After hearing Draco's thoughts, everyone couldn't sit still.
Chapter 32: Praise Potion
Lucius looked at the potion in the old lady's hand, bewildered. He wondered what his eldest son had done behind his back. Sif had been elusive lately, and they had only met today, so he didn't know about the new potion yet. He tried to comfort the old lady, who was a little incoherent due to her excitement.
"I think this should be a gift from my naughty son to Mr. Longbottom. I have no right to take it back." He first gave the old lady a reassurance, and after a brief observation, he guessed that this potion should be very important to the old lady, no, to her son and daughter-in-law who were lying in the hospital.
Lucius thought of Draco quietly asking him why Narcissa was in a bad mood, and his suspicions grew more certain. But, if they had even developed this kind of potion?? Wouldn't a genetic potion be close too??
"This isn't some Malfoy family treasure. You should know that Draco is currently studying potions with Severus. It's probably newly developed and hasn't been published yet. Since it's a gift from the child, please accept it. As elders, we shouldn't taint the child's pure kindness with Galleons, right? Besides, you know, the Malfoys don't lack this little bit of spending."
He raised his chin deliberately, appearing a little arrogant.
Mrs. Longbottom finally recovered from her tangled emotions. She thought about what Lucius had just said, and her expression became indescribable. She swore that if it wasn't Malfoy who said that, he would have been drowned in the spit of those who hated the rich. Did he listen to what he said? But everyone knew that Malfoy was rich.
"Thank young Mr. Malfoy for me. As an old lady, I have something else to do, so I won't disturb the children from playing." Old Lady Longbottom paused.
They say that age can make a person wise. Although she had a strange temper, she could guess why the child suddenly gave Neville such a precious gift. "Mrs. Malfoy, your son loves you very much. You have a very good child." After saying this, Mrs. Longbottom hurriedly left with Neville. Narcissa knew they were heading to St. Mungo's.
"Cissy, little dragon Harry and I were very worried about you a few days ago." Lucius kissed Narcissa's forehead and half-hugged her, cleverly blocking the gazes of some people.
"I'm sorry, Luke, for making you worry. I'm fine. It's just that Bella... you know, she's completely crazy, and I was just irritated by some of her words. Now I'm okay. I have you, little dragon Harry, Sev, and Sirius, and I feel very happy." Narcissa remained silent in front of old Madam Longbottom. She just made a mistake and got stuck in a dead end.
She was so carried away by the changes in Sirius that she greedily hoped for more. She thought of her closest sister and thought she could make Bella realize that following Voldemort was not a wise choice.
Even if she had to pay the price for her mistakes, it was better than death, wasn't it? Narcissa knew that Voldemort was not dead and a war was inevitable. She hoped that Bella would return to being the gentle big sister who would always protect her.
In the end... she had intended to contact Andromeda, her sister who had married a Muggle, but Bella had been savage to her over Malfoy's betrayal of the Dark Lord. And what about Andromeda? Would she be disappointed and resentful because she hadn't reacted when her parents expelled Black?
Narcissa suddenly realized her arrogance. Perhaps others would see Lucius as the arrogant one, but in reality, he wasn't. After learning about the dragon's miraculous power, Lucius's focus was on protection. He didn't become arrogant because of his power, but instead calmly calculated the pros and cons, wary of unknown enemies that might appear in the future.
She was the arrogant one. She thought it was a gift from God and she seemed to have become the protagonist in Xiaolong's story. Her ambition began to run rampant, but she unconsciously looked down on those people from a superior perspective, thinking that her actions were good for others and they should accept them.
She put herself too high. She simply wanted to let everyone know that witches were as powerful as wizards. But her growing power made her think of herself as... a god.
She had hardly ever encountered setbacks, her lover protecting her fiercely. Perhaps Lucius had sensed Narcissa's mental issues earlier than she had, but he believed his Sissy was a clever witch who would surely adjust on her own. Even close lovers couldn't share everything. Lucius was well aware of Narcissa's deep pride.
