Chapter 214: Yang Lao 5 Teaching His Son 1
Yang Mingyang walked out of the yard slowly. He looked up at the sky. The sun was shining brightly and there was a gentle breeze. Then he walked briskly towards the vast fields.
It was summer, and the rice in the paddy fields was growing luxuriantly, a lush green sea. They swayed gently in the breeze, as if dancing joyfully. However, since the rice was growing well, it didn't require much manual intervention or labor, so there wasn't much to do at this time.
Meanwhile, in the dry land off to the other side, it was bitter melon season. Pile upon pile of bitter melons filled the fields, plump and juicy. Yang Mingyang wondered if his father would be busy in the bitter melon fields by then.
As expected, when Yang Mingyang reached the gentle slope above the paddy field, he immediately saw Yang Laowu walking back with a hoe on his shoulder. Yang Laowu's steps were steady, but he looked a little tired.
Yang Mingyang greeted Yang Laowu enthusiastically from a distance: "Dad, stop working and go home for dinner!"
Hearing the shout, Yang Laowu raised his head and waved in the direction of his son, indicating that he had heard it. When the two of them got closer, Yang Laowu keenly noticed that Yang Mingyang's expression seemed a little off.
Yang Laowu asked with concern: "Ayang, are you tired after just coming back? I see that you don't look well. You need to have a good rest."
Yang Mingyang smiled slightly, shook his head quickly and replied, "Dad, don't worry, I'm not tired at all. I just got home and haven't had time to get familiar with the surroundings yet, so I wanted to walk around and take a look."
Just then, a breeze blew by. Yang Laowu suddenly frowned, fanned his nose vigorously with his hands and said, "Huh? What's that smell? Why do I feel like I smell a strong smell of pig manure?"
When Yang Mingyang heard this, he suddenly remembered that he forgot to change his shoes. He shrank his feet and said, "No, where is it? Did they pour pig manure on the bitter melon field?"
Yang Laowu's sharp eyes caught Yang Mingyang's sneaky movements, and when he moved his gaze downwards, he saw that Yang Mingyang was wearing a pair of dirty shoes, which seemed to be covered with disgusting pig manure!
He pondered for a moment and came to a conclusion: This guy must have gone to help his wife again! Thinking of this, Yang Laowu couldn't help but sigh and thought to himself: "Alas, since the second son got married, this eldest daughter-in-law has become more and more unreasonable! Now the second son's wife is still a new bride? She throws everything to the second son's wife. Now the second son can't stand it when he comes back. I'm afraid she is here to complain to me! It's just because of the brotherhood that I didn't say it out loud!"
Yang Laowu pondered this as he walked home with his second son. He couldn't help but think of his eldest son, Hu'er. After returning from an outing, he hadn't mentioned a word about this matter, and had actually turned a blind eye to his wife's behavior. If things continued like this, this family would probably fall apart sooner or later! Look at the second son's wife. She was so diligent after just getting married. Not only did she manage all the affairs inside and outside the house in an orderly manner, she also took care of the rough and tiring work in the vegetable garden. Moreover, she often took time out to go to the fields to check on the growth of the crops. She was truly able to manage the household and work hard at the same time!
What about the eldest daughter-in-law? She only cares about working in the workshop all day. Although she earns a decent amount, I haven't seen her give a single cent to the family! In fact, her family doesn't really care about her little money, but the problem is that the family situation is different now! The second daughter-in-law doesn't work, but she can't do all the housework by herself!
Besides, my wife not only needs to work in the workshop to earn money, but also has to help take care of the barn and the vegetable garden when she comes home. After all, nowadays, whether it is the barn or the vegetable garden, the scale has expanded several times compared to before! How can the second son's wife handle it all by herself?
The eldest son's wife, however, was the only one who, after work, would retreat like a tortoise to her own courtyard. She wouldn't come back until dinner time. Oh, my, her behavior was simply outrageous and excessive!
The more Yang Laowu thought about it, the angrier he became. He decided to call his sons together and have a talk with them.
When the father and son returned to the yard, they heard laughter from the kitchen from afar. Seeing his children and his second son's wife busy cooking together, Yang Laowu's mood also improved.
"Laowu, Ayang, you're back. I just got off work too. You guys take a rest, I'll go cook." Just at this time, Mrs. Wu came back from work and saw Yang Laowu and his second son, and quickly spoke.
"Well, you're back! Why are you back so late today? Don't bother. I looked at the kitchen and saw that the second son's wife and several younger brothers and sisters had probably prepared the meal!" said Yang Laowu.
"Oh, that's great. Today is really tiring. There were supposed to be eight people working in our group, but three of them didn't show up. So we have to work overtime for a while longer!" Mrs. Wu responded while pounding her sore waist with her hands.
Yang Laowu pondered inwardly. He knew his eldest daughter-in-law hadn't gone to the workshop to work today, but he hadn't expected two other people to be absent as well. He frowned and asked, "Who else hasn't gone? From now on, things in this workshop need to be strictly managed! Otherwise, if everyone does what they want, going when they want and quitting when they don't, wouldn't it be a complete mess?"
Wu said, "Liu's wife's mother-in-law fell and took a leave yesterday. He's sister-in-law's daughter gave birth two days ago and took three days off. She should be back to work tomorrow."
"Mom, Hong'er will give you some egg custard. My second sister-in-law helped make it. It's delicious. Thank you for your hard work, mom." At this moment, Honghong came up to Mrs. Wu with a bowl of egg custard.
Mrs. Wu quickly squatted down and said, "Oh, my dear Honghong, you know you feel sorry for me. Honghong, eat. I will be able to eat soon."
"Yes, Honghong, we can have dinner now. Go and call your brother and sister-in-law to come and eat!" Yang Mingxi said.
"No need, I called him when I came here just now. He should be here soon." Yang Mingyu said as he just walked in.
"Ayu, where have you been? Why don't you have a good rest?" Wu said.
"Mom, I haven't been home for a long time, so I looked around. I went to the vegetable garden and found that it was well managed. Then I went to the barn and met my second sister-in-law cleaning pig manure, and my second brother was helping. Thinking that there was nothing for me to do, I went to check on my third uncle. When I came back, I saw Dad and my second brother in front. I didn't chase after them, so I thought of calling my eldest brother to come over. It should be time for dinner soon. I could smell the fragrance of rice from a distance." Yang Mingyang said.
