Gold Medal Sweetheart
Chapter 9 Your Photo
That evening, after dinner, Tang Xin was alone in her bedroom. Looking at the WeChat message from Guan Yushan on her phone, she felt a dilemma. She had already promised her friend and couldn't back out. But she had never done such a deceptive thing before. Normally, she would draft a white lie several times, fearing it would be exposed.
After a long mental struggle, seeing that it was already past eight o'clock, she finally made up her mind and decided to let it go. She carefully typed the number into the search bar for new friends on WeChat and pressed the enter key.
The screen flashed, and an avatar with the ocean as the background appeared, with the English name KING. Tang Xin remembered that when they met in the afternoon, Guan Yushan said that the other party's surname should be Jin, so this name was probably a homophone. But there was also a suspicion of arrogance - doesn't this word also mean king? Tang Xin shook her head and couldn't help but laugh in her heart. However, his avatar was somewhat similar to Guan Yushan's. Guan Yushan's avatar also had a blue ocean background, but there was a small white sailboat in the blue sea and sky, which felt very peaceful and tranquil; and now the sea of clouds in the phone was rolling, with a few rocks standing on the shore, which was even more majestic.
Tang Xin took a quick screenshot, found Guan Yushan's name, clicked the plus sign, selected the photo, and added the words "couple look" as a teasing comment. Then, she lay on the bed, wiggling one foot, waiting for a reply.
After a while, WeChat notified me of a new message. Yu: “Have you added me?”
: "Not yet. I've been struggling with this for a long time and can't make up my mind (?????)."
YU: "Girl, let me lend you a knife! Go cut the Gordian knot!" Then an expression of a kitchen knife was transmitted.
Tang Xin could only helplessly send a cracked expression: "Ranma shouldn't be the first one to be slashed by the swift sword, it should be me."
YU sent another kneeling expression.
Tang Xin knew she was doomed anyway, so she decided to face the challenge head-on. Then she pressed "Add to Contacts." But when the friend request popped up, she thought twice and decided not to add any additional information. She kept her WeChat name displayed. At least that made her feel a little more comfortable. After all, openly impersonating someone else was a huge psychological barrier. Finally, she quietly checked "Don't let him see" on her Moments status.
Guilty as she waited for a response, Tang Xin's heart tightened as she received several new message notifications. During her school days, even looking at other people's exams would make her palms sweat. Knowing she had a weak mental state, she had never considered cheating. Therefore, whenever she did something out of line, she would first scare herself into submission.
With her heart beating like a drum, she opened WeChat and found that it was just official account notifications and other insignificant messages. Only then did she relax a little bit. In the end, she fell asleep with her phone in her hand.
The next morning, Tang Xin woke up to see that the other party hadn't approved her friend request. She applied again. After a busy day at work, she would be able to forget about it and not dwell on it as anxiously as she had the night before.
At noon, Guan Yushan sent a WeChat message to check on the progress. "Dear, have you added me as a friend?"
There were monthly exams this week, and Tang Xin had spent the entire morning printing exam papers for various grades in the printing room, having temporarily forgotten about it. She only checked her phone when she saw Guan Yushan's WeChat message, but there was still no response from her.
"Not yet." Tang Xinru replied.
"What's going on with the other party? My mom asked me about my progress last night, and I told her I had added her. What if she finds out from the introducer that I haven't added her yet and gives her my WeChat, then she won't have to act at all." He said and sent a tearful emoji.
Tang Xin comforted her, "I think he's probably busy. You said he's a young talent, right? He's not as free as us. He must have meetings or something. Don't worry, I'll try again tonight when I'm free."
Guan Yushan immediately responded with an expression of nodding obediently.
After dinner, Tang Xin leaned against the headboard, hugging her pillow, frowning slightly as she pondered the problem. She searched for her WeChat ID again and typed "Hello, I'm Guan Yushan" in the friend request.
She held her phone in front of her, her chin resting on her right hand, staring intently at it, a mixture of fear and anticipation. She was terrified that the other person would approve her application, leaving her unsure how to respond. She was also hopeful that acceptance would reassure her friend. Two minutes later, her phone buzzed with a new message. She quickly opened it, and the screen popped up: "KING has approved your friend request." Her heartbeat quickened.
