Detective Conan: The System Takes Me to Zero's World
Chapter 523: Double 3 Meiji and Still Soup: Warmth in the Dark
As soon as the two people and the rat stepped into the safe house, Haro rushed over with his tail wagging like a rattle, and put his front paws on Kudo Xue's legs. He made a happy "woooo" sound in his throat and rubbed his head against her palm.
Shushu poked his little head out of the pocket of Kudo Yuki's windbreaker, caught a glimpse of Haro's intimate look, and immediately puffed up his cheeks and made a face at him, waving his little chubby paws playfully.
Unfortunately, Haro couldn't see it and continued to circle around Kudo Yuki, its tail sweeping across the ground and creating a gust of wind.
Shushu dug into the pocket of Kudo Yuki's windbreaker, his little head poking out high. He watched Haro circling around his owner non-stop, and shook his chubby paw angrily: "What a stupid dog! I'm making faces here, and you don't even react at all!"
It also deliberately jumped onto Kudo Yuki's shoulder and chirped twice into Haro's ear.
But Harry just tilted his head, and his tail continued to wag like a rattle, obviously not realizing that there was a "little guy" next to him.
Amuro Toru couldn't help but chuckle as he watched this scene. He reached out and rubbed Shushu's little head: "If it could see you, I'm afraid it would compete with you for Xiaoxue's attention every day."
Kudo Yuki smiled and looked at Shushu who was half sticking out of his pocket: "Don't be jealous, Haro has been waiting for us all night."
Shushu snorted, put his chubby little paws on his hips, and wagged his tail, but he still couldn't help but stick his head out to look at Hallo.
The Shiba Inu was wagging its tail happily, its nose rubbing against Kudo Yuki's wrist, completely unaware of the "little guy's" dissatisfaction.
Toru Amuro looked at the interaction between the man and the mouse, smiled helplessly, and adjusted the surveillance equipment at the door to ensure that the signal shielding of the safe house was on.
Haro seemed to sense the "little emotion" in the air. After rubbing Kudo Yuki's palm, he suddenly pricked up his ears and barked twice towards the door.
Toru Amuro paused while debugging the surveillance camera and looked up at the screen - there was nothing unusual in the picture, only the shadows of the branches in the yard moved by the wind.
"I'm getting more and more alert," Amuro Toru said, smiling as he closed the debug interface and headed towards the living room. "But it's no wonder. Even Haro has been on high alert lately, following our lead."
Kudo Yuki bent down and stroked Haro's head, her fingertips sliding from the tip of its ear to its back. She looked up at Amuro Toru and said with a smile, "After all, under your training, Haro has long become a qualified 'police dog'. His vigilance is even stronger than we expected."
She sat down on the shoe-changing stool in the entrance hall, her fingertips still sliding gently on the soft fur of the Hello, but her eyelids drooped unconsciously.
Shushu rubbed his eyes and yawned with a baby voice. His tail curled into a small circle and rested on his paws. It was obvious that he was also infected by the sleepiness.
"It seems you're really tired." Amuro Toru walked over and naturally reached out to brush away the loose hair hanging from Kudo Yuki's forehead. His eyes swept over the faint dark blue under her eyes. "Go rest on the sofa for a while. I'll make some hot milk."
Kudo Yuki nodded, and slowly walked to the living room with Harry. As soon as she sat down on the sofa, she couldn't help but curl up her legs, resting her chin on her knees, and curling up into a small ball.
"Is there no movement from Rum? Gin temporarily stopped Cohen from continuing to observe Wakasa Rumi's mission, but given Rum's personality, he might directly use the name of the organization's mission next time to force Cohen to take action in the dark. Wakasa Rumi is the only survivor of the Haneda Hiroshi case, and nothing can happen to her."
Before she finished speaking, her voice gradually lowered, her head unconsciously tilted towards the back of the sofa, and her breathing became steady and long.
Haro lay obediently at Kudo Yuki's feet, his head resting on her ankles, his tail sweeping the ground from time to time.
Shushu could no longer bear the sleepiness and slipped into the pocket of Kudo Yuki's windbreaker, leaving only the tip of its furry tail exposed, lying motionless.
Amuro Toru came out of the kitchen carrying two cups of hot milk and saw the man and the mouse sleeping soundly. He walked over quietly, placed the milk on the coffee table, carefully lifted Kudo Yuki's tilted head, let her lean on his shoulder, and took the blanket beside her and gently covered her with it.
"Wakasa Rumi's fighting power is very high, and Rum can't do anything to her." Amuro Toru lowered his head and looked at Kudo Yuki's sleeping face, his voice very low, as if he was afraid of disturbing her dream.
"As for Gin, he's clearly trying to 'put on a show' with Karasuma Renya, and he already has his own plans in mind. As for Vodka, the status videos sent by Vermouth and you from time to time can also temporarily reassure him, and he won't be easily led around by Karasuma Renya."
