Detective Conan: The System Takes Me to Zero's World

Chapter 463: Undercurrents at Bupa BBQ House

Mao Lilan quickly squatted down and looked the two up and down: "Are you not hurt? I was really scared just now."

Mitsuhiko's hand holding the phone was still shaking slightly, and his voice was a little scared: "My phone actually has no signal... I was just pretending to call the police."

Kudo Yuki bent down and ruffled the hair of the two little ones. "Well done, you were able to keep your composure at the critical moment. Just don't be so impulsive next time. You are still too young. It is most important to protect yourself."

Yuan Tai nodded vigorously, clenching his fists tightly: "But when I saw him grabbing Mitsuhiko, I couldn't help it..."

Mao Lilan smiled and hugged the two children into her arms, patting their backs gently with her palms: "You are very brave, thank you so much for what happened just now. But in the future, if you encounter such a thing, you must ask adults for help first, understand?"

Mitsuhiko and Genta responded obediently in her arms, with snow grains still on the tips of their noses, but they tilted their little faces up and smiled brightly.

The wind and snow swept across the treetops, bringing with them the faint noise of the camp in the distance. Kudo Yuki looked at the three people hugging each other, her fingertips stroking the magician's divination cards in her pocket, and her gaze returned to the ridge swallowed by the night.

On the other side, Officer Yamato and Officer Yui, who had rolled down the snow slope, were struggling to get up from the snow.

"Yui, are you okay?"

Officer Yui shook her head and helped him move to the leeward side. "No matter what, we need to find a place to avoid the wind and snow first."

The two supported each other and finally saw a wooden house not far away - it was the Bupa Barbecue Hut.

The rat hiding in the hood of Officer Yamato was dizzy from the tumble just now. He stood up slowly, with stars in front of his eyes, but he muttered stubbornly: "I'm not afraid of this level of 'Ferris wheel'..."

Shushu shook his dizzy head, and peeped out with his chubby little paws, and after confirming that the two people had walked into the cabin, he quickly took out the micro locator hidden in his fur.

The chubby little paw pressed the cold button twice, and a weak signal was immediately sent out.

Kudo Yuki's phone vibrated in her pocket, and the screen lit up. The location sent by Shushu was flashing green, with a line of crooked small words attached to it:

Two people are warming themselves by the fire in the Bupa Barbecue Hut.

She looked up at the two little ones who were still hugging each other and Mao Lilan and spoke first: "Ran, I'm going to go find the officers Yamato and Yui who are in trouble. You stay here and wait for rescue."

"I understand, Sister Xue. You have to be careful too. We will guard here and prevent others from approaching the dangerous area." Mao Lilan pulled Mitsuhiko and Genta over and protected them behind her. "You two should stay here and don't run around anymore."

Kudo Yuki responded, turned around and walked on the snow in the direction indicated by the location. The footprints in the snow were blurred by the night wind, and she identified the path by the moonlight.

The wooden door of Bupa's barbecue hut was ajar, letting in a dim light.

"Excuse me, we are the police." Officer Yui pushed open the door of the shop, and the kettle inside was boiling with white smoke. "No one is here."

Officer Yamato closed the store door and said, "You brought your police communicator, didn't you? I just lost mine."

"But there's no signal."

"The emergency notice should still be sent out."

Officer Yui pulled out his cell phone, and a five-second countdown appeared on the screen: "Emergency notification will be sent soon."

Kudo Yuki gently pushed open the door and saw Officer Yui holding her cell phone and staring at the screen, while Officer Yamato was leaning against the fireplace, supporting his body with an ice nail crutch.

"Are you all right?" Kudo Yuki closed the door behind her, isolating the snow and wind from outside, and her eyes fell on Officer Yui's phone. "The signal here is severely blocked, and the emergency report may not be able to be sent out."

Officer Yui's fingertips hovered over the send button, and she paused when she heard the words: "Ms. Kudo? Why are you here?"

"I came here after hearing the gunshot. The hooded man who shot you was the criminal who killed Inspector Sametani, but he escaped."

Kudo Yuki looked around: "I always feel like I'm a little redundant, like a light bulb."

Officer Yui's cheeks were slightly hot, and she quickly looked away to adjust her phone: "Ms. Kudo, stop joking."

She repeatedly pressed the send button, but the screen was always stuck at the countdown interface. "Sure enough, it can't be sent out. The signal blocking here is too deliberate."

Officer Yamato leaned against the fireplace, tapping his ice-spike cane on the floor. He looked at the vent on the roof and said, "It's not the signal jammer. It's the terrain. This valley itself is a signal blind spot."

