Traveling through time, I'm making pancakes in Warhammer
Chapter 5 Ohm Messiah
Howard traveled through time in his physical body, so when he came through, his clothes and belongings were still there, including this cell phone.
But a few days after crossing over, the phone ran out of power and turned off. Later, Howard collected some magnets and copper coils, made a simple device, and tried to generate electricity by hand.
Then he realized he didn't have a charging cable.
If it was a removable battery like in the past, Howard could have found a way to make two charging electrodes, but unfortunately, with the advancement of technology, mobile phone batteries are no longer removable.
So he hid the phone under his bed and it gathered dust.
Howard was very sure that he had kept this phone under his bed, and now not only did the phone run into his pocket, but it also started up by itself even though it was out of power. If this wasn't a haunting, what could it be?
In the Warhammer world, hauntings are basically inseparable from psionics, and being inseparable from psionics means being inseparable from the Warp.
So Howard hid behind the glove box tremblingly, and even took out an engineer shovel from the side and held it in his hand to give himself courage. Then, he had the courage to stick his head out again to see what was going on with this phone.
The phone continued to play music. After YMCA, the screen flashed twice, and a voice with a mechanical sound came from inside: "Master, do you like this song?"
Howard: "You, you, you... who are you?"
"Master, I am your mobile phone. You haven't given me a name yet." The phone replied.
Hearing this answer, Howard swallowed his saliva. Could it be that his cell phone had awakened its spirit?
"Very likely!" Howard thought. Warhammer technology is unique in that the older it gets, the more powerful it becomes. Putting his phone inside Warhammer itself is a true testament to 3K-era technology, so awakening a Machine Spirit would be perfectly reasonable.
But this is just too much of a coincidence.
So Howard mustered up the courage to say to the phone, "This is a trick to prove that you are not the evil god of the subspace."
The breathing light on the front of the phone flashed a few times, and then replied: "Master, there are still 5TB of data on the hard drive of your bedroom computer that has not been deleted. You..."
"Okay, stop talking. I believe you." Howard picked up the phone.
"Okay, master." The phone answered obediently.
"Master, you haven't given me a name yet." The phone reminded again
Howard was thinking about giving the soul of this phone a name. The names of the girls in many works flashed through his mind, but he rejected them.
Finally, a sense of evil taste crept into his heart.
"From now on, your name is..." Howard held the phone in both hands and said solemnly: "Om Messiah."
"Ohm Messiah..." The phone's breathing light continued to flash rhythmically. Soon after, the electric current sounded again: "Thank you, Master. I like this name."
"What advice do you have for my situation?" Howard asked the phone... No, he asked Om Messiah.
Ohm Messiah: "I can convince Shylock to let you go, but he won't betray the soldiers on board. Even if he lets you go, the chances of you escaping are still zero, so I suggest you stay here for the time being."
"Who is Sherlock?" Howard wondered.
"Answer Master, Sherlock is the Machine Soul of this Imperial Cruiser." Om Messiah said.
"You can command the machine spirits of the Imperial warships?!" Howard was really surprised, thinking, I wouldn't really summon the God of Machines by just making up a random name, right?
"Master, that's not an order, it's a request," Om Messiah corrected. "Based on the premise that I can command Sherlock, then according to my calculations, the best option to protect you is to vacuum the area not where you are, then activate the internal machine guns and eliminate all life on board except you. However, this request of mine was rejected by Sherlock."
Howard suddenly began to suspect that this murderous cell phone was a plot of the evil god.
However, Howard listened to Om Messiah's advice and stayed in the utility room.
Two hours later.
"Master, this road is Sherlock's evacuation route, leading to the emergency escape pod."
In the utility room, Ohm Messiah projected the entire structure diagram of the Imperial warship onto the wall through the camera on the back of his mobile phone, and explained the key points to Howard one by one.
"But there is a mechanical door at the end of the evacuation passage, guarded by three Imperial Navy officers. This door cannot be opened before the captain gives the order to evacuate. Of course, Sherlock told me that this door can be opened once at your request." Om Messiah added.
But then, it marked another green branch two-thirds of the way along the originally marked evacuation route.
"This is a ventilation hole that has been decommissioned and is connected to the evacuation passage. If you want to leave as unnoticed as possible, you can choose this route, but it will add another three kilometers to your journey." Om Messiah continued to explain.
"Someone is coming." Om Messiah said suddenly, and then it turned off all the lights and went into shutdown mode.
Howard quickly put Om Messiah away.
Sure enough, footsteps were soon heard outside the utility room, and then a soldier opened the peephole of the utility room and threw something in.
"This is your rations for today." After saying that, the soldier closed the peephole and walked away.
Howard picked up the thing, which was a sealed package. When he opened it, he saw a large gel-like red semi-solid inside.
It looks a bit like the cockroach ointment in the movie "Snowpiercer".
Howard felt that something was wrong with this thing, so he pulled out the Ohm Messiah, poked its screen, and asked, "Can you help me analyze the composition of this thing?"
Om Messiah's breathing light lit up, indicating it had awakened. It then replied, "Master, I can analyze the composition of this object. Please activate the system's built-in scanning function."
Howard did as it said. A green light slowly swept across the gel, and then Om Messiah fell silent.