But there was no response from the other party. Seeing that it was almost ten o'clock, worried that the other party was resting, in order to make some progress on this matter, she bit the bullet and typed "Hello" and sent it.
After a while, a new message came on WeChat. KING: "Hello."
"Tsk—what?" Tang Xin curled her lips. It turned out he wasn't busy, he was just waiting for her to take the initiative. Yu Shan had made a wise decision not to go on a blind date with him.
"I'm Guan Yushan." Because she was a little dissatisfied with the other party, Tang Xin didn't feel so guilty when introducing herself. "I added you as a friend before, you may not have seen it." Tang Xin said politely.
"I saw it, but I never add people I don't know." The other party answered bluntly.
This sentence actually choked Tang Xin. She thought it was easy to tell from her words that she was just being polite, just trying to find a way out after the other person hadn't accepted her request twice. Any normal person would have taken that as an excuse. This guy was really blunt, completely disregarding her face. It was as if he was deliberately emphasizing that if she didn't tell him her real name, he would never accept her friend request in his lifetime.
Once the dissatisfaction in her heart began to grow, Tang Xin naturally didn't bother to say anything more and replied perfunctorily: "Really?" She was indignant in her heart. If it wasn't for completing the task for Yushan, if my own blind date was like this, I would have deleted you immediately.
The other party didn't respond to this answer. Tang Xin then played with her phone on the bed. After a long while, Tang Xin felt a little sleepy. The other party asked, "Do you have any photos?"
Tang Xin had never shared photos with anyone else. She considered them private. While she did share photos on her Moments, the only people she could add as friends were people she vaguely knew or had met. She would immediately block any unfamiliar friends. Furthermore, she was impersonating someone else, and she felt a sense of uncertainty about sharing photos of herself and not being the real person. She initially considered replying, "I never send photos to people I don't know." But remembering Yu Shan's repeated warnings to get the other person to leave her alone, she didn't want to mess things up, so she replied with something fake, "I haven't taken a solo photo in ages."
"A photo is fine too." It was a concise yet insistent answer.
Tang Xin suddenly sat up in bed, crossed her legs, and thought. This Jin guy was truly persistent. She pouted. Her eyes rolled around. She hadn't meant to deceive anyone, but she had to fulfill Yu Shan's request. Now that they wanted her photo, she'd settle for the next best thing: sending a photo that didn't highlight her. With this thought in mind, she dug her bare feet out of a drawer and flipped open the photo album, the one from two years ago where dozens of students from the department, dressed in their graduation gowns, stood in front of the teaching building for their graduation photo. With a click, she took the photo and pressed send.
Haha, this way I satisfy the other party's needs, don't offend them, and don't count as cheating them. I'm really smart. Tang Xin felt a little proud.
After a while, the photo came back. It was of a boy from the same department, about 1.8 meters tall and with a sturdy build, circled in red. "Is that you?"
Tang Xin couldn't help but hold her forehead. Even a blind person could see that it was a boy. This guy clearly did it on purpose.
"Although I'm from the north, I'm not that tough." Tang Xin tried to control her temper.
"This photo can perfectly confuse genders," the other party analyzed mercilessly.
Tang Xin could sense the other party's dissatisfaction, "Uh - I really can't find any solo photos. The ones I can find are a bit old and have no reference value." Tang Xin politely declined.
"It doesn't matter if it takes a little longer." The other party showed no intention of backing down.
In this tug-of-war, Tang Xin suddenly felt that the other party must be a member of the appearance association, which was why he was so persistent.
Tang Xin flipped through the album page by page, searching for a suitable photo. She didn't want to share recent photos; she was just filling in for a friend; they might not even meet, so she didn't want to leak her own photos. She flipped through the album, finally finding one she thought was suitable, and sent it. Then she lay in bed, waiting for a response. But there was no response. Tang Xin, whose eyelids had been thrashing for a while, finally gave in to her biological clock and fell into a deep sleep.
