Detective Conan: The System Takes Me to Zero's World

Chapter 595 Tunnel Warfare: The Battle for ES Dark Amber's Chips

Conan raised an eyebrow after reading the message: "Vermouth is quite concerned, but she definitely has her own plans."

Amuro Tooru walked to Kudo Yuki's side, gently brushed aside her hair that was ruffled by the night wind, and whispered, "The most important task now is to stop Rum and get the core chip. I have already contacted the people who are secretly assisting and have them set up surveillance around the tunnel."

Kudo Yuki looked up at him, a smile in her eyes: "Tou's efficiency is still so high. Uncle Toichi said, 'Next time you infiltrate, bring more smoke grenades.' I've already asked Kaito to prepare them. I'll also ask him to improve his disguise skills. I might need his help later."

The mouse hopped onto Amuro Tooru's shoulder, its chubby little paws pointing out the window: "Xiaoxue! Amuro Tooru! There's someone watching us from the rooftop in the distance!"

Kudo Yuki and Amuro Tooru looked up at the same time and saw a figure leaning against the railing on the roof of a tall building in the distance. Although there was a distance between them, the familiar aura was impossible to ignore.

Conan frowned: "What's Mr. Akai doing here?"

Amuro Tooru's eyes flashed with wariness: "The FBI always likes to show up uninvited."

Kudo Yuki gently patted the mouse's little head: "Akai Shuichi is probably keeping an eye on Rum and Gin's movements for us, since the FBI is also paying attention to Project ES Dark Amber."

Ai Haibara suddenly spoke, her fingers rapidly tapping on the computer keyboard: "Cracking the core chip will still take time. Rum's car will probably pass through Tunnel No. 3 in half an hour. We need to formulate an interception plan as soon as possible."

Kudo Yuki picked up the magician's divination cards, their surfaces gleaming softly under the light: "The plan is simple. We'll split into two groups. Toru and I will go to the tunnel to intercept them, while Conan and Ai Haibara will stay here to continue cracking the key, and Kagekawa and Kazami will be in charge of perimeter security."

Amuro Tooru reached out and grasped Kudo Yuki's hand, feeling the warmth on his fingertips: "I'm here."

Conan has already picked up his skateboard: "Let's hurry up and get going, we don't have much time!"

At the entrance to Mihana-cho Tunnel No. 3, the night wind swirled dust across the road, and the dim streetlights cast long shadows at the tunnel entrance.

Kudo Yuki and Amuro Tooru, who were hiding behind the bushes next to the tunnel, heard the roar of an engine in the distance. Two headlights pierced the night and were heading towards the tunnel.

"It's those two cars that were chasing us." Amuro Tooru pressed his fingertip on the miniature communicator and whispered to Morofushi Kagemitsu and Kazami Yuya, "Be vigilant and don't reveal your location."

Kudo Yuki squinted, using the moonlight to make out the driver's seat of the first car.

The woman gripping the steering wheel had a distinct profile; it was none other than Rena Mizunashi, who hadn't been seen in any organizational operations for quite some time.

She pressed the accelerator hard, causing the car to bounce slightly on the road. Cohen, in the passenger seat, held a sniper rifle, his goggles slid down to his nose, his cold eyes scanning the surroundings, the muzzle of his gun always in a vigilant position.

"Rena Mizunashi is actually working for Gin?" Kudo Yuki's eyes flashed with surprise. "She's clearly a CIA agent. Could it be that Gin has something on her?"

“Not necessarily.” Amuro Tooru’s gaze was fixed on the approaching vehicle. “Gin is currently being monitored by Karasuma Renya, and his actions are restricted in many ways. Rena Mizunashi’s appearance at this time is more like she is carrying out a CIA mission, and incidentally helping us to restrain Rum.”

Rena Mizunashi's car had just reached the tunnel entrance.

Cohen raised his hand and pressed the earpiece, listened silently for a few seconds, and then said, "Gin's instructions are to confirm that it is safe inside the tunnel before allowing passage, and to check for ambushes on both sides."

Rena Mizunashi paused, slowing the car to a complete stop. As she turned to respond, her left hand naturally fell to her side to adjust the seatbelt. Using the action of pulling the seatbelt, she quickly tapped three times on the bottom of the car door.

This is an internal CIA code word meaning "to cooperate in an act and hide one's accomplice."

She then raised her hand and pressed the communicator next to her ear, seemingly replying to Gin, but in reality, she made a "clenched fist and then unfolded" gesture with her palm facing the direction of the tunnel. The movement was very small and was obscured by the steering wheel.

Cohen's attention was on the bushes and high places on both sides of the tunnel. He only caught a glimpse of her adjusting her communicator and did not suspect anything.

In his eyes, as an "Er" recognized by the organization, it was only natural for Rena Mizunashi to obey orders and confirm communications.