He raised his hand and gently stroked Kudo Yuki's hair, his eyes falling on the magician's divination card on the coffee table.
It was a gift from Hei Yu Daoyi. Whenever she encountered a difficult problem, she would always touch that card out of habit. Now the card was face down, as if it contained an unrevealed answer, just like the intricate chess game at hand.
Karasuma Renya uses "bait" as chess pieces, and his goal is never to win or lose, but to find out everyone's bottom line; Kudo Yuki does the opposite, not fighting for temporary gains or losses, but only seeking to disrupt the situation in the chess game he has set up, hiding his intentions in the muddy water, and waiting for an opportunity to salvage the key to breaking the game.
Amuro Toru sighed softly, and his fingertips traced the dark circles under Kudo Yuki's eyes. "You always carry everything on your shoulders. You should take a good rest."
Harry at my feet suddenly moved his ears and swept his tail across the ground, but no sound was made. It was obvious that he didn't want to break this rare silence.
Toru Amuro looked down at Kudo Yuki's slightly furrowed brows as she slept soundly, remembering her serious look when she analyzed Rum's movements at night, and his fingertips unconsciously smoothed the wrinkles between her brows.
He murmured softly, as if responding to her sleep-wake worries, "If Rum wants to make a move on Wakasa Rumi, he'll have to get past the FBI and the police first. Manager Kuroda already had Date Ko and his men place secret guards near her residence. Even if Cohen really dared to make a move, he'd be in big trouble."
At this time, Shushu mumbled in his sleep: "Sandwich... tuna flavor... rum, don't grab it..."
Amuro Toru's mouth curled up slightly and he turned his head to look at the armrest of the sofa.
The tip of Shushu's furry tail was still sticking out of Kudo Yuki's windbreaker pocket, rising and falling gently with her breathing.
Haro lay at Kudo Yuki's feet and raised his head to look at the wall clock.
The clock hand quietly slipped past two in the morning, and it let out a very soft whimper from its throat. The tip of its tail rubbed against Amuro Toru's trouser leg, and its amber eyes were full of "reminder".
Toru Amuro looked down at it, his fingertips still resting between Kudo Yuki's eyebrows, his movements becoming lighter.
He followed Haro's gaze to the wall clock, curled his lips helplessly, and said in a voice that only the two people and the dog could hear: "I know, I'll rest now."
He carefully held Kudo Yuki's shoulders, slowly moved her head onto the sofa pillow, and pulled the blanket up to cover her exposed wrists.
After doing all this, he stood up quietly. Just as he took a step, he heard Shushu mumbling in his sleep from his windbreaker pocket: "Amuro Toru... don't eat secretly... I want a double sandwich..."
Toru Amuro laughed and reached out to touch the tip of Shushu's tail that was exposed. The furry touch relaxed his tense nerves a little.
Haro stood up right after him and followed him to the guest room. When he reached the door, he looked back at Kudo Yuki lying on the sofa to make sure she was sleeping soundly before he barked softly, as if to "report".
There was only a small bedside lamp on in the guest room, and the warm yellow light just covered half of the bed.
As soon as Toru Amuro sat down, Haro curled up at his feet and rested his head on his paws, but he didn't close his eyes immediately. He still looked up at him from time to time, as if to confirm whether he was really resting.
Amuro Toru rubbed his eyebrows, but a lot of things flashed through his mind involuntarily.
However, Shushu's vague mumbling in his sleep interrupted his thoughts.
Amuro Toru relaxed his body against the head of the bed, reached out and touched Haro's head at his feet, and whispered, "Don't worry, I'm resting."
Haro seemed to understand. His tail gently swept across his trouser leg. He finally closed his eyes and let out a soft purring sound from his throat.
I slept until three in the afternoon.
Kudo Yuki was awakened by the movement in her pocket.
When I opened my eyes, the living room was quiet. Only Haro was dozing off on the sofa, the tip of his tail swaying gently with his breathing.
Shu Shu was chewing nuts quickly. When he saw her wake up, he immediately came over with the nuts in his hand. "Amuro Toru was eating them secretly! He hid all the tuna sandwiches in the kitchen!"
Kudo Yuki laughed and just as she sat up, she saw that the hot milk on the coffee table had already cooled down. Next to it was a note with Amuro Toru's handwriting:
Don’t drink the milk if it’s cold. Warm up the soup in the kitchen and call me when you wake up.
The door of the guest room was gently pushed open, and Amuro Toru walked out in casual clothes, with a lazy look in his eyes as if he had just woken up. "Awake? You looked like you were sleeping so soundly that I didn't want to wake you up."
Shushu scurried up the armrest of the sofa and onto his shoulder, his chubby little paws clutching his collar and shaking him: "Hand over the sandwich! I can smell tuna!"
