The Legend of Cinderella's Counterattack
Chapter 29 Struggle
Officer Li's appearance was like a ray of light, breaking the tense atmosphere in the warehouse. The men in black were clearly panicking, and Yuxuan and I took the opportunity to distance ourselves from each other, standing back to back, warily observing the movements around us.
"Bang!" A gunshot shattered the brief silence. The men in black opened fire first, and the bullets whizzed past our ears, leaving terrible dents on the metal shelves. The warehouse instantly turned into a battlefield of gunfire. The deafening gunfire and the endless shouting were terrifying.
"Quick, get cover!" Yuxuan yelled, pulling me behind a pile of cargo. I clutched his hand tightly, my heart pounding like it was about to burst out of my throat. I'd never experienced anything so thrilling before. Fear entwined itself like a vine through my nerves, making it nearly impossible to breathe.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Yuxuan's voice was deep and firm, like a shot of adrenaline, calming me down a bit. He protected me behind him, his eyes scanning the surroundings sharply, searching for an escape route.
The police engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with the men in black. Bullets flew, flames splashed, and the warehouse was filled with the pungent smell of gunpowder. We were trapped behind the pile of goods, in a dilemma, and could only pray that this gunfight would end quickly.
Suddenly, a cry of surprise came from deep within the warehouse, mixed with a woman's crying and a child's screaming. My heart sank suddenly, and I realized that something was wrong.
"Oh no, they have hostages!" Yuxuan's face changed, and he pulled me to peek out. I saw that at the other end of the warehouse, a man was holding a young woman hostage, with a shiny dagger against her neck. The woman was holding a crying baby in her arms.
"You bunch of cops, get back off! Otherwise, I will kill them!" the man yelled hysterically, looking crazy and desperate.
Upon seeing this, Officer Li immediately ordered the police to stop shooting and tried to negotiate, but the man was emotionally agitated and refused to listen. Instead, he pressed the dagger even harder against the woman's fair neck, leaving a shocking blood mark.
"What should I do?" I anxiously grabbed Yuxuan's arm, looking at the helpless and frightened eyes of the woman and child. My heart felt like it was being tightly grasped by an invisible hand, and I felt extremely uncomfortable.
"We can't just sit there and wait for death. We must find a way to save them!" A glint of determination flashed in Yuxuan's eyes. He had made his decision. I understand what you mean. You want me to continue writing, right? I'm willing to give it a try!
"What do you want to do? It's too dangerous!" I held Yuxuan's arm tightly. His plan must be risky, but I have no other choice at the moment.
"Don't worry, I'll see what happens." Yuxuan gave me a reassuring look and said in a low voice, "Be careful and escape when you get a chance!"
Before I could respond, he crouched down, using the cargo as cover as he could to move toward the man. I was terrified, but I knew I couldn't be a burden to him. I could only suppress my fear and worry, staring intently at his back, silently praying for him.
The standoff between the police and the men in black continued, with intermittent gunfire. The atmosphere in the warehouse was extremely tense. I hid behind the pile of goods, my palms covered in cold sweat, and I didn't dare to take my eyes off Yuxuan for a moment.
Suddenly, a scream broke the silence of the warehouse. My heart trembled violently. I looked in the direction of the sound and saw Yuxuan's body tilted, covering his arm in pain, and bright red blood gushing out from between his fingers.
"Yuxuan!" I screamed and rushed out desperately.
"Don't come over!" Yuxuan shouted anxiously when he saw me rushing out, but it was too late. I had already run to his side and desperately supported his shaky body.
"You are injured, we have to leave here quickly!" I was so anxious that I was about to cry. I hurriedly tore off a piece of cloth from my clothes and tried to help him stop the bleeding.
"Don't worry about me, let's go! They have hostages!" Yuxuan endured the pain, pushed my hand away and urged me to leave.
"I'm not leaving! Let's go together!" I shook my head stubbornly, tears welling up in my eyes. I would never leave him alone!
Just then, I heard a chaotic sound of footsteps coming from the warehouse door. Officer Li's voice was particularly clear in the chaos: "Drop your weapons! You are surrounded! Surrendering is your only way out!"
A glimmer of hope ignited in my heart. It seemed that the police had the situation under control and we were safe!
However, things did not develop in the direction we expected. The man saw that he had no other way out and became even more crazy. He put the dagger to the woman's neck and shouted hysterically: "Get out of here! Otherwise, I will die with her!"
"Don't be impulsive! You still have a chance!" Officer Li tried to comfort the man, but the man had lost his mind and would not listen to any advice.
I supported Yuxuan and slowly retreated, trying to find a safe place to hide, but the man had already discovered us. His eyes were red and he glared at us fiercely, as if he wanted to eat us alive.
