Time Travel: The Queen's Coronation
Chapter 19 Campus Singer
The annual Top Ten Campus Singers competition has arrived again. This time, Rong Zixuan, Hu Ning, Zheng Lan, Liu Xiu, and Liang Yan have all signed up. Half of our class has signed up, and the other classes have also registered. I don't know what's so appealing about this competition, attracting so many people to sign up. Back in the dorm, I decided to find out.
"Xiu'er, why did you all sign up for the Top Ten Campus Singers? Is the prize money generous?"
"Don't you know?"
"What do you know?"
"One of the organizers of this Campus Singer competition is a company founded by a former Jinghua graduate. This company also hosts the popular online singing variety show 'Singing Life.' They have people following the auditions throughout and will select the right contestants to appear on 'Singing Life.' This is a great opportunity!"
"Ah~ You want to be a star!"
"It doesn't matter if I become a star or not. The most important thing is why not strive for the opportunity. Besides, I really like singing."
"Oh, yes, you sing well."
"When you become famous or rich in the future, don't forget me," I patted Liu Xiu's shoulder and joked.
"Oh, this is not going to happen at all."
"And you two, the great singer Hu and the great star Zheng."
"Look at what you said. We are just fighting for an opportunity, it's not a sure thing."
"However, we might be practicing singing in the dormitory these days, so it might be a bit noisy, so please bear with me."
"It's okay, I'll just listen to some music."
Over the next few days, bursts of singing filled the dorm. Not just the dorm, but the entire building. In the hallways, in the corridors, by the grove... anywhere there was singing, people were practicing. By the time I got back to the dorm from the library, I'd heard nearly ten songs. Some were beautiful, others might have missed the mark. Because so many people registered, the preliminary rounds took two weeks to complete. Rong Zixuan and Zheng Lan made it to the semifinals, while Hu Ning, Liu Xiu, and Liang Yan were eliminated in the first round. There were 50 contestants in the semifinals, and the top ten were striving to advance to the finals.
Zheng Lan and Rong Zixuan entered the semi-finals together, so they went to the KTV near the school to practice singing together after class. Zheng Lan's boyfriend and I had to take turns to be their audience, because if Rong Zixuan and Zheng Lan were alone, there might be some rumors. After all, both of them had boyfriends or girlfriends, so Zheng Lan's boyfriend and I had to take turns to accompany them to practice singing.
During the practice sessions, I found that both of their voices were pretty good. Zheng Lan's voice was crisp and melodious, while Rong Zixuan's was deep and emotional. I quite enjoyed listening to them sing. However, just listening to them sing the same song back and forth made my ears a little calloused. I even learned to sing it myself.
The semi-finals were packed with talented performers. The first girl's singing was captivating, a true feast for the ears. The second boy's voice was powerful, immersive, and the third girl's voice was full of storytelling, making it feel like they were there... The previous contestants were all incredible, and I couldn't help but worry about Rong Zixuan and Zheng Lan. Their performance was in the middle, which I thought was a bit risky because the judges would have a strong impression of the previous and subsequent songs, and a mid-performance performance wouldn't leave a strong impression on them. After all, the judges would have heard many songs before, and would inevitably experience auditory fatigue.
I dressed Rong Zixuan up today, combing his hair into a suit-like hairstyle, just like a domineering CEO, and bought him a blue suit. He's already tall and straight, so he looks ten times more handsome in a suit. I also put some light makeup on him, so I think this makeup look deserves a high score.
Zheng Lan appeared a few spots earlier than Rong Zixuan. Her score was not in the top ten yet, which seemed quite bleak. After Rong Zixuan finished singing, his score was even lower than Zheng Lan's, so he was also out of the top ten. However, hard work is always rewarded. There was a scout from an agency on the scene. He thought Zheng Lan had good looks and invited her to discuss a contract and shoot a music video for her song. Zheng Lan's uncle is a lawyer. After showing the contract to her uncle and making sure there were no traps, Zheng Lan signed a contract to be the female lead in the music video. Later, she found out that the singer she was collaborating with was a popular rock singer. Zheng Lan was very happy and couldn't wait to start filming so that she could meet the singer.
Rong Zixuan didn't make the top ten, but he wasn't upset. After all, he wasn't the type to get upset after losing a competition. Inspired by Zheng Lan and Rong Zixuan's singing, I wrote a song, but I only had the lyrics; I couldn't compose the music. Rong Zixuan plays guitar and understands music, so after his competition, I pestered him to compose the music for my song. Once he finished composing, I asked him to sing it for me. If I found any flaws, I asked him to revise it. It was a simple song, but we spent a week revising it, and I was very satisfied with the final product.
Later, I also attended the finals of the Campus Top Ten Singers competition. The contestants who made it to the finals were truly exceptional. Each one blazed high notes with impressive technique, and I heard they even used various vibratos. I only heard that because I don't know much about music theory, I couldn't tell if they used vibratos or not; I just knew based on other people's comments and discussions. In the end, first place went to a junior, second to a freshman, and third to a senior. They all received invitations to perform on "Singing Life." I later watched "Singing Life." The senior, a talented and creative singer, amassed a large following. After graduation, she signed with a record company and became a full-time artist. Combined with her reputation as a top student and her high emotional intelligence, she enjoyed immense popularity upon her debut. The freshman came from a well-off family, and singing was just a hobby. She gained a following thanks to her cheerful personality, but ultimately focused on her studies and didn't sign with an agency. She usually posted about her daily life on her social media accounts and interacted with her fans. My junior is also doing well. His personal account has gained hundreds of thousands of followers, and he's also been able to get advertising. However, I later heard that he was so obsessed with advertising and promotions that he neglected his studies, failed several courses, and received a warning from the college. Seeing this, I'm a little relieved that Rong Zixuan didn't make the top ten. Faced with temptation, I'm not sure he could resist. Money can be earned later, but the main goal now is to do well in school. After all, he studied hard for more than a decade to get into Jinghua, a top university. He can't afford to lose the apple and the watermelon.
