How can someone travel through time and space and become a beggar?
Chapter 10 Home is gone
Grandma Wang hurried over, pulling Xiaoliu behind her. Seeing their shed in tatters and the hateful figure of Waitou, she knew what was happening. "Waitou! Are you really not afraid of divine retribution? You've bullied these kids like this all the time. You've lost all conscience!"
He tilted his head and laughed contemptuously. Relying on the fact that there were many people around, he ignored them and continued to search.
The kids have had food to eat these past few days, and they've been following the Wang family in mysterious ways. Someone said they saw them selling flowers and made a lot of money, so they must be hiding here.
"Erwa, what's wrong with Erwa? Xiaowu, don't cry first." Da Wa grabbed Xiaowu's arm and shook it twice.
Xiaowu cried so hard that he hiccuped and stammered, "They, they asked me to take out money and food. I, I didn't have any, so they tore our house apart. They also threw my second brother out. I called him but couldn't wake him up. Big brother, what should I do?"
"Brother Dali, please help me and send my second brother to the clinic." Xia Chu pulled Dali's hand and begged.
Wang Dali touched the back of his head and looked at his grandmother.
"Go quickly, Xiaocong should go too." Grandma Wang said anxiously.
Dali held the second child in his arms, Wang Xiaocong led the way, and the fifth child followed behind, crying. The eldest child glared and tilted his head, then grabbed a stick from the ground. By the time Xia Chu realized what was happening, it was too late to stop them.
There was a thud, like a ripe watermelon falling to the ground. Wai Tou was swearing and rolling around when the stick struck him. He only heard something hit the back of his head, a buzzing in his ears, and turned to see Da Wa. A sharp pain shot through his head, and he fell to the ground without a cry.
The others saw Big Boy's desperate look, and then saw Pitou's head bleeding. They hadn't found anything yet, so maybe Pitou was just deceiving them. While they weren't afraid of Big Boy, they didn't want to get hurt either. They looked at each other and immediately dispersed.
Da Wa is well-known here for his fearlessness, otherwise how could he always pick up people and support them.
No one else wanted to mess with this crazy kid, so Waitou was the only one who kept causing trouble. Although Da Wa was hurt every time, Waitou never got any big advantage.
Seeing that the eldest boy was about to hit him a few more times, Xia Chu quickly pulled him back, "Big brother! Go see the second brother! Leave him alone!"
"Yes, Big Boy, don't worry about him." Grandma Wang also helped to persuade him, saying that the boy with the crooked head might be dead.
Someone would die every now and then in this beggar's den, either from starvation or illness, or from being beaten for stealing and left to die. Everyone was used to it, and whether Wai Tou was tearing down the shed or Da Wa was beating someone up, they'd just watch with indifference. But you couldn't kill anyone; if you did, you'd be kicked out by everyone.
Grandma Wang tilted her head and looked at Waitou, wanting him to die and fearing that he would die.
Big Boy kicked his head in anger and followed him.
"It's only been a few days! How did it happen again?" Doctor Sun was so worried that his hair fell out. He felt the pulse and frowned. "Why did he fall again? He broke his bones and fainted from the pain. Oh... if it happens again, his bones won't grow properly in the future." Doctor Sun wrapped Erwa's upper body tightly and gave him another injection to wake him up. He waved his hands repeatedly, "Hurry up, hurry up."
Grandma Wang smiled and thanked them. As they left the clinic, Xiao Wu suddenly asked, "Now that we have no home, where are we going?"
"If your home is gone, just build another one. I'll let Dali help you." Grandma Wang touched Xiaowu's head, "It's okay, ah. Don't worry."
"Brother, let's not go back. The man is bleeding so much, maybe..." Xia Chu felt a chill on his back when he thought of the man lying on the ground with blood gushing out.
"But where are we going?" Big Boy asked in confusion.
Xiaowu whispered, "It would be nice if we had our own home."
Who doesn't want it?
The group returned to the shack dejectedly. All that was left was a small empty piece of mud ground with a pool of dark blood glaringly left there.
Rebuilding it was impossible, as the shed had originally been snatched away by Big Boy. If anyone died, the others would rush to divide up their belongings. Big Boy had seized it out of sheer madness and recklessness, and the others were unwilling to pay any attention to him.
But every time he went out, there was always less straw. It wasn't until he picked up Erwa and they took turns going out that they managed to keep the place. Later, they stole straw from others and finally had their comfortable nest.
Big Boy stared at the pool of blood, turned his head to look at the tilted shack, and rushed in in the blink of an eye.
"Little bastard! It's not over yet, is it..." He shouted weakly with his head tilted.
"Get out, I want to live here." Da Wa's voice was low, as if he was suppressing his anger.
"Why? This is my home." He tilted his head, covering the back of his head, and sat up. "Don't think I'm afraid of you. If I piss you off, I can't kill you. But what can I do about those two brats of yours?"
Da Wa was furious, "I'm going to kill you now!"
"Big Brother!" Xia Chu rushed in and hugged Da Wa's arm, which was holding the stick. He tilted his head and bled profusely, and with no strength left in his body, he could only watch, panting heavily. Far from being fearful, he stiffened his neck and said, "Come on, kill me, murderer! Let's see how long you can survive in this beggar's den, hahahaha..."
Xia Chu looked up and met Da Wa's vicious eyes, and shouted, "Don't dirty your hands! Big brother! You still have us! He's a bachelor! He doesn't deserve it!"
Wai Tou knew he was going to die, but there was no place for murderers here, so he had to take someone with him before he died. "I'm not worthy, hahahaha... We're all beggars, and you think you're a master just because you washed your face? Pah. Come on, Big Boy, hit me in the head."
"No! Big brother! Let's go! I have somewhere to go! Let's go! Fifth brother! Come and help! Pull big brother away!" Xia Chu held down Da Wa tightly and shouted outside.
"Big boy, don't be confused." Grandma Wang was also trying to persuade him from outside.
Xiaowu and Wang Xiaocong walked in together and dragged Da Wa out.
"Come to my place. It's okay. We'll think of a solution." Grandma Wang grabbed Da Wa's hand and walked towards her home. "Don't worry. We'll keep an eye out these few days. If anyone builds a house, we can bring back some scrap wood and build you a wooden house. Wouldn't that be better than this straw hut?"
The Wang family's wooden house couldn't even be called a house. It was built from scraps from other people's houses. It shook even when pushed, and even the eldest child didn't dare knock on the door. Seven people squeezed in at once, and they were all forced to sit.
Erwa felt uncomfortable in his ribs while sitting, but he didn't even dare to touch them for fear of being seen by his eldest brother.
"I have an idea." Wang Xiaocong suddenly spoke.
Xia Chu raised her head and asked, "Is this the place I was thinking of?"
"It should be." Wang Xiaocong patted his elder brother who was squirming because of frustration, "Brother, bear with it, it will be fine tomorrow."
Grandma Wang looked around, puzzled. "What kind of riddle is this?"
"We'll know tomorrow. Just make do with it today." Wang Xiaocong said, pointing to the wall behind him.
Everyone understood what he meant and stopped talking.
Xia Chu noticed that Erwa's face was getting uglier and uglier, and asked worriedly, "Brother, are you in pain again?"
"It's okay." Erwa shook his head gently.
Da Wa took a look and pulled Xiao Wu, "Xiao Wu, sit on me, and let your second brother lie down."
"Oh." Xiaowu squeezed into his eldest brother's arms, making a little space for him.
They didn't even dare to lean against the wall, so they just sat there stiffly. Only Erwa lay down and slowly fell asleep.