"It's all your fault! You destroyed everything I had!" the man roared, pointing the gun at us.
My eyes widened in fear, my heart pounding in my throat. At that critical moment, a gunshot pierced the silence of the warehouse...
"Bang!" The deafening sound of gunfire rang out in my ears. I closed my eyes in fear, thinking I was about to die. However, the expected pain did not come. I slowly opened my eyes and saw the gun in the man's hand fell to the ground. A bloody hole appeared on his wrist, and blood gushed out.
"Ah!" The man let out a terrible howl, and the woman in his arms took the opportunity to break free from his control and stumbled towards the police with the child in her arms.
Only then did I realize that it was Officer Li who had fired the shot. His face was stern, the gun in his hand still pointed at the man, and his tone was unquestionable: "Put down your weapon, or I will not be polite!"
The man covered his bleeding wrist, his face full of resentment and despair. He knew that he had no way out, but he still refused to give up. He was like a wounded beast, roaring madly, trying to make a final struggle.
"Lolo, do you still remember those materials?" Yuxuan, who had been silent all the time, suddenly spoke. His face was frighteningly pale, but his eyes were unusually clear.
"Information?" I was stunned for a moment, then realized that he was referring to the evidence of their criminal activities that we had found at the Black Fire headquarters.
"Yes! There must be something in those materials that can completely bring them down!" Yuxuan's tone was firm and urgent. He knew this was the last chance.
I didn't dare to delay and immediately took out the USB flash drive from my pocket. This was the backup I had secretly copied before. I held it tightly, feeling like it was a heavy burden that made it hard for me to breathe.
"Officer Li, here is all the evidence of Black Fire's crimes!" I took a deep breath and shouted loudly.
When Officer Li heard what I said, he immediately sent someone to take the USB drive away and arranged for someone to take the injured Yuxuan, the woman and the child to the hospital.
When the man saw the USB drive in my hand, his face paled. He knew he was finished, completely finished. He collapsed to the ground, like a deflated ball, his previous arrogance gone.
The police quickly took control of the situation and apprehended all the men in black, bringing this thrilling warehouse shootout to a close. As I watched the men being escorted into the car by the police, I felt a mixture of emotions. I didn't know whether to be happy that they had been apprehended or sad for the people they had harmed.
"It's over, everything is over." Yuxuan's weak voice sounded in my ears. I turned to look at him, only to see that his face was pale and his lips were bloodless, but he still tried to give me a comforting smile.
My nose felt sore and tears welled up in my eyes again. I threw myself into his arms, hugged him tightly, and felt his weak breathing and warm body temperature. At this moment, I truly understood what it meant to survive a disaster and what it meant to regain what was lost.
Although this crisis is over, the shock and reflection it left on me are far from over. I began to reflect on my life and what I want. I want to become stronger, no longer a greenhouse flower. I want to use my strength to protect those I love and help those in need.
After the gunshot, the warehouse fell into an eerie silence, like the calm before a storm, oppressive and suffocating. I opened my eyes, still dazed, and saw the man lying flat on the ground, a bullet wound to the forehead. Blood stained the floor. The shooter was a sniper, hidden in the shadows, who dealt the man the fatal blow.
Officer Li acted decisively, commanding his officers to rush forward and subdue the remaining men in black. The warehouse erupted in chaos, with shouts and struggles emanating from the area, but soon calm returned.
I finally came to my senses and rushed to check on Yuxuan's injuries. His face was frighteningly pale, and blood was still pouring from his arm. I frantically pressed my clothes against his wound, tears streaming down my face. "Yuxuan, how are you? Hang in there, the ambulance will be here soon!"
Yuxuan endured the pain and gave me a comforting smile: "I'm fine, don't worry."
I looked at his frail appearance, and my heart ached. At this moment, Officer Li came over and looked at me with admiration in his eyes: "Ms. Lin, you are very brave. The information you provided is very important to us."
I shook my head and choked up, saying, "I just did what I should do."
Officer Li nodded and looked at Yuxuan again: "Mr. Lu, you are also a man. I will report your heroic behavior truthfully."
Yuxuan smiled but said nothing. His eyes stayed on me, full of tenderness and attachment.
The ambulance arrived quickly, and Yuxuan was rushed to the hospital. I stayed by his side, never leaving his side. After the doctors' intensive care, Yuxuan was finally out of danger.
In the hospital, I finally had time to collect my thoughts. I remembered the man's venomous gaze before his death, and my heart was filled with fear and anxiety. I knew that although the Black Fire had been annihilated, their remnants might still exist. I had to be even more cautious to protect myself and Yuxuan.
I looked at the weak Yuxuan lying on the hospital bed and secretly made up my mind that I must become stronger and no longer be a flower in a greenhouse. I want to be Yuxuan's support and face the future storms with him.
