Time Travel: The Queen's Coronation

Chapter 37 Tooth Extraction

I woke up as usual, but today something felt different. I thought it was just another inflamed wisdom tooth, so I ignored it. After all, it had been there since freshman year, so it had been perfectly aligned since then, so I ignored it. It gets inflamed from time to time, but it's nothing serious and will heal on its own in a few days. It wasn't until I took a bite of breakfast that I realized this wasn't so simple! Every bite felt like biting my gums! I couldn't eat the solid buns anymore, so I had to grab Rong Zixuan's corn juice.

The first thing I did when I got back to the dorm after class was to look in the mirror to see what was growing inside! I couldn't see anything either. I licked it with my tongue and only felt something sharp. Could it be a wisdom tooth? It had already grown on one side, so how could it grow on the other side? In high school, I saw classmates getting their wisdom teeth removed and I thought I wouldn't have any more. But when they did grow in college, they were aligned, and I was secretly glad. I never thought that by this time, they had grown on the other side too, and they might have grown crookedly! I washed my hands and touched them, and indeed, I felt something sharp! I started to get scared, scared of having the tooth removed, scared of the pain!

I was depressed for the next few days and ate very little. Rong Zixuan noticed something was wrong and asked, "Aqing, what's wrong with you?"

"I have wisdom teeth!" I said aggrievedly.

"Oh no! I didn't think it was a big deal. This is normal! I had them when I was in high school and had them removed. But didn't you say your wisdom teeth were aligned?"

"The right side has grown evenly, but the left side has only just grown out and is growing crookedly," I sighed.

"Ah! No wonder you've lost your appetite recently. Don't worry, we can find a time to have the tooth extracted."

"I fear pain!"

"It's anesthesia, it won't hurt!"

“The pain still persists even after the anesthesia wears off.”

“The doctor will prescribe painkillers.”

"Do the painkillers work?"

"It works! I ate chicken legs directly on the day I had a tooth pulled without any fear!"

"You're so brave, aren't you afraid of the wound getting infected?"

"In fact, the gums are alive, and the wound from tooth extraction will heal on its own! Rinse your mouth after eating and keep your mouth clean, and you don't have to worry about infection."

"Don't lie to me!"

"How dare I! Tomorrow is Friday. We don't have classes after 10am. I'll take you to the hospital to have your tooth pulled."

"I'm still scared!"

"Don't worry, I'm here," Rong Zixuan assured me, patting his chest.

"Then I'll believe you. If it hurts, I'll pinch you!"

"No problem, pinch as much as you want," he hugged me.

After class on Friday, he rented a car and drove me to the hospital. But strangely, they required cash to register. Who carries cash these days? He had no choice but to run to a nearby ATM, then go to a store to get change before finally getting me an appointment. We waited in line for over an hour before the doctor, after listening to my description, ordered an X-ray. We paid for it. Fortunately, the number of people waiting for X-rays wasn't high, so our turn arrived quickly. However, by the time we got the results, the hospital was closing for the morning, and the doctor was gone. I still had to endure this wisdom tooth for several more hours.

My teeth are crooked and affect my bite, so I dare not eat. Every time I chew, my gums are rubbed. My gums are really sensitive. Normally, they will swell if they are accidentally scratched by the toothbrush, let alone the direct friction of the sharp wisdom teeth.

"Here, you need to eat something to fill your stomach after having a tooth pulled this afternoon, otherwise you won't have enough energy to burn." Rong Zixuan handed me a cup of milk tea. "I know you can't bite it, so we'll have some porridge later. You don't have to bite it, you can just swallow it."

I didn't know what to say, I just wanted to stay quietly in his arms for a while.

That afternoon, I lay on the operating table. First, I received an anesthetic. Shouldn't the anesthetic relieve pain? But why was the procedure so painful? After the anesthetic took effect, the doctor placed a piece of paper or cloth over my face, leaving only a small opening for my mouth, and told me to open my mouth wide. My eyes were covered with the cloth, so I couldn't see the doctor's operations. However, I heard a sound like a power drill, and the doctor yanked my tooth out with all his might. My head felt like it was being hammered into my tooth. Afterward, it felt like nails were being hammered into my tooth. After about an hour, the surgery was finally over. My mouth was still numb, and I couldn't speak clearly. The doctor prescribed painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication, telling me to take them when it hurts. He also gave me some simple warnings: never spit, but to swallow any saliva. Also, I couldn't drink through a straw. Avoid any sucking movements to avoid dislodging the blood covering the wound, as infection could cause serious problems. I'd come back a week later to have the stitches removed.

After the tooth extraction, I was completely exhausted and fell asleep in the back seat. It was Rong Zixuan who woke me up when we got out of the car. I returned to the dorm, immediately took off my shoes, and rushed to bed, hoping to forget the pain in my sleep. I woke up again to my phone vibrating. It was Rong Zixuan calling me. I was feeling uncomfortable talking, so I sent him a message on QQ. He also told me to come down and get a bowl of porridge to replenish my energy.

The next day, my mouth was full of the smell of blood. When I woke up in the morning, Zheng Lan and the others were shocked because there was blood at the corners of my mouth. I was also very careful when eating. I only ate softer foods like sweet potatoes and potatoes that didn't require chewing. I brushed my teeth slowly in front of the mirror, for fear of touching the wound. In the following days, the wound slowly healed and the pain gradually subsided, so I dared to brush my teeth more vigorously. For seven days, my food consisted of sweet potatoes, potatoes, and steamed fish. I only ate things that could be crushed without chewing. I didn't even dare to eat rice. After a week of this diet, my weight actually dropped! It turns out that losing weight requires a good diet! Later, the stitches were removed in a short while. I was still doing my heart treatment, but I didn't expect the doctor to have already removed them. I only felt the stitches being pulled out, but there was no pain. It was amazing!

Although the stitches were removed, a cavity remained after the tooth extraction. The doctor advised me to rinse my mouth vigorously to clean the cavity and prevent debris from accumulating and becoming inflamed. I rinsed my mouth vigorously afterwards, but I guess I was rinsing too hard, and the cavity still felt slightly painful, so I had to use less pressure. It took a month for the cavity to slowly heal, but I missed out on mooncakes in the process!

Thinking back to Rong Zixuan's busy figure at the hospital, I finally realized how wonderful it is to have someone by my side. I no longer have to shoulder everything on my own; I have someone to share my burdens with. In the past, whether I was sick or going out, I was always alone. Late at night, I felt sad without anyone by my side, and my already lonely heart felt even lonelier. Now, by some strange coincidence, I've been given the opportunity to change, and one thing led to another, leading to the wonderful life I have today.
