Gold Medal Sweetheart

Chapter 37 Late

She hadn't been able to contact Guan Yushan for several days, and Jin Taize hadn't called Tang Xin again. Initially, Tang Xin was uneasy for several days, pondering the reasons. Did this Jin have something to do at work? Or had she upset him by rejecting the call? In the end, she rejected all the reasons one by one. Perhaps he had found a new lover who was like-minded, a more reliable reason related to his personality. Life returned to its usual routine of school, night market, and home. As a result, Jin gradually faded from her memory, and the blind date she had arranged for Yushan ended in vain.

Spring mornings were arriving earlier and earlier. Strands of golden sunlight streamed through the gaps in the undrawn curtains, painting Tang Xin's bedroom with a vibrant hue. The chirping of birds in the branches outside the window evoked the whispers of sweet nothings between lovers. The alarm hadn't rung yet, but the bright light had already roused her from her deep sleep. Damn, last night she'd just casually drawn the curtains, fallen into bed, played with her phone, and fallen asleep. The sunburn had woken her, proving the old saying was true. It truly is true that those who don't plan for the future will have immediate worries.

Although she woke up early, she didn't want to get up yet. She turned over, remembering it was Monday. Last Friday, the school announced that classes would be suspended. This had never happened before, and even as an employee, she couldn't figure out the reason. Furthermore, she was currently serving a mandatory term, mostly running errands for school. She just carried out her duties, not asking why.

She stayed in bed for a while, until her phone alarm started playing music. Tang Xin jumped out of bed. She stepped barefoot on the wooden floor and pulled the curtains on both sides of the window, instantly flooding the room with sunlight. The dog saw its owner get out of bed and fluttered around Tang Xin. She stroked the dog's ears and found it half-closed its eyes, its head resting heavily on Tang Xin's other palm, thoroughly enjoying the massage. After petting for a while, she stood up, stretched, and gazed at the clear blue sky outside. It was a rare sight in northern China without the haze; it looked like the air quality was good today. How could such a spring morning not bring peace of mind?

"It's all over now. Everything will get better, right?" Tang Xin said calmly. Gougou looked at her and wagged his tail happily, as if he agreed with his master's words. The world was immersed in a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere.

The scene half an hour later was...

"Mom, I'm running out of time. I'll just take two slices of bread." Tang Xin scooped a large spoonful of jam onto three slices of toast, smearing it all over them like paint. Then, she closed the bag and tossed it into the plastic bag. Some parts of the toast hadn't been covered with jam, while others had already squeezed out from between the two slices.

"Didn't you get up after the alarm rang today? How come you're still late?" Although Tang's mother knew about her baby daughter's procrastination, she still couldn't understand why. Even if the alarm rang very early, she would always be leisurely at first, but in the end, she would look like she was in a state of panic.

Tang Xin rushed out before she could answer her mother's question. She'd woken up this morning, foolishly thinking everything would be fine. Now she's late again, so it's a wonder it's going to be fine. Why is the gap between ideals and reality so huge?

She got on her bike and quickly rode out of the gate of the community, and started chatting with the two security guards behind her.

Uncle A: "This girl is so energetic every morning."

Uncle B: "Look at how he races against time every day. He must be a child who values time. A child like him will definitely excel at work."

The two uncles looked at Tang Xin's receding figure and were completely lost in thought.

She rushed to school. Since there were no students today, the campus was quiet. After parking the car, Tang Xin headed straight to the office.

She opened the office door, finding it empty, not even the general manager. She sat down to catch her breath, her uneven breathing unsteady. It seemed there weren't any work arrangements yet. So, she pulled a plastic bag from her schoolbag. However, the bag was so full that it had squashed her simple breakfast beyond recognition. The three slices of toast seemed to have been vacuum-packed, drained of all the air, leaving them as thin as paper.

Tang Xin unwrapped the plastic bag and looked at the horrible breakfast. Her appetite instantly dwindled. She had no choice but to eat it. Just as she took a bite, her phone buzzed twice. She opened WeChat and saw An Qi's profile picture at the top. She tapped it. The angel went crazy: "Tang Tang, why haven't you come yet? There's a general meeting in the conference room, and you're the only one missing."

I hadn't heard about the meeting, so why the surprise attack? If she was the only one not to go, wouldn't she be looked down upon by Principal Wang again? So, better act quickly. Knowing Principal Wang's usual style of holding meetings, he would never adjourn before two hours. To save her stomach, she didn't forget to take a few more bites of bread.

Tang Xin trotted out of the office, but not far away before turning back and grabbing a notebook. Without a single piece of paper, she didn't look like an ambitious employee. She had to put on an act.

She ran to the conference room and cautiously pushed open the tightly closed back door, attempting to sneak in as inconspicuously as possible without being detected by Principal Wang. Tang Xin tiptoed down the hallway behind the conference room, like a mouse encountering a cat. Unfortunately, Principal Wang was seated at the podium. Thus, the little errand boy, Tang, was unfortunately called out by the head of the school in front of all the other students.

"Some teachers are very unconscious. They are always late and waste everyone's precious time during general meetings." Principal Wang said in a cold tone.

So, the conference room froze at this moment.

Wang Xiao's sidelong glance gleamed with two cold, blade-like glints. Du Meijiao, sitting in the front row, fidgeted with her slender, jade-like fingers, a cold, cold smile playing at the corner of her mouth, like a victorious concubine in a historical drama. All the colleagues' eyes were fixed on Teacher Tang, who had appeared in the back. Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Tang Xin, who had intended to slip in, could only stand there, clutching her notebook, unable to advance or retreat.

Fortunately, An Qi resolved the impasse in time and waved to Tang Xin, indicating that the empty seat next to her was reserved for her. Tang Xin, as if she had found a lifeline, lowered her head and quickly walked towards the fourth row from the back.
