Chapter 66 Goodbye, Mother

Until Betty was beaten unconscious.

From then on, Betty chose to survive this way. At least, this disguised body earned him an occasional warm smile from his mother.

Betty struggled to get up from the couch and staggered towards the door. The pain in his body made him feel exhausted like a tide, but he longed for a clear spring, so he forced himself to move forward.

As he went downstairs, he heard his mother's voice coming from inside the house, accompanied by the whispers of a rough man.

He leaned against the door frame and listened attentively.

"This price is enough. Although the foundation is good, it still requires more effort to train it."

“…Still the original price.”

"That's all."

Betty wondered what they were talking about; it seemed to involve some kind of transaction.

Suddenly, there was a crisp sound, and Betty accidentally knocked over the vase at her feet, and fell to the ground unsteadily.

The door opened, and the mother saw Betty trembling on the ground. The man also walked over and picked up Betty.

"Well, here are the silver coins, and I'll take the person away."

what for?

Betty then realized that the person her mother wanted to sell was actually herself.

He struggled hard, trying to break free from the man's restraints, but he was too injured to escape.

"Mother! Why?"

Betty cried out to her mother in disbelief. He had always been obedient, even making a living to please her, and had never had a companion.

"You have never been my biological child. This is all you are worth."

Like a bolt from the blue, these words echoed in Betty's mind, deafening.

He couldn't believe that his coming into this world was a mistake and his hope of survival was shattered.

Betty stopped struggling and became like a puppet without a soul, allowing others to manipulate her.

Until... gunshots rang out.

The man was shot in the head instantly, blood splattered everywhere, staining Betty's vision red.

"what--"

The mother was terrified and her screams pierced the silence.

Betty just stared at everything in front of her without saying a word.

"Oh, I didn't expect this trip to be so easy."

At the second-floor staircase, a man with a cigar in his mouth and a pistol in his hand walked down slowly, with white smoke still coming out of the muzzle of the gun. He said that the person lying in a pool of blood was his target.

The man pointed a gun at Betty, who stared into the black muzzle without any fear.

"Oh?" The man looked at Betty with interest and smiled.

Another gunshot was heard. The man did not look back and fired a shot with his right hand. Betty's mother fell in a pool of blood, her eyes still filled with fear of death.

Even when her mother was murdered, Betty remained indifferent, as if she were no different from a dead person.

"Bless yourself."

The man put away his gun and turned to leave, but was restrained by a force.

Looking back, he saw Betty holding the corner of his clothes, with a hint of expectation in her eyes.

"Can you take me away?"

Her dress and cheeks stained with blood, Betty stared at the man in front of her, not knowing why he was willing to follow the man who killed his mother, but he longed to survive.

"If you are not afraid of death, then follow me."

Betty followed the man away. The man lit a raging fire and burned the land that was no longer his home. Betty remained silent throughout.

Deep down, he still remembered that night when his mother stroked his head and lamented how much better it would have been if he were a girl.

"Let's go."

The man left without looking back. Betty hurried to follow him, but at the last moment she looked back at the fire, and a tear slid down her cheek.

Goodbye, mother.

……

The battle is not over yet.

Betty hid aside, half-knelt on the ground, gasping for breath, and wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.

Every attack from Teya, who has the Ryusaku body, causes Betty unbearable pain. Even though Betty has activated the Armament Haki defense, the continuous offensive makes him feel overwhelmed.

He relied entirely on his willpower to hold on. Defeat was not a big deal for him, but he hated the feeling of surrender and only wanted to lose to himself.

Betty felt exhausted from the battle and shook her head to stay awake, cheer herself up, and prepare to fight again.

"Do you want to continue?"

Thea showed no mercy, but was surprised by Betty's strong will that she could still hold on.

In terms of domineering power, Teya has the upper hand, and every attack causes damage to Betty. In terms of speed, Betty cannot avoid Teya's fierce offensive.

At this moment, half of Teya's right arm has been transformed into a pattern by the mark. The domineering aura is like blood flowing faster, making his blood boil and his desire to fight stronger.

"Hmph." Betty stared at Thea, the corners of her mouth twitching slightly, "I haven't fallen yet, don't be too proud."

In an instant, Thea rushed to Betty and punched her. Although Betty was prepared, she could not withstand the violent impact. She raised her arms to block and was knocked away.

Ouch, it hurts.

Betty felt her arms go numb, and she could hardly gather her domineering aura.

I have exhausted too much physical energy. If I continue like this, I will definitely lose. But what other countermeasures do I have?

Panting, Betty looked at the calm Thea and couldn't help but recall the past.

Ever since the fire devoured his memory, he gradually forgot the past. Until now, all he has learned is the way to fight and survive.

He only lives for one person and is unwilling to live for others.

Everything is for yourself.

Another punch, Betty was numb with pain, but she still struggled to get up, blood sliding down her forehead and dripping onto the ground.

"what!"

Betty growled, clenched her fists and rushed towards Teya. Her body was shaking and even her running seemed unsteady.

When he was a few steps away from Teya, he fell to the ground, perhaps having reached his limit.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew, and a man appeared in the middle of the field, holding a cigar. He stood beside the fallen Betty and slowly picked him up.

"Hyde..."

Betty mumbled something incoherent. The man glanced at him, then carried Betty to another exit.

The man who walked into the corridor seemed to say to himself, "Taking you away at that time might have been the wisest thing I did in my life."

He personally sent Betty to the treatment room and turned to walk towards the venue.

When he reached the door, he stopped and sighed.

Betty, my ambition has begun to take root, and I'm afraid there's no turning back...
