Time Travel: The Queen's Coronation
Chapter 22 Time Letter
It's winter again. Last winter, when I first arrived, I wasn't quite acclimated to the dry, cold weather of the north. But a year later, I've slowly adapted. On days when the snow falls heavily, I still think of that southern girl, thrilled at the sight of snow. That southern girl, after a year, has become more mature and steady. This year has been so short, so short it seems like I just arrived in Yanjing yesterday. And yet, this year seems so long, so long that so many incredible things have happened. I stood by the window, admiring the snowfall, gently and slowly covering the trees, the pedestrians' umbrellas, and the ground. Suddenly, my phone vibrated, pulling my mind back from the snowy scene. I opened it. It was from QQ Mail, a time letter, written by the me of last year to the me of this year.
I opened the letter and read word by word what I had expected of myself last year. I found it quite interesting, so I went to my desk, picked up a pen and paper, and listed the items one by one to see if I had completed them.
The first item was to get a scholarship. I'd already achieved this. Last semester, my freshman GPA was top of the class, and I also passed the physical fitness test, so it was no surprise that I got the scholarship. The second item was to learn a foreign language. I used my spare time to teach myself Japanese. Since Japanese is derived from Chinese, it was relatively easy to learn, and I've already passed the N5 exam. The third item was to read at least one book a month. Although some months were busy and I didn't reach my goal of reading at least one book a month, I did read more when I had more free time. On average, I'd reached one book a month, so I can barely consider this item accomplished. The fourth item was to have a good figure. My BMI is currently within the normal range, and while I don't have a six-pack, I'm still well-proportioned. Everyone has different standards for what makes a good figure, but by my standards, I've achieved it. The fifth item was to get a driver's license. I've already completed this item, and I also got my US driver's license, which is more than I expected. The sixth item was to have a savings of , which I've even exceeded. I never thought that I was still working part-time a year ago, but this year I have transformed myself into a million-dollar blogger and a popular online novelist. It's really amazing.
……
There are a total of twenty items, eighteen of which I've completed, leaving two unfinished. One is learning a musical instrument, but I haven't really made any progress on it this year, being so busy with other things that I've put it out of my mind. The other is learning to ski. I had a bad fall last year, but I didn't expect I still had the desire to conquer the ski resort. I've been so busy with various things this semester that I haven't even gone to the ski resort once. With less than a month left in the year, I'm sure I won't be able to learn it in such a short time, so I won't be able to complete this one either. Looking back at the ambitious goals I wrote last year, I forgot about them and couldn't even remember they existed. I finally completed them by accident, but it's just a habit I've always had. I still need to have a positive attitude and a desire to constantly learn.
After reading last year's Time Letter, and now that it's the end of the year, I decided to write another Time Letter to myself next year! Let's see if next year will be better or worse. I firmly believe it will be better! Since I've been writing a novel, writing has been very smooth. I wrote a message to myself, and then, like last year, I made a list of goals. I'll copy this list into a notebook, divide it into time points, and create a timeline, so I can slowly complete them and continuously enrich my life. I finished writing it and sent it to the Time Postman. I hope that when I open it next year, I'll be filled with joy, knowing that I've made so much progress and achieved so many goals in the past year.
Looking back, I muddled through my four years of college, achieving my goals with a dismal success rate, leaving me with only regret at not being able to accomplish anything. My lack of English proficiency cost me a job at a foreign company, and my lack of database skills meant I missed out on a job at an IT company. My lack of exercise left me perpetually overweight and love-struck... Now, my life has rewound. I've taken a different path, made different choices, chosen to be more proactive, cherish my time, and keep moving forward with positive feedback. Now, I'm even more confident about the future.
