"Everyone, please make way. The village chief is here. The village chief is here." Someone shouted.

A thin old man with brisk steps swiftly passed through the crowd and shouted towards the door of Gu Laosan's house, "Gu Laoba, come out! The man is dead, and you let an old woman come out to make trouble. You are bringing shame to our Gu family!"

After a while, everyone from Gu Laosan's family came out, and no one was making any noise. A weak and timid old man came up to the village chief and said, "Uncle Yao, are you there? You're not making any noise. You're packing clothes and quilts."

Village Chief Gu looked around and said to Gu Lao San, "Third boy, what's going on? What's the fuss? Have you packed your things? I'll go get the ox cart and come over to help you pull it."

"Thank you, village chief. We are driving a ox cart and we will help my brother-in-law pull it." Yang Minghu came to the village chief and said.

Village Chief Gu looked at Yang Minghu, Yang Mingyang who was driving the ox cart, and Yang Laowu who had a sullen look on his face, and said, "This is even better. Third boy, your brothers-in-law are here and can help. Hurry up and ask your wife to bring out some dowry and get on the cart to take it away together."

Gu Laosan came to the village chief, called Yang Laowu "Dad", greeted Yang Minghu and Yang Mingyang, and said to the village chief: "Uncle Yao, we just need to pack up our clothes and quilts and take the food. We don't need anything else."

Village Chief Gu glanced at Old Man Gu and said, "Old Eight Gu, go in and take a look."

Old Man Gu glanced at Old Lady Gu and said, "Give it to the third child. What are you keeping it for?"

Village Chief Gu looked at the noisy Old Lady Gu and said with a dark face, "What's the point of having a woman like this? Old Eight Gu, divorce her, or you'll be a coward for the rest of your life."

After hearing what the village chief said, Old Lady Gu trotted over to Old Third Gu and hit him while saying, "Are you dumb? Why aren't you talking? Didn't you give me that set of quilts as a gift? Your brothers and sisters only had one set of quilts when they got married. How come you have two sets? Will you die if you give me one as a gift?"

"Old Gu, what do you say?" Village Chief Gu yelled at the naughty Old Lady Gu.

Old Man Gu stepped forward and slapped Old Lady Gu, knocking her to the ground. He then stepped forward and said to Old Third Gu, "Take it! Your wife brought it. Take it away! There's also food, half wheat and half corn. Move it!"

Then he followed her into the house, and after a while he took out a piece of paper and handed it to the village chief, saying, "Uncle Yao, please help me transfer the household registration."

Village Chief Gu took the deed, nodded, and asked everyone to help carry the things as they walked towards the end of the village.

At the foot of the mountain at the end of the village, there are three thatched houses with a courtyard outside. They were where Mrs. Li from the village lived alone. Later, Mrs. Li passed away, and the houses became the public property of the village. Since Gu Laosan was in a hurry to divide his family property, the village chief lent them to Gu Laosan to live in for a while.

A group of people came to the yard. Yang Mingyun was cleaning the house. Seeing a large group of people coming, he hurried out and saw Yang Laowu, his elder brother, younger brother, and people from the village.

Gu Laosan said from a distance: "Ah Yun, the village chief, the villagers, and the fathers-in-law have helped to bring your dowry here. Hurry up and open the door so they can help move the things."

Yang Mingyun opened the gate with a smile and said, "Put it outside first. It's not ready inside yet." Then he greeted the village chief and came over to greet his father and brothers and sisters.

Everyone helped together and quickly moved the things down. Yang Mingyang parked the ox cart in the yard, untied the ox, let the old ox graze in the yard, and then went in to help Yang Mingqian clean up the house.

After a simple tidying up, Yang Mingyun urged Yang Laowu to pick up Yang Mingmo. Yang Mingxi smiled and said, "Sister, let your brother drive the ox cart. We will help you pack up here. We will meet at the river over there in an hour." After that, she pointed to the small river not far from the house where Yang Mingyun was temporarily staying.

When heading towards Yang Mingyun's house, Yang Mingxi discovered that although Yang Mingyun's house was at the end of the village, because the small river surrounded the village, the house where Yang Mingyun lived was not far from the river. Seeing that there were still people walking by the river, it meant that they could cross the river, but the ox cart still had to go around on the bridge at the entrance of the village.

Yang Mingxi helped clean up the house. The bed and other things were still there when Mrs. Li lived there before. Yang Mingxi asked her second brother and father to move them to the firewood shed outside, and moved Yang Mingxi's dowry bed back into the room, made the bed, and let her little nephew lie on it.

Yang Mingyun had already tidied up the house outside, replacing the dowry furniture with new ones, giving it a brand new look. It was now habitable for the time being, though the thatched roof still needed repairs.

After a while, Gu Lao San came back with a basket of vegetables on his back. There were big, fresh and tender lettuces, plump white cabbages, cute and lovely, and a basket of green peppers. Yang Mingxi loved them. As Gu Lao San put down the basket, he said, "These are the only three things we planted on the land allocated to us. I'll pick some and you can take them back for a meal."

Yang Laowu continued, "Take it to the county and sell it. We just moved and have a lot of things to buy. Use the copper coins you sell to buy some things for now, and then buy more later." He took out the three taels of silver that Wu had brought and handed it to Yang Mingyun, saying, "This is from your mother. Use it first. If it's not enough, send me a message and we'll find a way."

Yang Mingyun pushed back Yang Laowu's hand that was offering him the money and said, "No need, Dad. The money is enough for us for now. We don't need to buy anything. Just a few bowls. The rest will be enough for now." Then he looked towards the river and said, "Dad, please take Dad and the others to the river. Mo'er should be here soon."

Yang Mingxi looked up at the sky, figuring her brother should be near the river, so she called him and her father and prepared to go home. Before leaving, Yang Mingxi said to Yang Mingyun, "Sister, I think the location of this house is pretty good. You could consider buying it. You could also reclaim the wasteland next to it, and that way you could make a good living."

Yang Mingyun nodded and said, "I told your brother-in-law this yesterday after we looked at the area." He then pointed to a vegetable garden not far ahead and said, "That's the land allocated to us. It's close to here too. If we open up the garden on the side, we can connect it and make it easier to manage. We'll slowly get it ready."

Yang Mingxi nodded and led everyone towards the river. Gu Laosan accompanied them all the way to the river, watching Yang Mingmo and the others approach from a distance before turning back.

Yang Mingxi looked at the slowly approaching figure and listened to the faint laughter. She finally breathed a sigh of relief. At least her second sister was doing well now.

After a while, Yang Minghu drove an ox cart carrying Yang Mingmo, followed by another ox cart driven by his second brother-in-law Li Lin, and walked towards the river.
