Emerald Dream, the bronze dragons are in the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, and the black dragons, uh, used to be in Dustwallow Marsh or somewhere else? But Norrem is asking about the oldest 'homeland' shared by all dragons, which shouldn't be one of these places."
Akalitassa scratched her fiery red hair anxiously, her face wrinkled. "Ah? A common hometown? Is there such a place? Why have I never heard of it?"
Alvin, however, was already confident.
He took a deep breath, raised his head, faced Norim confidently, and answered loudly: "The dragons' habitats are all over Azeroth, but if we talk about the ancient homeland common to all dragons and the source of their bloodline, I think the answer should be - the Dragon Islands!"
"Hmm?!"
Alvin's answer caused the giant magical creature Norim to exclaim in amazement.
Its huge energy body even caused ripples due to the vibration, and the countless pages flying regularly on its surface were instantly confused.
“This… is truly astonishing!”
Norem's voice was filled with disbelief.
"The existence of the Dragon Islands, and the fact that it is the birthplace of the dragon race, has long been buried by the passage of time and repeated world upheavals. Even for the immortal dragons, it is a place so far away that it has almost become a legend. Even its exact location has been lost! How did a young human like you know about it?!"
Its surprise was beyond words. It was obvious that Alvin's answer was completely beyond its expectations of the knowledge reserves of a "young human".
Alvin just kept smiling and didn't explain the source of the information.
Norem seemed to realize he had lost his composure. He coughed and regained his calm and dignified tone: "Congratulations, young man. Your answer is completely correct. You passed the first question."
"Yeah! That's great!"
Akalitasa jumped for joy, even happier than if she had answered correctly.
But then she tilted her head again, confusion showing on her face.
"But why have my father, mother, and other dragon elders never mentioned the Dragon Islands to me? Isn't it a good place there?"
Alvin sighed softly and whispered, "Perhaps it's because it's a hometown I can never return to. Being overly obsessed with a lost home can sometimes hinder progress."
“Interesting insights.”
Norim interrupted their whispered conversation, its tone becoming more serious than before.
"It seems I have underestimated you, Mr. Irwin. Your knowledge far exceeds that expected of someone of your age and race. So, I'm sure this second question will stump you."
The hall suddenly became quiet, with only the soft rustling sound of countless pages turning.
Both Alvin and Akalitra held their breath, waiting for the second question.
Norem seemed to have thought deeply. The pages of the book on its body flipped at different rhythms. Finally, it asked a question:
"The second question is still about origins. This time, it's about you yourselves. Tell me, humans of Azeroth, where did your race come from?"
"Ah? This, this question..."
Akalitasa's face suddenly turned red, this time out of embarrassment.
She hesitated for a moment, then replied in a voice as thin as a mosquito and with an innocent tone, "Well, isn't that simple? A man and a woman... become partners... and then... then naturally... a baby will be born..."
The more she spoke, the softer her voice became, and finally she almost buried her head in her chest.
Norem's huge energy body seemed to solidify for a moment, and the two blazing white "eyes" seemed to make a "rolling eyes" gesture.
"Young lady of the Dragon Clan, the focus of my question isn't on humans, uh, how they reproduce. I want to inquire about a deeper origin—before the concept of 'humanity' was formed, who were your ancestors? What did they originally look like? From what kind of existence did you evolve, or by what force did you evolve?"
