The moment Arabelle saw that the person coming was Adrian, she reached behind her back and touched the hilt of the knife. Howard was quick to hold it down, so Arabelle did not pull out the dagger, but still stared at the other party angrily.

Adrien sensed the murderous intent in Arabelle and noticed Howard holding her down, so he adjusted his tone and said, "Thank you so much, both of you. Lucy, I'm sorry to trouble you. If you don't mind, why don't you come in and sit down?"

Adrien made way for the corridor leading into the house.

ten minutes later

"Coffee, please."

The butler served Howard, Arabelle, and Adrian coffee and plates of sugar cubes, then retreated silently.

Adrian's home was decorated in a classical style, with thick wool carpets on the floor and brass candlesticks hanging from the ceiling. They were now sitting in front of the fireplace on the first floor. There were three tables and chairs in front of the fireplace. Adrian was now sitting facing the fireplace, while Arabelle and Howard were sitting on his right. An exquisite saber was hanging on the wall above the fireplace.

A little further out from the fireplace, a narrow cabinet half the height of a person separated another area. In this area, there was a long mahogany dining table. Next to the long table was a mini bar. There were two high wooden chairs in front of the bar. The cabinet behind the bar was filled with fine wines, including the white wine that Anderson had shared with them.

Next to the dining area is another area with better light. This area is furnished with comfortable low sofas and the walls on both sides are lined with books and paintings. Further ahead is the end of the first floor, where there is a huge floor-to-ceiling window. Outside the window is a well-tended greenhouse backyard full of various flowers and a small fountain.

The luxury of the first floor alone exceeded Howard's expectations. Howard knew how much it would cost to maintain such a classical lifestyle in a place like the Hive City where every inch of land was valuable and supplies were scarce. The price of these pure wooden furniture would not be cheaper than the same weight of silver or even gold.

Howard originally thought that the Governor was generous enough to just give him a small house in the garden area, but judging from Adrian's residence, the Governor's own Governor's Mansion might be a hundred times more luxurious. So, in the eyes of the Governor, just giving him a small house was probably the same as giving him a doghouse.

Howard picked up the coffee and took a sip. It had a rich aroma and a smooth taste, with a little bit of residue, like the style of Turkish coffee. The cup that held the coffee was also exquisite porcelain, and it was definitely very expensive.

"Did you kidnap Lucy?" Adrian asked suddenly.

Arabelle was about to explode when Howard put his hand on her and stopped her with a look.

"Do you think it's possible?" Howard retorted, "If we kidnapped that child, do you think you'd still be sitting here? If you kidnapped the child of someone you hate, I think you could come up with countless ways to torture them."

"I'm not as shameless as you scum from the Middle Nest. I won't use a child to make trouble." Adrien retorted angrily.

"Ah, yes! That unscrupulous Zhongchao scum you're talking about risked his life to protect a five or six-year-old girl on the Governor's tour, taking her to play, feeding her, and bringing her home. And you, a noble upper-class lord, went to Zhongchao to kidnap an unarmed, law-abiding citizen of mine. When the kidnapping failed, you still shot me after the Zhongchao leader let you go. Is your understanding of unscrupulousness different from ours? Do you know how much chaos that one shot you fired in frustration after your mission failed caused? How many people died?" Howard asked in return, "Is it our bottom line that's unscrupulous, or is it yours?"

This made Adrien lose his temper. He lowered his head and supported his forehead with his hands, then rubbed his face and said angrily, "I was indeed impulsive in that matter. If I had been calmer at the time, I would not have done it. It was not my intention to kidnap a civilian, but I am a soldier and I must obey orders first. If I don't accept this mission, someone else will, and then they may use more extreme methods..."

Neither Arabelle nor Howard responded.

The chaos Adrien had caused couldn't be brushed aside lightly. Arabelle still remembered that brave young man. It wasn't that she didn't want to kill Adrien, but firstly, it was difficult to do it in front of Lucy. Secondly, she knew that Adrien was just the executioner. If the people giving the orders weren't eliminated, there would always be others to do the dirty work.

"Dad!" In the silence, Lucy ran over and changed into the skirt Howard bought for her. Then she ran to Adrien, turned around and asked, "Dad, do I look good?"

"Of course it's beautiful, my little princess." Adrien smiled and hugged Lucy into his arms, his face full of doting.

"Brother and sister, do I look good?" Lucy turned around and asked Arabelle and Howard.

The two could only smile and nod.

"Lucy, go play with your mom. Dad is entertaining guests," said Adrien.

After sending his daughter away, the depressing atmosphere in front of the fireplace returned.

"What on earth are you doing here in the nest?" Adrien asked.

"Come out and play!" This time it was Arabelle who answered, then glanced at Howard and said, "Or rather, come out..."

But she still didn't finish her words, so she repeated her previous words: "Just coming out to play."

"I don't believe it!" said Adrian.

"Whoever questions it must provide evidence." Howard put down his coffee cup and said, "And Mr. Adrian, can we please stop with this meaningless talk? If you invited us into your home just to question us from a superior position in a different environment, then please allow us to leave."

"Please wait!" Adrian stopped Howard and Arabelle as they stood up to leave. After they sat down again, his expression softened slightly. "I'm very grateful for bringing Lucy back. Of course, words of gratitude aren't enough, but I also know you two are both well-off, and you might not appreciate ordinary material gifts, so I can only offer you a suggestion."

Then Adri sat up straight and said seriously, "Leave the Middle Nest."

"Why do you say that?!" Arabelle suddenly became alert.

"It's just my feeling..." Adrien said, "Based on some rumors I've heard and the dispatches of some departments, I vaguely feel that the Governor and his men might be planning some major action in the Middle Nest..."

Then Adrian looked at Howard and said, "I know your magical pancakes...are in great demand after being smuggled to high-ranking officials. That's why those masters sent me to kidnap you. But it seems they didn't kidnap you to monopolize this magical food, but...because they were afraid they would never be able to eat your pancakes again..."

Arabelle's expression changed immediately after hearing this answer. She stood up and was about to leave, but Howard grabbed her and stared at Adrian and said, "Why are you telling us this? Aren't soldiers supposed to keep secrets?"

"These are just groundless speculations. No one has asked us to keep it secret or explain this matter," Adrien said. "I'm not even sure if it's correct. Besides, you saved Lucy... and after all, the Middle Nest is the lifeblood of the entire hive. Even if the Governor and his men have some major operations, they're probably just a purge of disobedient agents in the Middle Nest. It probably has nothing to do with the civilians there, so it's okay to tell you."

After Adrien finished speaking, Arabelle pulled Howard up and started to leave again, but after two steps she turned back and asked, "Where's my gun? Give it back to me!"

"I can't keep your weapons as confiscated spoils of war, so I handed them over to the army a long time ago," said Adrian.

Arabelle gave him one last glare and pulled Howard straight out of Adrien's house.

"Brother and sister!" Unexpectedly, Lucy chased out at this time. She ran to the two people who were about to leave and raised her head to ask, "Are you leaving now?"

"Yeah," Howard squatted down and touched Lucy's head: "Brother and sister have their own things to do and can't spend more time with Lucy."

"Okay..." Lucy had a lost expression on her face, and then asked, "Will you come to see me again in the future?"

"Yes," Howard replied.

Hearing this answer, Lucy became happy again. She hugged Howard, kissed him on the cheek and said, "Goodbye, brother!"

Then she reached out for Arabelle to hug her. Arabelle was a little shy at first, but finally squatted down.

Lucy also kissed Arabelle on the cheek: "Goodbye, sister!"
