First-rank palace maid Su Jixiang

Chapter 515 Why Bother?

Princess Anle was originally thinking about how to steer the conversation toward this matter, but little did she know that the Eldest Princess had already keenly noticed it.

"How did Mother find out?" Princess Anle was surprised. The Princess's residence basically had no communication with the outside world now, otherwise she would not have asked Chen Jianian to find out the news.

“Your brother just returned from outside, and you come to see me.” The princess lowered her eyes to look at the carpet at her feet and said slowly, “You come here and say that your father has gone too far. I guess this is probably what’s going on.” She sneered, “Although I am under house arrest and do not know what is happening outside, I do know what is happening inside the Princess’s residence.”

"Then what does Mother want?" Princess Anle looked at her mother with some unease.

The eldest princess is too calm now.

If it were someone with her temper from before, she would probably be making a huge scene and becoming hysterical now.

But the current princess seems completely unaware of this matter; her aura remains unchanged.

"Could you take a letter to the palace for me?" After a moment of silence, the princess finally pulled a letter from under her pillow on her bed.

Princess Anle accepted the letter with both hands. There were no words on the envelope, only the mark of the Princess's Mansion branded on the seal.

"You will enter the palace later under the pretext of visiting the Empress." The eldest princess looked at her daughter. "The Empress may not necessarily see you, and it doesn't matter. Your main purpose in entering the palace is not to see her, but to deliver a letter. You can hand this letter to Qingyu, the head nanny of the Imperial Wardrobe."

Whisper! Princess Anle silently repeated the name in her heart several times.

"Is my daughter going to the Imperial Wardrobe?" Princess Anle couldn't help but ask.

"Hmm." The eldest princess nodded. "There are still a few bolts of Shu brocade in the manor. Take them to the palace. If the Empress is willing to see you, give her two bolts under the pretext of making clothes. Just go to the Imperial Wardrobe." She then took out a key and handed it to Princess Anle. "This is the key to the storeroom. Take some people to open it and go in to get it."

"Yes." Princess Anle felt relieved instantly. Originally, she just wanted to ask why she had been sent to the Imperial Wardrobe for no reason.

It would be different if you brought Shu brocade.

"Go quickly." The eldest princess gave Princess Anle a deep look, then lowered her eyes again.

Princess Anle gripped the key tightly in her hand, bowed, and turned to leave.

She didn't dare to delay and went directly to the storeroom to get a few bolts of Shu brocade as instructed by the princess before entering the palace.

As expected, the Empress found an excuse not to see her and told her to go back early.

Princess Anle simply took the cloth directly to the Imperial Wardrobe.

Princess Anle was a frequent visitor to the palace. She often brought fine fabrics to the Imperial Wardrobe to have new clothes made by the palace servants. Therefore, her actions were not unusual, and even if the Empress knew, she would not say anything.

The Imperial Wardrobe is very busy these days, rushing to make various clothes for the Empress Dowager's birthday. The clothes of the concubines in the palace are basically made by the Imperial Wardrobe.

Upon seeing Princess Anle arrive with bolts of cloth, several head maids from the Imperial Wardrobe came out to greet her.

These were the same people who usually received Princess Anle when she came over, so she remembered them. However, she didn't usually bother to remember the names of these servants, so even though they looked familiar, she didn't know their names.

“I had a handkerchief last time that was embroidered by one of your women named Qingyu,” Princess Anle said softly after sitting down.

"Yes, it's me." Qingyu stepped forward, bowed, and said, "Is there something wrong?"

"The embroidery is quite good." Princess Anle looked at Qingyu and said, "You may all leave. She will stay and take my measurements for a dress."

The others exchanged glances, then bowed and left, leaving only whispers behind.

Seeing that everyone had left, Princess Anle took out the letter the Princess had given her. "Your name is Qingyu?" she asked again.

"Yes. This servant is Qingyu." Qingyu curtsied and said. "Is it the Princess who is looking for this servant?"

Hearing her insightful words, Princess Anle had no further suspicion and handed the letter to Qingyu, saying, "This is what my mother asked me to give you. You can decide how to proceed!"

"Yes, this servant understands. Please rest assured, Your Highness." Qingyu curtsied again and took the letter.

Upon receiving the letter, Anle, having nothing else to do, measured his body, left the Shu brocade behind, and departed with his men.

Although she didn't understand why her mother wanted to deliver this letter to Whisper, she did as her mother asked.

Not long after Su Jixiang returned to the Zhenbei Marquis's residence, Miaoshou Pavilion sent someone to bring the unconscious Qian Feng over.

It was delivered personally by Zhou Ziqi.

Qian Feng was carrying items marked with the Black Tiger Guard, so it was not advisable for him to stay in the Miaoshou Pavilion for long. Therefore, after Zhou Ziqi treated him, he personally delivered him to the Zhenbei Marquis's residence.

"How did you deal with Chen Xinghe's guards' interrogation?" Su Jixiang asked curiously as he had someone arrange a room for Qian Feng.

“I only said that he was carrying the plague and I was afraid that it would infect the entire Miaoshou Pavilion, so I temporarily left him outside for treatment.” Zhou Ziqi spread his hands. “As soon as they heard that Qian Feng had the plague, they immediately let me take him out.”

What a convenient excuse… Su Jixiang couldn’t help but chuckle.

"Is he alright now?" Su Jixiang asked as everyone settled the unconscious Qian Feng into the newly arranged guest room.

"My external injuries weren't fully healed before I started traveling, which caused the wounds to become infected and I had a fever. On top of that, I was in a bad mood and mentally exhausted, which is why I ended up like this. It was just a coincidence that I was able to run into Madam and bring her to my place. If it had been delayed for another two days, I'm afraid she would have died!" Zhou Ziqi sighed.

"That serious?" Su Jixiang was surprised. "I thought Lord Qian was in very good health."

"Luckily he has a good constitution, otherwise no one could withstand such a ordeal!" Zhou Ziqi said. "His entire back is festering, and I've emptied several basins of pus and blood! Fortunately, we still have penicillin, so we gave him an injection, but his fever hasn't subsided yet, so we'll just let him rest for now."

Su Jixiang then realized how serious Qian Feng's illness was. No wonder she noticed he had lost almost half his weight! He really was dying!

"Why bother?" she murmured.

If something were to happen on the road, Zhao Xiuwan would not know, and even if she did, she probably wouldn't feel any guilt.

If she had even the slightest reluctance to part with Qian Feng, why would she have come to the capital with Nangong Rui?

Su Jixiang couldn't help but sigh.
