It was already the next morning.

The mornings after winter always carry a chill. As Sang Tian walked out of the cave, a gust of cool air hit her face, causing her to shiver.

The mountains in the distance are covered in a layer of white morning frost, appearing and disappearing, like a landscape painting with blank space.

Bare branches. In the cold wind, the branches trembled, and a jackdaw preened its feathers on the dead branches...

……

Under the bamboo shed in the square, there are steaming yam and radish pancakes, cabbage and meat sauce pancakes, fragrant roasted taro, and stomach-warming mushroom and meat soup.

The food exuded an enticing aroma. The tribesmen sat in the shed, eating breakfast and chatting.

A look of good times.

In such a peaceful and ordinary day, everything seems so beautiful...

This is what Sang Tian wants to protect...

……

As the sun rises, the temperature gradually rises and the frost gradually dissipates. Although it is cold, it is full of vitality and energy.

The tribesmen all wrapped themselves in thick clothes and began to walk towards the site where the house was to be located.

……

Usually, the kang is placed near a window or door to allow for ventilation and light.

Sang Tian positioned the kang on the right side of the entrance, close to the side and the wall flush with the entrance.

When the walls were being built, space for the kang holes was left.

The kang eye is naturally left outside.

If it is left in the house, the house will be filled with smoke and the floor will be dirty when the kang is heated.

It affects the quality of life too much.

Now the space has been reserved, we just need to build the kang.

……

Materials such as earthen bricks, mixed mud, sand, loess, large stone slabs, etc. have been prepared by the tribesmen and transported to the surrounding areas.

Bricks are used to build the kang, mud and sand are used for bricklaying and plastering, loess is used to fill the inside of the kang, and stone slabs are used to pave the kang surface.

Officially start building the kang!

The first step is to build the kang.

First, use bricks to build the entire outline of the kang on the ground.

This kang should be made as big as possible so that it is comfortable to sleep on and you can roll around as you like.

Once the general outline is complete, it's time to build the walls. Mud and sand are used to hold the adobe blocks together.

During the bricklaying process, it is important to leave space for the kang hole and the flue. The flue Sang Tian directly connected to the outside, building a long flue along the side of the wall.

The kang hole doesn't need to be particularly large, as it's only used for burning firewood. But it can't be too small, otherwise there will be no space for burning firewood and storing heat.

Next, you need to fill the kang body.

Fill the inside of the kang with loess and tamp it down. The loess should be filled evenly to ensure the flatness and stability of the kang.

Then, stones are laid on the surface of the kang and fixed with mud. The stone slabs should be flat and the gaps should be even to ensure the beauty and use of the kang surface.

How could there be any stone slabs with even surfaces and sides in ancient times? It was not easy to find a stone slab.

There is really no other way, so I can only grind.

Fortunately, the females in charge of logistics boiled hot water all day long.

Some of the tribesmen, especially the elderly and females, as well as many children, sat by the river and used hot water to grind the stone slabs.

It doesn't have to be as smooth as a concrete road, but at least it shouldn't be bumpy.

There are quite a lot of such stones in the hot spring area, almost a whole area is covered with them, so there is no need to worry about the materials.

The tribesmen had already started grinding stone slabs when they were digging cellars and burning tiles.

After working for a few days, I finally made some good ones.

The flue is connected to the chimney. The flue must be kept clear to prevent smoke from flowing back.

The last step is to apply the finishing touch.

Use mud and sand to smooth the surface of the kang.

The thickness is moderate, ensuring the strength and durability of the kang.

Now it’s done!

About ten or twenty tribesmen worked at the same time and completed a kang in a day.

There are only about twenty houses in total. The tribesmen divided the work and finished it in one day.

But, you can’t sleep on a newly built kang!

After completing the fire kang, let it dry for a while.

Because it is extremely moist, you won't get sick if you sleep on it.

Even if you have been sleeping on a kang for many years, it will become very damp if it is not heated for a few days, so it must be heated regularly.

And leaving it there for a few days can ensure the strength of the cement and sand.

Also, try to avoid strenuous activities on the kang.

For example, when jumping high, this is not a Simmons mattress. Don't jump too hard or you will fall into the dust in the kang hole.

The house and the kang were then dried together. After a week, Guyu's people could move in.

However, the kang must be heated every morning and evening during this week.

To ensure it is completely dry.

Until the official move-in date seven days later.