Amuro Toru helplessly lifted it up by the scruff of its neck and placed it on the coffee table. "I've already left you a double portion on a plate in the kitchen. Go by yourself."
As soon as Shushu ran to the kitchen door, he was tripped by the threshold and stumbled. He kicked his short legs on the floor twice before he stabilized his body. His eyes immediately locked onto the white porcelain plate on the cupboard.
Two tuna sandwiches lay there quietly, with the edges of the bread still having a fresh, burnt aroma.
It jumped onto the countertop and stuffed the sandwich into its mouth. Its cheeks instantly puffed up like little balls of fluff as it mumbled incoherently, "I knew Amuro Toru wouldn't dare to steal some... This mouse has a double portion, not a cent less!"
In the living room, Kudo Yuki picked up the note, her fingertips stroking the strong handwriting on the paper. She looked up at Amuro Toru with a smile in her eyes: "What kind of warm soup is this? It smells delicious."
"The miso fish tofu soup you mentioned last time," Amuro Toru walked over to the sofa and sat down, taking the cold milk cup from her hand, "I saw there was fresh tofu in the refrigerator this morning, so I stewed it."
Kudo Yuki's fingertips were still resting on the notepad. Hearing this, she smiled and raised her chin towards the kitchen. "Well, I have to try it. After all, someone even went to the trouble of hiding a sandwich, so the soup must have been made with great care."
Toru Amuro shook his head helplessly, got up and walked towards the kitchen. As soon as he opened the refrigerator door, he heard the muffled whimpering of Shu Shu behind him.
Shushu was holding the last piece of sandwich, his cheeks puffed up like nuts, but his short legs slipped on the counter and almost knocked over the plate.
Amuro Toru reached out to hold the plate and poked Shushu's back with his fingertips: "Eat slowly, no one is going to snatch it from you."
Shushu responded vaguely with a piece of bread in his mouth, but his tail wagged quickly and his eyes glanced at the casserole on the stove. It was obvious that he was also very curious about the soup.
Kudo Yuki had just walked to the cooking counter, and before her fingertips touched the casserole of miso soup, the phone in her trouser pocket suddenly vibrated, and the word "Conan" jumping on the screen was particularly eye-catching.
She picked up the phone with a smile, but before she could say anything, the young man's clear and cheerful voice came from the other end: "Sister, Xiaolan has been successfully discharged from the hospital! The doctor said she's recovering well, but she's still talking about going to Poirot to try your new dessert."
"Got it," Kudo Yuki arched her brows. "Come back anytime when she's rested enough. I'll have Toru save our signature strawberry soufflé for her."
Amuro Toru, who was helping Shushu wipe the crumbs from his mouth, looked up and added, "Tell her not to worry. I'll make some white fungus and lotus seed soup to replenish blood and have Conan deliver it this afternoon."
Conan on the other end of the phone said "OK", then lowered his voice and added quickly: "By the way, sister, see you tomorrow near the Poirot Cafe."
Before he could finish his words, the phone was hastily hung up.
Amuro Toru had just placed the casserole of miso soup on the table when he noticed her expression froze. He followed her gaze and looked at his phone: "Is there any news from Conan?"
"Well, let's meet near Poirot tomorrow." Kudo Yuki put the phone back into the pocket of his windbreaker. "Probably he has something to say."
Shushu was chewing the last piece of sandwich, crumbs on his paws, when his tail suddenly stopped. He swallowed the food, puffed up his cheeks, and blinked.
He jumped onto Kudo Yuki's shoulder and patted her cheek with his chubby paw: "Xiaoxue! I almost forgot something important! Tonight at 8 o'clock, at the dock warehouse, you and Gin will meet!"
Kudo Yuki paused while scooping miso soup, then nodded as if suddenly realizing something: "Thanks for reminding me, I didn't forget."
Amuro Toru put down the milk cup and tapped his fingertips on the table. "Then let's do as we agreed last night. The communication, route, and support have all been confirmed. There won't be any problems."
At night, the pier was enveloped in the thick darkness, and the salty sea breeze blew the gravel, making a rustling sound.
Kudo Yuki appeared at the agreed location wearing a half-covered butterfly mask.
The hamster only showed half of its black eyes, its little claws tightly grasping the cloth, alertly paying attention to the movements around it.
Inside the warehouse, a single, battered lightbulb hung in the air, its light flickering, stretching Gin's shadow. He leaned against the container, his fingertips caressing the trigger of his pistol absentmindedly, a flash of metallic gleam passing through the dimness.
Seeing Kudo Yuki push the door open, he first glanced at the empty doorway behind her to confirm that there was no ambush. Then he spoke, his voice as if it had been tempered by ice: "Did you bring the data?"
"Where's the key?" Kudo Yuki stood three meters away from him, without any fear.