Kudo Yuki walked to the window, opened a crack and observed the wind and snow outside: "The criminal chose to do it here, he did his homework. Don't you two want to try to get along?"

Officer Yui's finger suddenly pressed the wrong button, and the phone almost slipped from her palm. She hurriedly steadied the phone, and her ears turned red: "Ms. Kudo, don't make fun of us..."

Officer Yamato's Adam's apple rolled, and his hand holding the cane tightened, but he did not refute. He just turned his eyes to the dancing flames in the fireplace and said in a muffled voice: "It is important to find a way to contact the outside world first."

Kudo Yuki leaned against the window, looking at the two people's obviously unnatural reactions, and the smile in her eyes deepened: "Okay, let's think about it slowly after we get out."

"Buppa BBQ is located at the edge of the avalanche zone. Few people come here normally. It is indeed a natural 'information island'." Officer Yui paused for a moment and looked at Kudo Yuki. "You just said that the people who attacked us were the murderers of Inspector Sametani?"

"Almost certain." Kudo Yuki nodded. "I was the one who reported the case, so of course I saw that the hooded man was wearing a black helmet. It's the same this time."

Kudo Yuki suddenly looked up at the corner of the wooden house, where white steam was coming out of the iron chimney. She walked over quickly, tapped the wall with her fingertips, turned to Officer Yui and said, "There is a signal fluctuation in the gap between the wooden boards here. You can try standing right under the chimney, maybe you can send an emergency report."

Officer Yui quickly walked to the designated location with the phone in her arms, and sure enough, the signal bar on the screen went from empty to a weak one.

Kudo Yuki gave up her position: "Hurry up, the signal is unstable and may be disconnected at any time."

Officer Yui immediately pressed the send button, the progress bar on the screen slowly climbed up, and the countdown began.

Just when the message was sent successfully, someone outside opened the shop door.

At the Nagano Prefectural Police Headquarters, an alarm suddenly sounded: "Now repeating, we have received an emergency police radio signal. The sender is Yui Uehara of the Investigation Division 1, and the satellite location of the sender is the Bupa BBQ Hut at the fifth station of Mt. Miho."

Conan's heart tightened, realizing that Kudo Yuki's previous premonition that "something was going to happen" had come true, and he immediately quickened his pace and ran downstairs from the second floor.

When Zhufu Takaaki heard the emergency report, he immediately said to Maori Kogoro: "Let's go."

"Okay." Kogoro Mouri and others responded and prepared to walk out of the building, and a group of people immediately got on the police car.

Conan happened to run over and appeared in everyone's sight.

"Conan? Why are you here?" Maori Kogoro looked down at the panting Conan and frowned, "You stay here."

After the police car drove away, Conan stopped and his phone suddenly vibrated. He looked down and saw that it was Haibara Ai calling. After answering the phone, his face suddenly changed: "What? Xiaolan and the others are in trouble! Sister went to find the deceased Officer Yamato and Officer Yui."

Conan turned and ran, and after finding Zhu Fu Jingguang, he ordered the bug on the back of his neck: "Mr. Kazami, my companion was attacked by gunmen on the mountain, and Sister Xue has gone to rescue him."

"What?!" Yuya Kazami's voice exploded from the eavesdropping device, with obvious panic, "Ms. Kudo and the others are all there? Conan, where are you now? Don't act on your own!"

Conan had already rushed to the parking lot in the backyard of the police station, and shouted breathlessly: "I'm in the parking lot of the Nagano Prefectural Police Headquarters. Where are you, Mr. Kazami? I have to go up the mountain immediately!"

"I'm in the black car at the east exit, come here quickly!"

Conan ran to the east exit and saw a black car parked in the shadows. He opened the back door and was about to get in when he suddenly stopped.

Zhu Fu Jingguang in the back seat heard the noise and looked up, with a helpless smile in his eyes: "Conan, get in the car."

Conan got into the car and closed the door. As soon as he sat down, he asked anxiously: "Why is Mr. Yingchuan here? Shouldn't you be riding in the police car with Officer Gao Ming?"

"We need to record the Orionid meteor shower at 8 o'clock tonight on Nobeyama at the National Astronomical Observatory." Zhu Fujingguang tapped his knees with his fingertips, his tone calm but with deep meaning, "Study the star track arrangement in the video carefully, maybe we can unlock the four-digit combination lock of Nagano Trading Co., Ltd."

Yuya Kazami turned the steering wheel sharply, and the black sedan rolled over the light snow on Mount Miho, and the snow foam kicked up by the tires splashed in front of the headlights.

In the rearview mirror, a convoy of Nagano Prefectural Police cars were chasing with sirens blaring, their red and blue lights creating intermittent bands of light in the snowy night.

