After entering the middle layer of the hive, the brightness of the environment dropped sharply.

In the upper levels of the hive, various carefully set light sources almost completely simulate the effect of natural starlight, but in the middle levels of the hive, only a few poor old street lamps on the roadside provide extremely limited light.

That's because the upper levels of the hive have sufficient electricity supply, and in many places, electricity is completely free. Although the residents of the middle levels of the hive are producers of electricity, they have to pay high fees for the already insufficient electricity supply.

It wasn't just the lighting; every aspect of the place was in extreme decline. Most of the buildings were shaky and crumbling, and unlike the buildings on the upper levels of the hive, which had given Howard the illusion of being too tall, the buildings here truly could collapse at any moment. Howard saw huge, moldy cracks on many of them, and some even needed scaffolding to maintain their balance.

There's no trash on the streets here, but this isn't because the people of the Hive's mid-levels care about the environment. Rather, it's because resources are extremely scarce. Everything recyclable is reused, including the bodies of the dead, which are recycled over and over again until they become worthless waste. The air the Hive's residents breathe, the water they drink, and the food they eat may have already been through countless cycles in the bodies of others, or even been part of their bodies.

Howard looked more like an alien when he was walking in the middle level of the hive than when he was in the upper level. He didn't see anyone on the road, but he always heard faint rustling sounds behind him. Whenever he looked back, the strange sound disappeared.

So Howard unconsciously quickened his pace, wanting to reach the place chosen for him by Om Messiah as soon as possible - a hotel in the middle level of the hive city.

After walking for about half an hour, tiny drops of water fell on Howard's body. Howard's first reaction was that there was a ghost, because he knew that he was inside the hive and the climate changes in the outside world could not affect the inside of the hive.

Then Howard thought there was a leak somewhere, but then the raindrops fell more and more, as if a rainstorm was coming.

In fact, this so-called rainwater is condensation water. The large amount of water vapor discharged during production in the middle-level factories of the hive gathers at the top, and then solidifies at night due to the drop in temperature, thus forming a unique rainfall in the city.

Howard was already in a bad mood, and this inexplicable rain made him even worse.

But worse was yet to come. When Howard came out, he never expected it would rain in the city, so he didn't bring any rain gear. He originally thought that he would just get wet in the rain, and there was no better way.

But when the raindrops fell on his exposed skin, he felt a slight tingling sensation after a while, and when he looked at his skin again, he saw that it had begun to turn slightly red.

Damn, this rain is poisonous!

In fact, condensed water is non-toxic, but when the water vapor rises and condenses, it brings down toxic dust and other pollutants in the air of the hive. The residents who have lived here for a long time have long been accustomed to this irritating rain, but Howard, who had just arrived and was delicate, had a mild allergic reaction.

Unable to think of a good solution at the moment, Howard could only run in the heavy rain with his backpack, hoping to reach his destination quickly.

But not long after running in the rain, the Ohm Messiah in his pocket suddenly vibrated. Howard took it out puzzled and saw a few large words written on the screen:

Watch your back.

Then, Howard heard the roar of an engine coming from behind him and strong lights approaching rapidly.

Howard leaped to the side of the road, and the next moment a steampunk-style motorcycle whizzed past where he was standing. The speed was so fast that the cheers from the motorcyclist sounded like a Doppler effect to Howard.

Howard naturally thought that the Governor's men had caught up with him, so he got up and ran towards the nearest alley.

After hiding in the alley, the motorcycle could not get in, so the motorcyclist got off the car, pulled out a baseball bat, put it on his shoulder, and followed into the alley.

"Little rabbit, I'm here to catch you—" As he walked into the alley, the knight deliberately said loudly, "Dear audience, let's see where the frightened little rabbit will run to."

Then Howard, who was lying in ambush in the alley, jumped down from above and rode on his head.

Howard knew that this was not his home court, and his equipment and physical fitness were not as good as the Cavaliers, so the possibility of successfully escaping was very slim. So after running into the alley, he immediately used his hands and feet to push off the walls on both sides and climbed to a height of more than three meters, waiting for the other party to walk below him and then launch a sneak attack.

Howard pressed his knees on the knight's shoulders, and the opponent staggered. However, compared with Howard, the opponent was a genetically modified superman over two meters tall. The effect of Howard pressing on his shoulders was the same as that of a child pressing on Howard's shoulders.

"Fuck! What the hell!" The knight yelled and reached out to grab Howard, while Howard also touched the knight's eye socket, and the two exerted force at the same time.

"Puff! Puff!"

There were two collision sounds. The first was the sound of the rider throwing Howard against the wall, and the second was the sound of Howard falling from the wall to the ground. The powerful impact almost made Howard fall over.

After falling to the ground, Howard heard the Cavaliers' screams.

Just before the knight threw him out, he also dug his fingers into the knight's eyes. The feeling of poking his fingers into the eyeball was like poking a huge warm grape.

"Waaaaaaaaa! Damn you! Damn you!" The knight covered his eye sockets which had turned into two blood holes and screamed and cursed. Then he lost his sight and grabbed towards the place where Howard had just landed.

Seeing this, Howard took a deep breath, then slowly stepped back, barely missing the Cavaliers.

Then the two of them played a game of catching ghosts. Although the knight couldn't see, the alley was very short after all, so he opened his hands and groped inside little by little, uttering threats and curses as he groped.

Howard used the same trick again. He kicked the wall with his feet again to make himself hang in the air. When the Cavaliers couldn't find him after searching for a long time and were in confusion, Howard threw a piece of wall under him.

"Don't even think about escaping!" The blind knight pounced towards the place where the wall fell to the ground, but missed. Taking advantage of the moment when the knight fell to the ground, Howard loosened his legs and jumped down. This time, the weight of his whole body hit the knight's waist firmly. The knight screamed and fainted.

Howard rolled off the knight and thought that he was only suitable to be a motorcyclist and not a paladin, because he fell into the same trick twice in just a few minutes.

Howard put his hand on the Cavalier's back, and the other party still had a heartbeat.

Just when Howard thought the matter was resolved and was about to leave, he suddenly noticed something flashing on the unconscious knight's ear. He took it off and initially determined that it was a camera.

……

Howard crushed the camera with one foot, then picked up the Cavaliers' dropped baseball bat as a crutch and limped out of the alley.

Then, more lights converged on him.