Another engine sound came from afar, and the headlights of a third vehicle pierced the night as it headed toward the tunnel.

Kudo Yuki's pupils contracted slightly as she looked through the binoculars and saw that the man in the driver's seat was none other than Akai Tsutomu.

The blonde girl in the passenger seat was wrapped in a thick coat, the collar turned up high to cover half of her face. Although she was petite, she exuded a sharp aura and her eyes were cold. The warmth of the thick coat did nothing to diminish the murderous intent surging in her eyes. It was Mary Akai.

Amuro Tooru was slightly surprised: "According to the plan, they should have returned to the safe house... How did they end up here?"

After parking the car, Akai Tsutomu opened the door, a cold smile on his face, and said loudly to Mizunashi Rena, "Gin sent you to keep an eye on the tunnel? We MI6 also want a piece of the pie with Rum's goods."

Rena Mizunashi raised an eyebrow in agreement, her tone cold: "It's up to you to decide. But I'm warning you, Rum's people are not to be trifled with, and the tunnel's internal structure is complex. During our inspection just now, we found a potential rockfall hazard in the middle section, which will take about ten minutes to clear. You'd better not make any rash moves."

As she spoke, she pointed deep into the tunnel, seemingly warning of a dangerous area, but actually indicating the transfer route of the core chip. Her lips moved in unison, silently conveying: "We'll be there in ten minutes. Get ready."

Upon hearing this, Cohen subconsciously looked towards the middle of the tunnel and believed the claim of a "rockfall hazard".

Checking site safety before organizing an operation is a routine procedure, and Mizunashi Rena's statement is consistent with the mission logic.

"It seems they reached a temporary agreement." Amuro Tooru's lips curled into a sneer. "Rena Mizunashi needs the help of the Akai couple to break free from Gin's control, while the Akai couple also want to take the opportunity to obtain the core chip of the ES Dark Amber Project and stop Rum's conspiracy."

Mary Akai's appearance was unexpected, but even after shrinking, she remained agile and had excellent stealth abilities. Cohen would never have imagined that this "blonde girl" was an MI6 agent.

Kudo Yuki put away the magician's divination cards, stood up, and brushed the grass clippings off her clothes: "The situation is in our favor now. Toru, we should make our move."

Amuro Tooru gripped Kudo Yuki's hand, his eyes gleaming: "Let's go. Remember, if you encounter any danger, immediately hide behind me."

The two figures flashed and, taking advantage of the shadows at the tunnel entrance, silently slipped into the tunnel.

The tunnel was pitch black, with only the faint sound of wind in the distance and the occasional dripping of water from the rock wall.

Kudo Yuki and Amuro Tooru hid in a recess in the tunnel wall, holding their breath as they waited for Rum's convoy.

Meanwhile, Rena Mizunashi and Tsutomu Akai at the tunnel entrance were also ready.

Cohen picked up his sniper rifle again, aiming at the area in the middle of the tunnel that was "potentially at risk of falling rocks," wary of possible intruders.

Akai Tsutomu placed his hand on the gun at his waist, his eyes fixed on the depths of the tunnel.

Mary Akai adjusted her posture, concealing the dagger in her sleeve and keeping most of her face covered by her collar to avoid being recognized by Cohen. She knew the organization's sniper's observational skills and would never leave any flaws that would expose her identity.

As night deepened, the air inside the tunnel seemed to freeze.

A rapid engine roar came from afar, and two blinding headlights pierced the darkness of the tunnel, speeding toward them.

Rum's convoy has finally arrived.

Kudo Yuki pressed her fingertip on the miniature communicator and whispered, "Attention all units, target has been spotted. Prepare for action."

The headlights cast distorted shadows on the tunnel walls, and the engine noise grew louder as the vehicle approached.

The two cars entered the road in a line, one after the other. Rum could be vaguely seen sitting in the back seat with a sinister smile on his lips.

Kudo Yuki's fingertips gripped the miniature communicator tightly, and under the night vision device, the infrared detector on the roof of the car could be seen slowly scanning.

She turned to look at Amuro Tooru, and the two exchanged a glance, simultaneously reaching for the weapon hidden at their waists.

Rena Mizunashi stepped on the gas, and the car surged forward. At the same time, she shouted to Tsutomu Akai, "Proceed according to plan!"

While swerving to avoid bullets, she quietly pressed a hidden button under the steering wheel.

This was a CIA-made explosive device. The ventilation ducts at the top of the tunnel exploded instantly, and rubble fell down, temporarily obstructing the organization's members' view.

Tsutomu Akai also sped up, the vehicle scraping against the rock face as it passed. He turned to Mary Akai in the passenger seat and said, "Hold on tight."

Mary Akai nodded, and took advantage of the chaos to climb out of the car window. She moved with the agility of a cheetah and hid in a recess in the tunnel wall, her specially made short blade reflecting a cold light in the darkness.