Narcissa wasn't having trouble facing Lady Longbottom, but rather she was caught in a cycle of self-examination and self-doubt, as if trapped in a vicious circle. Draco's thoughtful behavior allowed her to see her family, and she saw Lucius, who had always been watching and waiting for her. Finally, she understood something.
Narcissa felt her mind was clearing up, and she was starting to feel a break from being stuck in the intermediate magician realm. She suppressed the elements that were faintly rioting around her, but now was not a good time.
"Cissy! Are you about to break through? Great!" Lucius keenly sensed the fluctuations of the elements. Though fleeting, he understood their significance. He looked at his wife in surprise, knowing that his Cissy had finally figured things out. He wasn't resentful that his wife was better than him; his Cissy had always been better than him, wasn't that normal?
"Soon, I think, Luke," Narcissa said pointedly.
The couple smiled at each other, feeling more assured about their family's safety.
"Perhaps we have forgotten something important." Lucius seemed to remember something.
"Why not wait until the party is over?" There was no need for things to be made clear between Narcissa and Lucius.
......
After seeing off the guests, the Weasleys also said goodbye and left. Before leaving, Ron did not forget to wink at Draco and Harry. Draco was too lazy to pay attention to him, and Harry nodded at him. Little did he know that everything was clearly seen under the eyes of adults.
Snape, who had disappeared for the entire dinner, reappeared in the living room. "You'd better be alright, Lucius." If the house-elf hadn't said he'd bang his head against the wall and die if he didn't come, he really wouldn't have wanted to come out. It really is like the owner, haha.
"Hey, Sev, don't be so irritable. Have you and Xiaolong come up with some new potion?" Lucius smiled hypocritically. "Maybe next time I can talk to poor Mr. Malfoy about it? God knows how panicked I was when old Madam Longbottom came to me and thought I knew everything. I didn't hear anything. Your humble friend won't be the last to know, right?"
Snape looked at Draco, who nodded at him, indicating that he was the closest one. He rubbed his forehead and said, "I've been too busy lately and forgot about it. It's not a big deal."
"That's a potion worth an Order of Merlin, First Class." Draco shook his head in disapproval. His godfather was too modest. Harry nodded in agreement. Then the two enthusiastically began to educate the Malfoys and Sirius. Oh, Sirius had been watching cartoons in the toy room. He had just been 'invited' out by the house-elves because he'd turned into an Animagus and punched, kicked, bit, and tore at the sofa when he got excited.
As the two young boys gave their speeches with passionate gestures, Sirius opened his mouth in surprise. Although Narcissa and Lucius had some guesses, they were once again shocked by Snape's talent in potions.
"What's the name of this potion?" Lucius carefully examined the potion Snape had just taken out. "Has it been tested?"
"Well, I tried it on that stupid dog." Snape was still thinking over the prescription for the next experiment in his mind. He leaned on the sofa and let his two beloved godsons lean on his legs and fall asleep.
"What!" Sirius stood up quickly. After receiving three pairs of death rays, he realized that he had almost woken the two children. He tiptoed to sit down and lowered his voice. "How could I not know? When? I didn't feel any discomfort."
Snape gave him a look of disdain. "There's nothing wrong with your Dementor-kissed, tattered body, but that's the biggest problem, you idiot dog." He glanced at the two little guys lying on his lap without leaving a trace. He hadn't actually intended to test the potion on Sirius, but... well, he was right. He just didn't like the idiot dog.
"You called me a stupid dog, and now you're calling me a fool. Don't go too far, Severus," Sirius muttered in grievance. But it was true that his body no longer felt cold all the time. He was indeed better, Sirius realized belatedly. He felt that he was now well enough to fight three of Voldemort's Horcruxes!
"As for the name, let's call it the Praise Potion." Praise is the first skill that Lucius and Xiaolong will learn after awakening. It can cleanse the mind and heal the soul, but it requires a high level of magic power.
Snape lowered his eyes to hide the tenderness in them. He would never forget that it was the Malfoy family who salvaged and mended his broken soul, and he would never forget that the moment he pushed the door open five years ago, the light began to shine on him.