Conan leaned against the car window, looking at the shadows of the trees rapidly receding outside the window, his fingertips tapping on his knees anxiously: "Mr. Kazami, let's go meet up with Dr. Agasa."

Yuya Kazami's car swerved on the snowy road, with the speed needle on the dashboard firmly pointing at 120 kilometers per hour.

There was a thin layer of snow in the woods of Mt. Mitsuhiko, and the pine branches were frozen and brittle. Mitsuhiko held up his mobile phone, and the photos on the screen were either blurred into a patch of light and shadow, or only a blurry back was captured.

"How could it be... I saw it clearly just now." He drooped his shoulders, his tone full of disappointment, and even the white breath he exhaled was filled with grievance.

Huiyuan Ai leaned in and glanced at the screen, with some snow on her eyelashes. Her tone was calm but soothing: "The light in the mountains is dim, so it's normal that the pictures can't be taken clearly."

"How could this happen..." Mitsuhiko wanted to mutter.

"Alright, alright," Dr. Agasa wrapped his scarf tightly around his neck, a gentle smile on his chubby face, "Now that you guys are back safely, I can finally put my old heart back into my stomach."

He turned his head to look at the observation car slowly approaching not far away and waved: "Here it comes."

The observation car stopped in the snow with the windows rolled down. Ochitoyo said helplessly: "This is going to be a big deal."

It was warm in the Bupa kebab hut, and the iron grid on the charcoal stove was sizzling.

Officer Takagi pushed open the store door and a gust of cold wind came in.

Ogino Ayami tightened her grip on the gun slightly and scanned the room with a vigilant look, but was stunned when she saw Yamato Gansuke and Uehara Yui.

Officer Yamato sat at the wooden table, holding a teacup in his hand. The heat blurred the scars on his face. He looked up at the door and said, "It seems that an emergency signal has been received."

Uehara Yui was pouring tea for Kudo Yuki with a calm movement.

Kudo Yuki leaned back in her chair, spinning the cup nonchalantly with her fingertips, a faint smile on her lips: "Cai Shi, you guys are here!"

Ogino Ayami put the gun away, and the vigilance in her eyes faded into confusion: "Xiaoxue? Officer Yamato, Officer Uehara...what are you doing..."

"This is Mr. Otomo Takashi, the owner of the cabin," Officer Yui smiled and pointed at the honest middle-aged man beside him, "He helped stabilize the signal just now, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to send it out."

Otomo Takashi felt a little embarrassed by everyone's gaze and scratched his head: "No, I don't deserve it. I just did what I could."

Maori Kogoro looked at the wooden house and smacked his lips: "Tsk, this place is really small."

Zhu Fu Gaoming noticed the menu board in the corner and said softly, "Looking at the layout, it doesn't look like a newly opened store."

Otomo Takashi answered honestly: "I have been operating here for five years."

Sato Miwako followed in, paused, and murmured, "Five years ago..."

In front of the camping cabin, Yuya Kazami slammed on the brakes, and the black sedan stopped after leaving a half-meter snow mark on the snow.

Zhu Fujing looked at the wooden house with lights on not far away, tapping his fingertips lightly on his knees, as if thinking about something.

Conan opened the car door and ran to the cabin. He was unaware of the cold wind blowing into his collar. As soon as he opened the door, he heard Dr. Agasa's voice coming from inside: "Because of the shooting, the police said 'You can't go down the mountain without permission'."

"Then are we going to stay here tonight?" Mitsuhiko looked up at the adults in the room and asked with a hint of uneasiness on his face.

Ochifeng frowned and said in a serious tone, "I didn't make this arrangement originally. I didn't book a room. And just now the observatory detected an abnormal signal nearby, like a wave triggered by a gun... I can only record the Orionid meteor shower tonight and watch it after I get down the mountain."

Yuan Tai looked worried: "What should I do then?"

Ayumi asked quietly, "Do we have to live in the car?"

Haibara Ai stood aside, her eyes inadvertently swept across the door, and noticed Conan standing there.

Conan held onto the door frame and immediately suggested, "Why don't we go to the nearby Bupa BBQ hut? We just received a signal that Uncle Kogoro and the others are there. It's not far away, and it's safer with more people."

Inside the Bupa BBQ hut, everyone's eyes were focused on the corner - there was an object that looked like a gun.

"This gun looks so weird." Officer Yui stared at the object and couldn't help but mutter.

Yamato Gansuke squinted his eyes and looked at it for a moment, then denied it and said, "No, this thing doesn't look like a gun."

"This is actually a part of a sound system," Otomo Takashi explained, standing to the side with his hands folded in front of him. "It's a little design I came up with on a whim, made to look like a gun."
