Space Food Storage: Daily Travel

Chapter 51: Fleeing from Famine: Hearing There Are Bandits Ahead

At the hour of Mao, the villagers of the two villages continued on their journey.

The weather had been clear for two days straight, and the roads were no longer as muddy. There was a hint of mud in the air, but it was a welcome change; the air was fresh, unlike the usual heat.

The trees and weeds along the roadside have already stretched out, and as autumn approaches, a slight chill has set in. Everyone put on a cotton-padded jacket this morning.

They had prepared more food this time. The women had already prepared simple meals for the journey yesterday. The group needed to travel as fast as possible, stopping to rest for a quarter of an hour when they were tired.

The two village chiefs also wanted to quickly settle down there. The weather was probably getting colder, but there was no shortage of water or food for the time being.

But they are afraid of the cold, especially at night, and they are worried that the elderly and children will get sick if they have to camp outside.

Every night when Liu Yuhan arrived at the camp, he would bring some herbs for the village chief and the woman to boil. They were all medicines to prevent typhoid fever.

The group hurried along like this for eight days and had already covered half of the distance. They had now entered the southern territory.

When the villagers were resting, the escort agency who was also resting on the roadside saw that they were a group of refugees fleeing famine and kindly reminded them that the Wulong Mountains were about 40 miles ahead.

The Wulong Mountains are a complex place with many hidden bandits. They often come down from the mountains every now and then to rob people on the official roads, and kill those who resist.

Because they are easy to defend and difficult to attack, the government has suppressed the bandits several times, but they have always been killed. They are ferocious and vicious, not just ordinary small-time bandits. They must be careful.

The village chief and his companions thanked them. The group hurried off with their belongings in a horse-drawn carriage, as they had to cross the Wulong Mountains before nightfall.

Why are they bandits again?! And they're already close to the bandit's lair? Looking at this group of old and young people, Liu Yuhan couldn't help but sigh.

"Don't worry, Xiaohan. How about Mom go up and take a look?"

"Wife, I will go with you."

"Mom and Dad, if you want to go, let's go together. Just like last time, we'll set off in the evening."

Both village chiefs were worried to death.

It was too late today, and I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get through the Wulong Mountains, where the escort agency said there were bandits. The village chief decided to camp nearby tonight.

Everyone was busy, some were cooking, some were setting up camp. The village chief said they had to rest early and set off at Chou time (2 a.m.) so that they could cross the mountain before dawn. They had to sleep while the bandits were still asleep!

Liu Yuhan and his parents decided to set out at 9:00 PM. They could ride horses back and forth quickly.

The family had dinner and went to bed.

The three of them had already informed their families and the village chief that they were going to take a look ahead, and asked everyone to wait for them to come back before making a decision.

The villagers were also asked to be vigilant and pay special attention tonight and have more people on duty.

Liu Yuhan entered the space, put on men's clothes, covered his face, and took out a flashlight and telescope.

At the hour of Hai, Liu rode a horse with Liu Yuhan, who was holding a flashlight, and Liu Shinan followed behind on horseback, carrying a large knife and a sword on his back.

In half an hour, they reached the so-called Wulong Mountains. This must be the place. The area ahead was like a large canyon, with dangerous terrain on both sides, so the only way to get there was via the official road.

"Jifeng, Feiyan, wait for us at the foot of the mountain. Come out when I call you, and hide when you see anyone. Okay?"

Liu Yuhan patted Feiyan's head, took out carrots and soybeans from the space to feed them, and got them some water to drink. The two horses obediently ran to the side of the forest and hid.

Liu Yuhan held a flashlight and Liu Shinan held a telescope. He was tall and could climb trees to better view the terrain.

We went up the mountain from the road ahead, which seemed to have been walked by someone. The road was really difficult to walk on, with many big rocks.

Often, the three of them had to help each other up to get up. And if they weren't careful, they could easily slip. Fortunately, both of them were wearing the non-slip mountain boots Liu Yuhan had brought.

After walking for nearly an hour, I finally saw the stars a few thousand meters away through the telescope.

In the dim light, as far as the eye can see, there are scattered thatched houses connected into a large area.

The scale was huge, dwarfing the bandit den they had previously entered. Even in the middle of the night, there were still many people patrolling the area, a very formal atmosphere.

This is not easy to do!

After the three of them discussed it, they decided to go home first.

It’s better to cross this mountain range quickly in the early morning.

The three of them returned to the same place and when they reached the foot of the mountain, Liu Yuhan looked at the time in the space and it was already 1:30 in the morning.

The three of them rode back on horseback.

Just as they were nearing the camp, Liu suddenly pulled the reins and the horse was forced to stop.

"Don't go over there, there are people there!"

The three men dismounted and slowly groped their way towards the camp.

Liu Shinan almost screamed! Liu Yuhan's heart also began to beat fast. The bandits are coming!

There were so many bandits! They were all holding polished long swords, and they were calling the villagers to gather together in a menacing manner.

They tied up the hands of all the strong men in the village with ropes.

The bandits threatened them that if the strong men resisted, they would kill the women and children.

The children and women couldn't help screaming and crying.

The bandit lost his temper and hacked the old woman next to him to death with his machete!

Blood spurted all over the floor, and everyone's eyes were bloodshot! The old woman's family was furious and ready to fight back.

"My dear friends, my dear friends, I am the village chief. Please don't do anything. I will tell them to obey. We will obey. Please don't do anything." Liu Mang, whose hands were tied, begged for mercy loudly.

He turned around and shouted fiercely at the women and children, "Don't make any noise! Shut up and don't say a word. Women, hold the children, and children, hold the hands of the elderly. Follow these strong men. If we obey, they won't hurt us."

"Liu Wazi, quickly pull your mother up and get her with the other women."

Liu Wazi suppressed the severe pain in his heart and pulled up his mother who was trembling on his murdered grandmother, and walked to the women and children in the village.

His father's hands were tied and his way was blocked by Liu Shihu and others.

"That's better than not. We brought you up the mountain to live a good life. Don't be ungrateful. Anyone who dares to resist will be killed! Carry your food on your backs," said the scarred-faced leader gloomily. He was the one who had hacked the man to death.

"Look, are all the people in your village here?" the scarred man asked the village chief, pointing his knife at him.

"Strong man, everyone is here. We came from the north and are preparing to escape the famine to the south. People from both villages are here." Liu Mang forced himself to smile.

He was so angry that he gritted his teeth into his stomach!

Fortunately, none of them came back...

Two bandits, armed with knives, led the group. A strong man with bound hands walked in front, while young men carried backpacks filled with food and led the oxen. Men with knives were watching them from all sides, front and back. Women, children, and the elderly followed behind.

Liu Yuhan saw her grandparents walking at the back. Old Lady Jiang held the hand of the visibly frightened Xu with one hand. With the other, she held Xiao Si. Liu Daling held Xiao Wu, and Li held Liu Yun and Liu Yao. Liu Guang and Liu Lu were beside her. She walked slowly and was even jostled by the bandits.

Liu Shinan's palms were red from scratching. Liu held his hands and watched her family leave with anger in her eyes.

The road the bandits led was actually from the back of where they were resting! Over there was a low forest.

What does this mean? Is this possible?
