Gold Medal Sweetheart
Chapter 7 Small gathering
The hotel was booked, but something unexpected happened that day, delaying Tang Xin's schedule and leaving her no time to buy flowers. In the end, the principal made a big fuss, claiming that she hadn't satisfied Mr. Zhang and criticized him. Tang Xin understood the principal's mood; it was probably because Mr. Zhang had given her a cold shoulder when she proposed expanding the school. And right now, there was no one more suitable to vent the principal's frustrations than her.
But the real reason Mr. Zhang refused to build a new teaching building was that he had long since lost his initial enthusiasm and interest in running this dispensable school. He was looking for an opportunity to sell it so he could focus fully on his core business. So, despite Principal Wang's eloquent descriptions of the school's future after the new building, he seemed unmoved. He simply said, "We need to consider this matter further." This long-awaited meeting ended with Principal Wang's response.
Principal Wang was even more upset with Tang Xin because of this incident. Not only was he not allowed to teach, but his salary was cut in half, already reduced. Her school cafeteria meal card, which had just been topped up with 200 yuan, and her office key also disappeared on the day of the restaurant incident. The key also had the alpaca plush that had accompanied her for many years attached to it. All of this was heartbreaking. It truly lived up to the old saying, "When it rains, it pours."
That day, Tang Xin received a call from her college classmate, Guan Yushan, asking her to meet and chat. Guan Yushan's father was the deputy director of the city's Industry and Commerce Bureau, but she wasn't overly proud of her status, nor did she have a single bit of a spoiled brat. As a result, Tang Xin and Guan Yushan became best friends throughout their college years. After graduation, thanks to her father's connections, she landed a job at the city's top university, managing daily administrative duties—a surprisingly relaxing position.
Seeing her good friend calling to invite her, the bored Tang Xin readily agreed. It seemed that ever since she had that dream, everything was like someone had cast a spell on her, so strange that nothing went well. Perhaps finding a comfortable place to relax and drink a cup of tea, read a book, and chat with friends would make her feel the peace and tranquility of life.
Tang Xin finished work on time that afternoon and rode to McDonald's, where she and Guan Yushan had agreed to meet. Arriving at McDonald's, Tang Xin scanned the crowd and immediately spotted a familiar figure sitting by the window, peering out. Her navy blue trench coat with a white collar perfectly complemented her fair complexion. Her sleek high heels were understated yet full of personality. Her slender legs showcased her alluring figure, and her seaweed-like, dark, shoulder-length curls highlighted the woman's elegance and charm.
Tang Xin walked over and patted her, "Hello, beautiful, are you waiting for someone?"
The girl turned around in surprise, "Wow, is the sun rising from the west, or am I dazzled? You're not late, you're even a minute or two early?!"
"It's rare that I perform so well, can't you please not criticize me?" Tang Xin asked back with pretended anger.
"Hehe, I, Xiao Guan, apologize to you. Please be magnanimous and forgive me." Guan Yushan said as she pushed the drinks that had been ordered in advance in front of Tang Xin.
Tang Xin took a sip of her drink and glanced at Guan Yushan: "I think you are the sun rising from the west. You never surrender so obediently. Instead, you want to crush me to death with your eloquent tongue. What's wrong with you today?" As she said that, she reached out and touched Guan Yushan's forehead seriously.
Guan Yushan pushed Tang Xin's hand away and said, "Haha, stop it. How have you been lately?"
This sentence really touched Tang Xin's heart. It would have been fine if she hadn't mentioned it, but once she did, she burst into tears. "Don't mention it. My luck lately can't be described as just 'bad luck'. It's hard to describe in words." She just wanted to go out and relax with her friends, not wanting to fall into the reality that made her depressed again, so she brushed it off, "Forget it, I don't want to mention it."
"Have you found a suitable boyfriend recently?" Guan Yushan asked with blinking eyes.
"Eh..." Tang Xin saw Guan Yushan's paparazzi-like expression and said with disdain, "Why are you just like my mom, always asking the same questions? You're such a bitch."
Guan Yushan smiled, "I'm just concerned about you." After a pause, she glanced at Tang Xin with concern, "Actually, many boys have had a crush on you over the years, but you've always rejected them. Could it be that you still can't forget him?"
