Chaos Spirit Field

Chapter 1 Chaos Spiritual Field

Zhao Shanhe's eyes widened as starlight streamed through the cracks in the roof onto his face. He wondered what kind of guesthouse would be in such a state. He wondered if it would leak when it rained. The quilt he was wearing was tattered and smelled foul. Even a beggar under the overpass wouldn't pick it up.

Looking at the disproportionate little hands, he lost himself in memories. He remembered the rainy day when he'd believed a classmate's lies and headed for northern Myanmar to make a fortune. He'd just been smuggled across the border from Yunnan when he stumbled upon a video of Ga Yaozi. It was then that he realized he'd been tricked. To protect his virgin kidneys, he took advantage of the group leader's inattention and leaped. Who could have imagined that beneath the seemingly flat grass lay a bottomless abyss?

Zhao Shanhe's memory was frozen at that moment. It was impossible to verify what exactly happened. As expected, he had died, reborn. Perhaps the Mengpo soup was counterfeit, or perhaps the spiritual field within his mind allowed him to retain memories of his past life. The latter was more likely.

He was reborn, or more accurately, reincarnated. He didn't have many memories of this life, as he had been a fool for eight years because of the spiritual field.

In this life, his name is Zhao Shanhe, and the villagers affectionately call him "Er Shazi." His father's name is Zhao Dabao, and his mother's name is Yang Xiaoe. There are five people in his family.

The eldest brother, Zhao Shanjiang, is fourteen years old this year. His name is Zhao Shanhe, and he is the second child. He has a younger sister named Zhao Shanhu. If his mother has another child, the name will probably be Zhao Shanbo.

Their names were chosen by their uncle. If they had asked the village teacher to name them, it would have cost ten cents for each name.

Zhao Shanhe didn't cry or make a fuss when he was born, and his eyes were lifeless. A traveling doctor diagnosed that he had been possessed by a tiger and would be a fool if he grew up.

Zhao Dabao and his wife scoffed at the itinerant doctor's words, but reality slapped them in the face. From then on, Zhaojia Village had one more idiot, and the Zhao family also had one more burden.

The itinerant doctor was right. Zhao Shanhe was indeed possessed by a spirit, not a mountain lion, but the spiritual field within his mind. Whether this spiritual field originated from Earth or this world was unknown; perhaps it was a benefit for those who traveled through time.

Zhao Shanhe felt that although he was a reincarnation, he still carried the memories of his previous life and should be considered a time traveler. It was normal for him to have some benefits.

He felt that the spiritual field in his mind had a great origin. Apart from anything else, just the name sounded very domineering, after all, it started with chaos.

The spiritual field was very small, about one square meter, its height invisible. A stone tablet stood in the middle of the field, detailing its details. The field was called the Chaos Spiritual Field, capable of cultivating all things in the world. There were seven levels of spiritual fields, categorized by red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, blue, and purple. His was the Chaos Red Spiritual Field, presumably the lowest level.

Zhao Shanhe felt that he was the protagonist of this world, but the reality slapped him in the face. The introduction of the Chaos Red Spirit Field sounded very impressive, but its specific functions were very boring. It couldn't store anything, including plant seeds. It was just a showpiece.

The younger sister turned over and slapped Zhao Shanhe in the face, bringing him back to reality from his fantasy. The biggest problem now was getting his family to accept that he was not a fool.

The sun rises and the moon sets, and a new day begins. His parents are out working in the fields, and his eldest brother, Zhao Shanjiang, is out gathering herbs in the mountains. His six-year-old sister has to take care of this clueless brother.

Near noon, a visitor arrived. From his parents' greeting, Zhao Shanhe learned that the visitor was his uncle, Yang Xiaozhu, and that he had good news.

"Brother-in-law, second sister, I asked the immortal master for a resurrection talisman, and Shanhe's illness can be cured."

Zhao Dabao saw that Yang Xiaozhu took out the yellow talisman but didn't take it. He asked, "Xiaozhu, this talisman costs quite a bit of money, right?"

"Brother-in-law, money is not a big deal. The most important thing is that I can cure Shanhe's illness."

"Xiao Zhu, we're brothers, let's be clear about the bill. How much is it?"

"Brother-in-law, it's only ten cents. Do you have to be so clear with me?"

Zhao Dabao knew that Yang Xiaozhu was not telling the truth, so he could only keep his gratitude in his heart and repay him when he had the chance.

A flash of red light passed, and the soul-calling talisman turned to ash and fell into the bowl. Zhao Shanhe suppressed his nausea and drank the talisman water in the bowl. Then, pretending to wake up from a dream, he said, "Daddy, Mommy."

Yang Xiao'e said excitedly: "My dear, Shanhe can call me mother now. This talisman is really effective. Son, call me again."

"Mother."

Yang Xiao'e shed tears of excitement. After years of waiting, her son finally became more than a fool. She said, "Shanhe, kowtow to your uncle."

Yang Xiaozhu quickly said, "Second sister, you are being too formal. Shanhe, call me uncle."

"uncle."

Yang Xiaozhu stretched out a finger and asked, "Shanhe, what is this?"

Zhao Shanhe shook his head. He had been a fool for eight years and should not know how to count.

"Uncle, I don't know."

"Shanhe, this is one, remember it?"

"Uncle, I remember it."

Zhao Dabao asked: "Xiao Zhu, Shanhe still seems a little stupid, he doesn't even know Yi."

"Brother-in-law, Shanhe's soul has just been summoned back, so it's normal that he can't count. It's great that he can speak."

"That's what you said. I was too impatient."

"Brother-in-law, Shanjiang?"

"He went to Funiu Mountain to collect herbs. Xiao Zhu, what are you going to do this time?"

"Brother-in-law, I've been ordered to collect ginseng, preferably one that's over a hundred years old. Has anyone in the village found any?"

"I haven't heard of anyone picking a century-old ginseng recently. Zhao Goudan from the west end of the village picked a fifty-year-old one."

"Fifty years won't do. That's too far off. It has to be at least eighty years."

"Xiao Zhu, Funiu Mountain has been in turmoil lately. Some people have seen ginseng in the Black Water Pond and the old forest. If you want to collect ginseng that's over a hundred years old, you have to go deeper. I think your trip will be in vain."

"Brother-in-law, I made a promise in front of the master, what should I do now?"

"Xiao Zhu, don't worry, I'll go out and help you think of a solution."

"Brother-in-law, as long as it's ginseng that's over a hundred years old, I'll pay double the price."

"Wife, please take good care of Xiao Zhu. I'll go find Zhao Dagou and ask him to think of a solution."

The Zhao family's village is called Zhaojia Village, nestled against the Funiu Mountains. As the saying goes, "live by the mountain, eat by the mountain; live by the water, eat by the water." Besides farming, most villagers make a living by gathering herbs and hunting.

Zhao Dabao used to be an excellent herbalist. He and Zhao Dagou were the only ones in the village who had collected ginseng that was over a century old. Once, while collecting herbs in the mountains, he encountered a tiger. While trying to escape, he broke his leg and became lame. From then on, he never went into the mountains again and became a farmer.

A tiger is a giant, mutated tiger. It's said to possess the power to capture the soul, and if you encounter one, there's virtually no escape. Zhao Dabao escaped a tiger by jumping off a cliff. Although he broke his leg, at least he was saved.