Howard: "Did you find anything wrong?"
Ohm Messiah: "Master, this is the standard ration for the Imperial Navy. However, the ingredients may be unacceptable to you. Do you need me to give you a detailed list?"
"No!" Howard refused decisively: "You only need to answer me two questions. First, will I have serious adverse reactions if I eat this thing? Second, does it contain cockroaches?"
"To answer Master's first question, although you may not like the taste of this object, it will not harm you. On the contrary, it can supplement your body with necessary nutrients."
"To answer Master's second question, this object is not made of the cockroaches you know. Cockroaches became extinct tens of thousands of years ago due to the extremely dry climate."
After hearing Om Messiah's answer, Howard relaxed a little. He picked up the gel and smelled it first. There was no strange smell, so he tried to take a bite.
Howard vomited.
Another hour passed, and as Howard was pinching his nose and forcing himself to eat the stuff, he suddenly felt the temperature drop sharply, and at the same time the electric charge in the surrounding air increased rapidly, and all his sweat and hair floated up.
"Master, Sherlock has started the warp engine, and we are crossing the barrier between reality and the warp." Om Messiah woke up again and explained to Howard.
"No? With such a strong subspace reaction, doesn't this ship have a Geller force field?" Howard asked.
"Answer Master, no psykers have been detected powering the Geller Field," Om Messiah replied.
"Fuck!" Howard couldn't help but curse out loud.
The Geller field is an important protection for material spacecraft during navigation in the subspace. The psychic energy emitted by special psychics after falling into a dream is guided by the Geller device and turned into a bubble of reality that wraps around the spacecraft.
It's like a supercavitating torpedo. Although it is called a torpedo, it will produce cavitation in the water, displacing the surrounding water, allowing the torpedo inside to fly in the air.
If the creatures in the material universe are compared to animals on land, the creatures in the subspace are compared to animals in the sea.
Then the Geller field is the supercavitation bubble when the material spacecraft flies in the subspace. This bubble of reality can protect the spacecraft sailing in the subspace, making some powerful subspace creatures invisible and some weak creatures unable to enter.
If a ship does not have a ground plane to travel through warp space, it is no different from diving deep without a pressure suit or running naked in a tropical rain forest full of poisonous insects.
Of course, turning on the Geller force field doesn't mean you're completely safe, but if you encounter a subspace creature that can directly tear open the Geller force field, then turning on the stance or not actually makes a big difference.
Activating the Geller Field requires burning a psyker, so Om Messiah's response just now was similar to "The Geller device is out of batteries."
Normally, only when the ship is severely damaged and the psykers cannot be reinforced and the situation is critical will the ship risk not opening the Geller force field to travel in the warp.
This is really exciting. Howard thought, how many sailors may not encounter the situation of streaking in the warp even once in their entire lives, but he streaked on his first time on a ship.
But there is no way around it, warp navigation requires activating the Geller field - without a psychic, the Geller field cannot be activated - to replenish psychics, one needs to travel through the warp to the place where psychics are produced - warp navigation requires activating the Geller field.
What followed was an extremely boring and strange period of time. Before completely entering the subspace, the soldier guarding Howard came again. This time, he brought Howard a month's worth of rations and water. Howard knew that this was because the flow of time in the subspace was disordered. It was possible that only one day had passed in this area of the warship, while several months had passed in another area. They sent rations to Howard in advance because they were afraid that he would starve to death during the disordered time.
It seems that everyone on the ship knows that the Geller force field is useless.
Sure enough, after completely entering the subspace, no one brought rations to Howard anymore. At the same time, due to the influence of the subspace, various counterintuitive phenomena appeared in the utility room. For example, the engineer shovel that Howard turned out, Howard watched it rust and decay at a speed visible to the naked eye, but when he blinked, the engineer shovel was as good as new again.
At the same time, everything in the utility room except Howard and Om Messiah was expanding and collapsing all the time, making Howard dizzy.
Om Messiah noticed that his master was in a bad mental state and tried to tell Howard a joke:
One day, a Hammerman traveled through time and space, finding himself in DND. He knelt down and piously chanted, "Praise the Emperor!" A nun nearby, puzzled, asked, "This is DND, not Warhammer. Are you mistaken?" The Hammerman waved his hand and said, "No, no, no, that's exactly why I praise the Emperor."
After hearing the joke, Howard said that it was a good one and told me not to tell it again next time.
……
Howard had spent countless late nights in the subspace, barely falling asleep on a bed made of cardboard boxes and wooden boards. Suddenly, he heard a very familiar song.
It was a very old song, older than Howard himself, and the reason Howard was familiar with it was because it was his wake-up ringtone in middle school.
Howard subconsciously got up in a daze, but as soon as he got up, he immediately realized: I have graduated.
So he looked at Om Messiah, and sure enough, it must have been its doing again.
"What are you doing?" Howard asked.
"Reply Master, now is not the time to sleep." Om Messiah's breathing light flashed at an unprecedented frequency: "Sherlock has been invaded."
"Master, get down!" Om Messiah said again
"boom--"
As soon as Om Messiah finished speaking, the moment Howard lay down, half of the wall of the utility room was blasted open by heavy artillery.
