The female anchor turned into the dean of an ancient academy

Chapter 209: Zhenxi General’s Mansion, Rebellion?

"Oh no! Someone's coming!" Xiaozhi exclaimed in a low voice. Her originally rosy face turned pale in an instant. She nervously grabbed Cen Jiexiao's sleeve, her voice trembling: "What should we do? Let's go!"

"Don't panic, hide first!" Cen Jiexiao reacted quickly, grabbing Xiaozhi who was about to rush out and whispering, "This stone chamber is so hidden, no one will come in. Let's see what happens first."

As Cen Jiexiao spoke, she quickly looked around, searching for a hiding place. Her gaze fell on a huge stone tablet. The stone tablet was tall and heavy, enough to hide the three of them.

"Quick, go there!" Cen Jiexiao shouted, pulling Yu Lan and Xiao Zhi to hide behind the stone tablet. Just as the three of them were hiding, the door of the stone chamber slowly opened.

The heavy stone door made a rumbling sound, which was particularly harsh in the silent stone chamber. In the dim light, Cen Jiexiao saw a tall figure walking in.

The man, clad in black armor and carrying a longsword at his waist, walked with steady, powerful steps, exuding a murderous aura. In the dim light, Cen Jiexiao couldn't clearly see the man's face, but she could sense an invisible pressure bearing down on her.

He walked closer step by step and stopped in front of the stone table. With the dim light, Cen Jiexiao finally saw the face of the person who came and was immediately shocked.

The person who came was none other than the supreme commander of Zhenxi General’s Mansion - Li Yusheng!

Li Yusheng, the current Empress Dowager's nephew, was also her most favored person. He commanded a large army, guarded a region, and held significant influence within the court. Cen Jiexiao had never expected to meet him here!

Li Yusheng's face was grim, and his hawk-like eyes scanned the entire stone chamber sharply, as if searching for something. He walked to the stone table, picked up an account book, and flipped through it, his brow furrowed, as if he was thinking about something.

Cen Jiexiao held her breath, not daring to breathe, fearing Li Yusheng would discover her. She tightly grasped Yulan and Xiaozhi's hands, signaling them to be quiet. Yulan and Xiaozhi also nervously watched Li Yusheng's every move, not daring to breathe.

After flipping through a few pages of the account book, Li Yusheng suddenly threw it on the table, sneered, and said to himself, "Humph, a bunch of idiots, do you really think others don't know about your deeds? I'll have to clean up your mess!"

Cen Jiexiao was shocked. It seemed that Li Yusheng was indeed related to this matter!

After Li Yusheng finished speaking, he turned and walked towards the depths of the stone chamber, where there seemed to be a secret door.

"Let's go, follow him!" Cen Jiexiao shouted softly, and quietly followed Li Yusheng with Yu Lan and Xiao Zhi.

Cen Jiexiao and the other two passed through the secret door and emerged into an even narrower passage, barely wide enough for two people to walk side by side. Dim oil lamps lit at intervals on the walls on either side of the passage. The flickering light cast their figures on the walls, stretching them out in an unusually long way. They swayed as they moved, like ghostly shadows. The air was filled with a damp, moldy smell, mixed with a faint tang of blood, making it nauseating.

Li Yusheng walked ahead, his steps hurried, as if he had something urgent to attend to. Cen Jiexiao and the other two didn't dare to follow too closely, fearing he'd discover them. They could only watch from a distance, carefully concealing their presence. Yulan and Xiaozhi followed closely behind Cen Jiexiao, not daring to make a sound, for fear of startling Li Yusheng in front.

The passage seemed very long. They walked for a long time but never reached the end. Cen Jiexiao was secretly anxious, wondering where Li Yusheng was taking them. Just then, a low voice suddenly came from the front, breaking the silence in the passage. Li Yusheng stopped and seemed to be talking to someone.

Cen Jiexiao and the other two quickly hid behind a huge rock, held their breath, pricked up their ears, and listened carefully to their conversation, hoping to get some useful information from their conversation.

"It's done very well." Li Yusheng's voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of imperceptible pride.

"General, everything was arranged perfectly," another voice replied respectfully. "Luckily, Linkang Prefecture has many of our people. Otherwise, if those careless mouths had confessed, it would have caused a lot of trouble for you, General."

"Haha, even if those lackeys confess, this general has his own countermeasures." Li Yusheng sneered complacently, seeming to be very confident in his own methods.

"But remember, the next action can only succeed, not fail! Otherwise, you know the consequences!" Li Yusheng then changed the subject, his tone became sharp, and revealed a chilling chill.

"Yes, General!" another voice responded quickly, its tone full of fear.

Cen Jiexiao was startled. It seemed that Li Yusheng was plotting something big!

The footsteps of Li Yusheng and the man gradually faded, finally disappearing at the other end of the passage. Cen Jiexiao then signaled Yulan and Xiaozhi to step out from behind the rocks. The faint scent of blood still lingered in the air, reminding them of the thrilling nature of their previous conversation.

"Dean, what should we do now?" Xiaozhi lowered her voice, a hint of anxiety in her tone. Her brows were furrowed, and her face turned slightly pale with worry. "This Li Yusheng seems to have real ambitions. We must hurry back and inform the emperor of this situation."

"No rush." Cen Jiexiao shook her head and calmly analyzed, "We only have one side of the story right now, and we don't have any solid evidence. Even if we go back and tell the Emperor, he might not believe it." She paused, glancing at Yu Lan and Xiao Zhi, and continued, "What's more, Li Yusheng holds a high position of power and is deeply trusted by the Empress Dowager. If we act rashly, we will only alert the enemy and might even bring disaster upon ourselves."

"Are we just going to watch him rebel?" Xiaozhi clenched his fists and said indignantly, "This Li Yusheng is so audacious! He actually dared to betray the emperor and the court. That's a capital crime!"

"Of course we can't just stand by and watch him do whatever he wants." A cold glint flashed in Cen Jiexiao's eyes, and her tone was firm, "We have to find a way to get evidence of his collusion with the Liaodan Kingdom. Then, we'll see what he has to say!"

"The dean is right. We can't alert the enemy." Yu Lan nodded in agreement and calmly analyzed, "They might not come back here for a while. Why don't we take this opportunity to collect some evidence and take it back? Besides, that Li Yusheng thinks he's very smart and won't reveal his true intentions easily. Maybe we can find some clues."

Cen Jiexiao pondered for a moment, replaying the conversation between Li Yusheng and the man in her mind, trying to find some useful clues. Suddenly, her eyes lit up, as if she had thought of something. A confident smile appeared on her lips, and she said, "I think I know what to do!"

She took Yu Lan and Xiao Zhi back the same way and returned to the stone chamber where the account books were piled up.