She deliberately kept her body low to the ground and covered the lower half of her face with a scarf to avoid being recognized by the organization members.

After all, her identity as a "sister outside the field" must not be exposed.

As soon as she heard footsteps approaching, Kudo Yuki made her move, slicing her opponent's wrist with a short blade and seizing the submachine gun.

Gunshots rang out from inside the tunnel, and Kudo Yuki and Amuro Tooru seized the opportunity to rush out from their hiding place.

Amuro Tooru raised his hand and fired a tracking tranquilizer dart, accurately hitting the necks of two organization members. As a police undercover agent, his fighting and adaptability were already superb. He shouted to Kudo Yuki, "Go get the chip! Rum never puts core items in the trunk; it's in the driver's side compartment!"

He knew Rum's caution and that he would never easily expose key targets.

Kudo Yuki dodged the oncoming bullet with a swift movement, and the divination card in her hand suddenly flew out, accurately hitting the explosion-proof film on the windshield, causing the film to crack instantly.

Seeing this, Rum sneered, a cold glint flashing in his prosthetic left eye. He swiftly pressed a hidden button on the center console with his left hand, and a hidden compartment on the side of the driver's seat popped open, revealing a silver metal box—the core chip of the ES Dark Amber Project.

"Want the chip? Not so easy." Rum drew his custom pistol from his waist, pointing it directly at Kudo Yuki, his movements swift and decisive.

Upon seeing this, Amuro Tooru immediately rushed over and shielded Kudo Yuki with his body. The bullet grazed his shoulder blade and struck the rock wall, sparking as it flew.

He endured the excruciating pain, pulled out a silenced pistol, and took out the two pursuers behind him. "I'm fine, you take the chip and go first!"

As an undercover agent, he had long since disregarded life and death; his primary task was to protect the core clues.

Just then, a familiar engine sound came from the tunnel entrance, and a white sports car sped towards them, its roof spotlight illuminating the inside of the tunnel.

Kaito Kuroba, dressed in a white tuxedo, leaned out of the car window and shouted to Yuki Kudo, "I told you I had to be on these dangerous missions!"

He raised his hand and threw several smoke grenades, instantly filling the entire tunnel with smoke, along with miniature devices that interfered with signals, causing the organization's members' communicators to malfunction instantly.

This is Kaito Kid's usual tactic: creating chaos while precisely controlling the situation.

"Kaito Kid? What's he doing here?" Conan's voice came through the mini communicator, clearly having also seen the scene through the surveillance cameras.

“I asked him to help hold them back, after all, no one can match his escape skills.” Taking advantage of the smoke cover, Kudo Yuki rushed to the car in front and grabbed the metal box.

Just as she turned around, Rum suddenly appeared in front of her. He had zero tolerance for traitors in the organization, and his eyes were full of ruthlessness.

Kudo Yuki was surprised that Rum knew this secret code name. She instinctively took a step back, her divination cards poised to be used.

Rum snapped his fingers, and several members of the organization rushed out of the smoke, forming an encirclement. "Today, you and the chip will all stay here."

He never leaves himself an escape route, and even when the police arrive, he has a backup plan.

In the critical moment, a dark figure suddenly flashed by. Akai Mary, holding a short blade, stood in front of Kudo Yuki. Although she was petite, her aura was extremely oppressive: "If you want to touch her, you'll have to get past me first."

She deliberately used voice-changing techniques to lower her voice and avoid being recognized by Cohen—once her identity was exposed, not only would she be in danger, but the Akai family would also be implicated.

Rum narrowed his eyes, sizing up her skills: "Who are you?"

"The one who will send you to hell." Before Akai Mary could finish speaking, she had already flashed forward, her short blade aimed straight at Rum's weakness. Rum dodged to the side, clenching his left fist to counterattack. Although he was only one-eyed, his fighting skills were extremely ruthless. The two grappled in the smoke, each move deadly.

Amuro Tooru took the opportunity to eliminate the organization members around him and rushed to Kudo Yuki's side: "Did you get the chip?"

"Got it!" Kudo Yuki held up the metal box. "Let's get out of here!"

Kaito Kuroba's voice came again: "The east passage has been cleared, the police are on their way!"

Seeing this, Rum roared, but he didn't panic. Instead, he pressed the remote control at his waist: "Burn this place down!"

To destroy evidence, he had already planted explosives inside the tunnel, completely disregarding the lives of his men—this was his ruthless nature. However, the smoke made precise operation impossible, and only a small portion of the explosives detonated, hindering his pursuit.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Kudo Yuki and Amuro Tooru ran towards the east passage.

Mary Akai also took the opportunity to get rid of Rum and reunite with Tsutomu Akai.

Rena Mizunashi drove her vehicle, ramming through the organization members at the tunnel entrance to clear a path for them. She needed to get back to the organization as quickly as possible to report back and avoid arousing Gin's suspicion.