The atmosphere suddenly fell silent. Tang Xin lowered her head, slowly turning the drink cup in her hand, and remained silent for a long while.
Guan Yushan reached out and shook Tang Xin's hand, saying earnestly, "It's been so long, maybe he's already changed his starting line several times. It's time for you to start again."
Tang Xin raised her head and saw her friend's determined eyes. A little warmth surged in her heart, and she smiled with a relaxed look.
At this time, the staff were changing the advertisements on the advertising board of the bus stop outside the window. When the upper part of the advertisement was just revealed, Guan Yushan saw a woman who looked like a plant that had just been wilted by a storm, but was instantly flourishing again under the sunshine. Her face was full of longing, her mouth was slightly open, and her hands were clenched.
Seeing Tang Xin like this, Guan Yushan had no choice but to wave her hand in front of her eyes, "Hey, what's wrong with you? Did you see God?"
Tang Xin didn't even look at Guan Yushan, still gazing out the window affectionately, "It feels better than seeing God."
Guan Yushan followed Tang Xin's gaze and saw that the advertisement was about Tang Xin's favorite foreign band to hold a concert.
"I thought it was something else. It turns out that this group of men saved you from the hands of that man just now."
After the entire poster was put up, Tang Xin was about to nod happily in response to Guan Yushan, but suddenly she froze there like a frost-bitten crop, pointing at the poster pitifully, "The rescue operation failed."
Yu Shan took a look and saw that the highest ticket price was over 3000 yuan, and the lowest was nearly yuan. The two cheaper tiers were definitely hard to come by. As one of the hottest European and American bands, a concert in China would undoubtedly be incredibly popular, if not crowd-pleasing. Tickets would likely be incredibly hard to come by if purchased from ticket resellers, who would undoubtedly command prices even higher than the original price. This was naturally disappointing for Tang Xin, who usually avoided designer brands and was very frugal.
Yu Shan saw through Tang Xin's thoughts, leaned over and said, "Tang Tang, I'll invite you to go!" Her tone was full of sincerity.
Tang Xin looked up in surprise and declined embarrassedly: "Forget it, I don't really want to see it. Let's talk about it later when there is a chance." Although she and Yu Shan are very good friends, she couldn't accept letting others spend so much money because she was reluctant to do so.
"It's not certain that you can buy a ticket. I'll ask Hao Ting to check online when I get back."
Speaking of Hao Ting, Tang Xin finally remembered him and Yu Shan, and hurriedly asked, "How are you two doing? Has your family accepted you two?"
Lu Haoting, Tang Xin, and Guan Yushan were all university classmates. Guan Yushan and Tang Xin were in the Political Science and Law Department, while Lu Haoting was a talented and handsome man in the Computer Science Department. Yushan and Haoting met at a freshman social and joined the same club, becoming a natural match. However, Haoting came from a modest working-class family, a far cry from Yushan, whose father held a high position in government. Furthermore, Yushan had voluntarily given up the opportunity to study abroad for Haoting, much to the displeasure of her parents. Since Yushan told her family about this, they have been met with strong opposition. Even after years of dating, Haoting had never officially met Yushan's parents, acting as her boyfriend.
Guan Yushan was distressed by the mention of this matter. "Alas, there's still no progress. Haoting's boyfriend's job title regularization plan has been put on hold," she said, moving closer to Tang Xin. "Also, my mom keeps trying to sabotage things, trying to shake my morale."
Tang Xin's eyes widened with curiosity as she asked, "What about you? How was your fight with Auntie?"
Guan Yushan sighed and said helplessly, "This is a long-term battle."
"Yushan, I support you spiritually. You and Haoting will definitely be able to achieve a happy ending. Don't worry too much." Tang Xin wished Yushan from the bottom of her heart.
Guan Yushan paused for a few seconds, as if she was making an important decision in her heart. Soon, a sly smile appeared on her cheeks, "Tangtang, in fact, you can not only support me spiritually, but also support me in action!"
Tang Xin sipped her drink while curiously asking, "Action support?"
